Android :: Scale A Background Image Of A TextView For Droid?

Aug 13, 2010

I'm battling with extending a TextView for my Android app. I'd like to create "bubbles" to display text messages in a conversation, similar to the native iPhone SMS conversations.

Is there a way to implement the resizing of a background image without just stretching it? I'd like to have a single background image that keeps it's corners but get stretched only in defined areas. I think this should be possible because I've seen it in a SMS app, but I wonder how to implement that.

Android :: Setup A Background Png On View And Anchor It To Top Not Scale In Droid?

Aug 24, 2009

I have an image, say 16px from our designer. I want to Set it as the background image on a view, but the view is larger than the image. So I want to anchor the image at the top of the view, and then have the view fill in the bottom with a solid color.

Is this possible in the current version of android, 1.5_r3?

Here is what I have so far, but the image is scaling to take up the entire view, and I am not sure how to set the image as background and specify a solid color at the same time. I suspect I need to wrap the view in a containing view which has the color specified, is that the best way to do it? code...

Android : Way To Scale / Resize Text To Fit A TextView?

Apr 7, 2010

I'm trying to create a method for resizing multi-line text in a TextView such that it fits within the bounds (both the X and Y dimensions) of the TextView. At present, I have something, but all it does is resize the text such that just the first letter/character of the text fills the dimensions of the TextView (i.e. only the first letter is viewable, and it's huge). I need it to fit all the lines of the text within the bounds of the TextView.

Android :: Way To Scale Drawable Passed To TextView.setCompoundDrawables

Oct 6, 2010

Is there a way to scale the Drawable passed to TextView.setCompoundDrawables ? The following code works very well but of course is set to the full intrinsic size of the drawable. This code is used with the Holder pattern in a ListView where the purpose is to update the drawable without two more Views (LinearLayout and ImageView) to accomplish the same thing. code...

I suppose I can use Drawable.setBounds() and preserve the original aspect ratio with a small function but just wondering if there this a more direct way to do this with the api?

Android :: Pre Scale Background Example / Speeding Up Web Views

Apr 28, 2010

I've created a custom ViewGroup (based off of the Launcher) that allows paging scrolls between some WebViews. Problem is that it doesn't scroll as smoothly as I want it to. I've been following Romain Guy's 2008 advice, but I don't see any massive improvements. Is it because I am using WebViews, or am I just doing the prescaling wrong? This is my code:

Bitmap originalImage = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.redbg);
originalImage = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap( originalImage, // bitmap to resize ((WindowManager)
getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE)).getDefaultDisplay().getWidth(),
// new width ((WindowManager)getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE))
.getDefaultDisplay().getHeight(), // new height true); // bilinear filtering
getWindow().setBackgroundDrawable(new BitmapDrawable(originalImage));
called from onCreate. Is the right?

Android :: How To Scale An Image In ImageView To Keep Aspect Ratio?

Mar 26, 2010

In android, I defined an ImageView's layoutWidth to be 'fill_parent' (which takes up the full width of the phone). My question is if the Image i put to ImageView is bigger than the layoutWidth, android will scale it, right? But what about the height? when android scale it, will it keeps the aspect ratio? What I find out is, there is some 'white space' at the top/bottom of the ImageView when android scales an image which is bigger than the ImageView. Is that true? If yes, how can I eliminate that white spaces?

Android : How To Add A Background Image To Droid Activity

Oct 12, 2010

My goal is to develop a GUI application on top of a background image with buttons in specific places on the image. The first step is to display the background.

The image can be displayed with resources and is described in several FAQs including this one:

how-to-add-background-image-to-activity

It compiles and runs without errors, but the background is black. Here is the main.xml file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/rootRL" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="@drawable/background">
</RelativeLayout>

The image has been in png, 9.png, and jpg format with basenames of 'main' and 'background'. It builds but does not display. Making clean and recompiling does not help.

This behavior occurs on both the emulator and on hardware -- an Atmel AT91SAM9M10-G45-EK. The SDK version is 2.0.1.

General :: Droid 4 Background Image Always Enlarged

Jan 28, 2013

I had the HTC Desire Z, so, I think it's not related to Droid 4, but it's Android specific.

However, whenever I try to set a background image, this one is always enlarged, coming out the edges, no matter what its size is, while I expect it to fit the display, even deformed, just as when I set a desktop image on my PC. That's what happened for example with my old Nokia N82: the image was scaled to fit the display.

I even tried to set an image of the exact resolution of the display (540 x 960), but it was always enlarged. So, is actually there a way to put a background image so that if fits the display and is not enlarged?
