Android :: Security Lock Application / Enabling Code For Power On
Jan 24, 2010
Seems to me that Lock 2.0 is the best Screen Lock I've found. Only Issue is, even with the security code enabled, all one has to do is power on/off the phone and your in with no need for the code. What I am looking for is a locking app that doesn't get disabled when powering the phone off/on. Looking for something secure much like every BB has where no matter what you do, to proceed into the phone you need to type in the Lock Code.

I am looking for an application that will allow me to lock out certain applications and features. For example, its common that someone wants to tinker with my phone because they have never seen it. I don't want the messing around in my messaging center, gmail, etc. But the general phone lock is not enough. I want to specify certain apps and functions that will require password or gesture. I found "ES Security manager - application protector" in the market. It worked okay for a day, now its buggy. When I go to a locked app and put in my password. Now it goes to the protector settings instead of the application. Also, it can easily be killed from a task manager app. I need a good solid app that will do this for me.

I need to enable a MenuItem when a previous screen (Activity) returns. I tried this code:
...
((MenuItem)findViewById(R.id.menu_how)).setEnabled(true);
...
but a null pointer exception is launched. BTW, the menu_how is set to false in xml; and the code is part of onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) call.

Under the 2.1 SDK, is there a way to test for the phone's OS version within the app, and to enable or disable features based on this OS version? In other words, I'd like to do the moral equivalent of this...
if (os_level < 1.6) {// code goes here}

What are the codes in framework that affects rotation? Basically, the problem I face here is, even after enabling in Settings>Display>Rotation>0 degree and 90 degree, the display does not go to landscape even after I rotate my phone.
I am running Android 4.1.1

I am plan B and AVG security installed, both don't always work, I have pattern lock on the phone but even in pattern lock mode when i press and hold power button the phone gives me option to shutdown.
If someone steals my phone they will be able to shut it off without unlocking it since holding down power button still works. So is there a way to lock the power button from shutting off phone when the phone is in pattern unlock mode?

I am doing a security Lock system for my project. I am interested to know how to disable the HOME key or handle it at framework layer, in order to prevent user to by pass the security lock by pressing Home. I know that I am not able to do it at android application layer, so thinking to get some tips in handling it in framework layer.

I have used PreferenceActivity to have preference in my android application. I want one preference say "pref 2" to be enabled when other preference say "pref 1" is not checked and "pref 2" to be disabled when "pref 1" is checked. i.e. exactly opposite of the android: dependency attribute. How can I do that?

I have a very hard time with the slide to answer feature. It frequently takes me 3-5 tries to answer a call. I would much rather be able to touch to answer. I do realize that there's a slim chance of answering calls while in my pocket, but I'd rather that then fight with the phone. Does anyone know of an application for this? I've searched various forums and there are no current threads regarding this.

I just noticed yesterday accidentally that you can press and hold the search button on the lock screen and perform anything Google Voice Actions is capable of. I am using a Droid 2 unrooted. This may affect the Droid X as well. This is a huge security flaw in Motorola's modified pattern/PIN lock screen. Hopefully this thread garnishes enough attention so that this can be patched soon! Steps to reproduce:
1. Lock your screen
2. Press and hold the search button "magnifying glass"
3. Speak any voice action and the phone will respond. Note: you will not get any visual or audible cues (in Google Voice Actions) that it is working, but it is!

If the Evo is in my pocket I cannot get the phone out without the slid bar moving on the touch screen and ending call, I tried an email to HTC and they had no answer. I tried the dot code thing in security but that did not work for answering the phone. So does this happen with your HTC EVO ?
I would love the iphone style swipe entry to the phone, Also the battery sucks and the 4G burns out the battery in 2 hours. I have the app killer thing. So I can not answer a phone call with the phone in my pocket.I love this phone and I left an iphone after 3 years and would not go back. Any tips for the evo and my macbook pro or contacts on to my phone etc.?

My phone is a maguro (Galaxy Nexus GSM), bootloader unlocked , ClockworkMod Recovery and Cyanogenmod11.
I found online several method to delete the code/pattern security.
Some methods use USB debugging (I have a Tasker script that disables it at every boot).
I also found a clever and powerful tool that really scares me. There is a zip that deletes the Gesture.key and Password.key file. Are there other methods from which I should protect my phone and my data?

I know that I can go into Settings and set the Security Lock to turn on after a number of minutes but then I have to wait for that many minutes. I'd like the ability to automatically turn the Security Lock screen on on-demand. Anyone know of a way to do this?

All of a sudden my security lock feature stopped working. I've rebooted several times and the lock screen pops up initially after reboot, but then I do not see it again. I can lock the screen and it goes black, but if I hit lock/home key again it goes straight to home screen.

I'm seeing so many people complaining about the new lock screen that it seems that many Droid owners aren't using a pattern lock to secure their phone. This really surprises me, the phone contains access to all your email, contacts, calendar, and any other personal data you may have placed on it, and a large percentage of you aren't even using the basic security provided by the pattern lock? Or is it that many people don't know the pattern lock exists? I just can't imagine having a phone like this that isn't secured to whatever extent is available.

why my Brand New Samsung Galaxy S3 is switching screens from whatever screen I am currently on to the Security and Lock Screen?
It seems it may be APP related because when I KILL my apps with the Advanced Task Killer it doesn't happen as often.
ALL the Apps are the same Apps that were on my previous phone (Samsung Captivate) which never did this. There are no NEW Apps on this phone.
Software is current and up to date as it was downloaded within 5min after un-packaging the phone.

On my previous phone it had a "full lock" feature on it that when a text message or phone call came in it would show all stars on the screen and require my password before you could answer the call or view the text message does the hero have that option or is there an app I can download?
I tried the pattern lock thing it has but if a call comes through or a text message comes through it still allows you to answer and/or view the message without entering the lock pattern..

I have a pattern unlock on my Samsung Galaxy S 19000. If I want to lock my screen manually I simply press the power button briefly which works fine. I now use a skin on my phone which doesn't allow for easy access to this power button so I'm wondering if there's an app that I can use to lock my phone screen without having to press the power button. I have looked at "lock 2.0", however, it seems to be more for actually unlocking the screen.

I want to learn that how google android market provides security of application. That is, I realize that, when user downloads application, market downloads and install application atomically to phone. I am designing market and security is important issue so I wonder that how google achieve this?
How is application installed phone?
1) Is the apk downloaded sdcard and deleted after installation? In the case of this how can market guarantee that when apk downloaded to sdcard, program finishes unexpectedly and installation- deletion of apk cannot be done?
2) Or installation is done from server?
3) I think that there exists security not to copy apk. how do they do this?
Maybe they use phone id to install application, by this way even if anyone copy apk they cannot install it other phone?

I'm building an Android application that needs to communicate with a MySQL database. The application isn't meant to be published, and I want the application to be the only thing allowed to interface with the web service I'll create for DB access.
I've been thinking how I can secure the system, and this is the idea I've come up with. I'd appreciate any feedback or other ideas. Surely there is a method built into Android that I am unaware of.
My thought is to give the web service a GUID. Each time a call is made to one of it's public methods, the web service matches its GUID with the GUID given to it by the Android application. If the GUIDs do not match, the web service refuses access. In short, my system has a 128-bit password.

Found using these two apps from the market allows me to hardly ever have to use the power button (only for power off/on situations). Which is great because I know there has been reported issues of the button sinking in.
Screen Off: $0.99
No Lock: free
