I want to download an image (of unknown size, but which is always roughly square) and display it so that it fills the screen horizontally, and stretches vertically to maintain the aspect ratio of the image, on any screen size. Here is my (non-working) code. It stretches the image horizontally, but not vertically, so it is squashed. Code...

I'm trying to create on of these images, but Eclipse won't accept it once I've used the draw9patch tool. I've found other people having the same problem, and saw this comment: I discovered later that the problem I was having was caused by the image not being exactly true to the nine-patch spec as defined in the documentation. Once I fixed the image to have a clean (i.e., no gradients etc) one pixel border it was fine. "'m not much good when it comes to image design. What does this mean, how do I create my original png file to meet the specification for Nine Patch?

So Im trying to add an imageview to my current xml design - and its working decently. Now my main problem is that I cant seem to find a way to set the attributes for the image like where it needs to be displayed etc.
RelativeLayout mRelativeLayout = (RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.board);
ImageView i = new ImageView(this);
i.setImageResource(R.drawable.blue_1);
i.setAdjustViewBounds(true);
mRelativeLayout.addView(i);
setContentView(mRelativeLayout);
i tried messing around with setlayoutparams but got absolutely no clue what to do with it.

I am trying to use a nine patch image as a background in an android game. The image expands well in multiple resolutions but, my game has slowed down by 10 fps. I used to get a consistent 45 to 50 fps now I get 35 fps. The question is when we use a nine patch as a drawable and set it as a background in a view does it have any performance implications as opposed to a plain bitmap drawing.

On a layout I want to scale the background image (keeping its aspect ratio) to the space allocated when the page gets created. I am using layout.setBackgroundDrawable() and am using a BitmapDrawable to setGravity for clipping and filling, but don't see any option for scaling.

i have list views with image views and text views etc in them, and i'm trying to fix up a situation where the background image of a list element changes in the "pressed" state. if there's a straightforward way of doing that, please let me know! right now, i override onTouchEvent() in the topmost view, and also in those child views who don't just delegate to their parents which would be image views. i have to check for long clicks myself, but basically this scheme works. the list views are potentially different sizes depending on how much text is in the views etc, so i thought i would use a 9-patch as the background. however, when the background changes from flat white to the 9-patch, this seems to indent the view a bit - ie give it margins. eh? if i change the image to a non-9-patch, the margins remain as they are. i've tried different sizes of 9-patch, from 320x150 or so down to 100x30 etc, no change. what's going on?

In android, I defined an ImageView's layoutWidth to be 'fill_parent' (which takes up the full width of the phone). My question is if the Image i put to ImageView is bigger than the layoutWidth, android will scale it, right? But what about the height? when android scale it, will it keeps the aspect ratio? What I find out is, there is some 'white space' at the top/bottom of the ImageView when android scales an image which is bigger than the ImageView. Is that true? If yes, how can I eliminate that white spaces?

I'm battling with extending a TextView for my Android app. I'd like to create "bubbles" to display text messages in a conversation, similar to the native iPhone SMS conversations.
Is there a way to implement the resizing of a background image without just stretching it? I'd like to have a single background image that keeps it's corners but get stretched only in defined areas. I think this should be possible because I've seen it in a SMS app, but I wonder how to implement that.

I have an activity which uses android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog". The activity contains an ImageView which can show images of different dimensions. The ImageView should scale the Image so that it entirely fits into the window, at least on axes fits entirely and maintains the original aspect ratio. The size of the dialog should only be as large as the ImageView (plus its border width).
I tried the following but the dialog window always uses the whole available space:

I need to know how he takes drawable object. I'm collecting some ImageView objects in array, they have background images that are rather big in resolution so they take lot of memory...
I have read somewhere that it will automatically create image with resolution that my imageView have, so i think it will take less memory than first one. Please tell me, if i set scaleType property, will it scale that image? Will that help me to save memory?

I've had an app on the market for over a year. Recently customers have been reporting a crash; all customers have been running Android 2.1 or 2.2 (note sure if the crash is limited to those platforms tho; interesting that this does work on the simulator but not physical devices. Maybe devices renamed the component name of the image gallery?). The crash occurs when I attempt to lauch the Image Gallery app.
Is there a preferred method to launching the Image Gallery?
I use the following code.

How to fix this or a new method to launch the Image Gallery?

I've searched and couldn't come up with an answer. I currently have a Droid Eris so I'm running 1.5. Is it possible to add an image to an email signature? (I've already edited my signature I would just like to add a logo) If it is not possible in 1.5, is it possible in newer version of Android? (2.0?)

I'm writing an application for Android. I need to make some image processing on the picture taken from camera.I use Camera.PictureCallback to get the photo, and I get picture in byte array.The problem is I want to make operations on every pixel of photo (some filtering and other stuff) so I guess, have photo in byte array is not a bad idea. But I don't know how interpret information in this byte array... The only way I know to make the processing is use BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray() and then use Bitmap object. Is this a good way to handle a lot of image processing?

I've got a Droid with Touchdown, which works perfectly except for one issue. Any picture/image that comes through in emails in Touchdown gets saved into the Gallery, making it very large and hard to open. I have figured out where to delete these images, but it is sort of a pain to have to go in and delete them out every couple of days. Is there some sort of setting that I am missing in Touchdown to prevent this?

I'm developing an app for Android 2.1 upwards. I want to enable my users to select a profile picture within my app (I'm not using the contacts framework). The ideal solution would be to fire an intent that enables the user to select an image from the gallery, but if an appropriate image is not available then use the camera to take a picture (or vice-versa i.e. allow user to take picture but if they know they already have a suitable image already, let them drop into the gallery and pick said image). Currently I can do one or the other but not both.
If I go directly into camera mode using MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE then there is no option to drop into the gallery. If I go directly to the gallery using Intent.ACTION_PICK then I can pick an image but if I click the camera button (in top right hand corner of gallery) then a new camera intent is fired. So, any picture that is taken is not returned directly to my application. (Sure you can press the back button to drop back into the gallery and select image from there but this is an extra unnecessary step and is not at all intuitive). So is there a way to combine both or am I going to have to offer a menu to do one or the other from within my application? Seems like it would be a common use case, surely I'm missing something?

On the G1 camera app, there's a handsome looking camera button which you can press to signal the app to take the picture. It's a round button with a little camera icon in it. Is that button resource available in android.R? I'd like to use it in my own app if possible?

Does anyone know how to set a picture as your wallpaper without cropping the image to fit all 7 screens on the evo. Basically I had a wallpaper app called "shake them up" which allowed me to set any of my pictures as the wallpaper without cropping them. After the latest update the app is making me crop like the phone does.
