Android : Takes Drawable Object - Scale Image - Save Memory?

Aug 23, 2010

I need to know how he takes drawable object. I'm collecting some ImageView objects in array, they have background images that are rather big in resolution so they take lot of memory...

I have read somewhere that it will automatically create image with resolution that my imageView have, so i think it will take less memory than first one. Please tell me, if i set scaleType property, will it scale that image? Will that help me to save memory?

Android :: Way To Scale Drawable Passed To TextView.setCompoundDrawables

Oct 6, 2010

Is there a way to scale the Drawable passed to TextView.setCompoundDrawables ? The following code works very well but of course is set to the full intrinsic size of the drawable. This code is used with the Holder pattern in a ListView where the purpose is to update the drawable without two more Views (LinearLayout and ImageView) to accomplish the same thing. code...

I suppose I can use Drawable.setBounds() and preserve the original aspect ratio with a small function but just wondering if there this a more direct way to do this with the api?

Android :: Can't Load Drawable Object / Want To Know Cause Of It

Oct 15, 2009

There are several custom-made graphic objects (.png files) included in the project inside res/drawable map.

All elements are normally loaded and displayed in the user interface except two icons and so far haven't figured out what causes the problem.

The code which doesn't affect the user interface as it should is...

In both cases there is only ic_volume_small displayed on the screen and the Variables window in the IDE displays the following:

R.drawable.ic_volume_small = Class not
loaded : net.client.android.R$drawable
R.drawable.ic_volume_of_small = Class
not loaded :
net.client.android.R$drawable

The method (member of IconImage class) which should change the icon image is the following code...
Does anyone know what could cause the described problem?

Android :: Drawable Object Where I Can Store Points For Faster Paint?

Aug 21, 2010

I'm designing a custom view which is an X/Y Plot. It's a moving graph that scrolls to the left with time and new Y values are continuously coming in at 10 per second.

I've been able to make it work with an array of integers where the array index is the X value and the integer value is the Y value, but this seems horribly inefficient (Because every time it comes time to re-paint, I have to loop 800+ times to paint the graph). Then we do it all again 10 times a second. yuck.

Can anybody think of a paintable object that I can draw points to and perform some kind of scroll transformation and then just draw the new points each time, rather than the whole canvas?

Any other ideas out there?

Android : Layout - Map Consists Of A Drawable Object Which Represents A Room

Jun 12, 2010

I need to create a map with items on it (the map consists of a drawable object, which represents a room) and I thought about using buttons with background images for the items so that they are clickable.

I guess the AbsoluteLayout fits here the best, but unfortunately it's deprecated. What layout would you recommend me for this kind of application ? Is there another layout which supports X/Y coordinates ?

Android :: How To Scale An Image In ImageView To Keep Aspect Ratio?

Mar 26, 2010

In android, I defined an ImageView's layoutWidth to be 'fill_parent' (which takes up the full width of the phone). My question is if the Image i put to ImageView is bigger than the layoutWidth, android will scale it, right? But what about the height? when android scale it, will it keeps the aspect ratio? What I find out is, there is some 'white space' at the top/bottom of the ImageView when android scales an image which is bigger than the ImageView. Is that true? If yes, how can I eliminate that white spaces?

Android :: Scale A Background Image Of A TextView For Droid?

Aug 13, 2010

I'm battling with extending a TextView for my Android app. I'd like to create "bubbles" to display text messages in a conversation, similar to the native iPhone SMS conversations.

Is there a way to implement the resizing of a background image without just stretching it? I'd like to have a single background image that keeps it's corners but get stretched only in defined areas. I think this should be possible because I've seen it in a SMS app, but I wonder how to implement that.

Android :: Portrait And Landscape Layouts - Drawable Image

Nov 15, 2009

I have an app that I started in 1.6. It used images that were specific to portrait and landscape layouts. I put these in the corresponding drawable folders, for example:

drawable/image01,png
drawable-land/image01.png

when I created a new project with 2.0 it gave me the following folders. drawable drawable-hdpi drawable-mdpi drawable-lpdi. when I look at the documentation around these folders it all seems very straight forward. I assumed that you were able to create the following folders. drawable-hdpi-land drawable-mdpi-land drawable-lpdi-land

and everything would work as before. The image directory would swap automagically pulling the appropriately laid out image depending on your screen orientation. Unfortunately it does not. The SDK seems to get confused, and if I clean the project, the folders come up as poorly named.
