I found some informations about size of icons on developers' guide. But on 480x800 resolution, i couldn't find any information about that.
Is there any formats or recomanded size of icons on 480x800

If you compare a Tattoo (2.8" 240x320) with a Hero (3.2" 320x480) and a Desire/Evo 4G (3.7"/4.3" 480x800), on all of these Sense UI devies you will see a 4x4 icon grid. Looking at screenshots I can see they could definitely fit 6x4 (6 being vertically) in, if not, at least a 5x4 icon grid. 4x4 on a 4.3" screen makes the icons too spread apart! Why haven't HTC made their home screens with 6x4 icon grids? Also, a 320x480 can fit nicely on a 3.2" screen, and if you multiply 320 by 1.5 and 480 by 1.5 you get the 480x800 resolution that is on the Desire on a screen 0.5" larger. So if you go 0.5" larger than that (or 0.6" larger tbe) and multiply 480 by 1.5 and 800 by 1.5, you could easily get a 4.3" screen that nicely produces 720x1200. Why haven't they used this resolution?

Want to know if Android works on smaller screens. Do I need to write any display drivers to support the smaller screens? Does physical size really matter?

I have noticed that there's a new high-res icon field in the market console. Does anyone know what that's for? I have tested this new field, and I can tell for sure that it was ignored when rendering the android market icon. Maybe that it will get used after a market upgrade... Furthermore, I have had problems with the market icon. After various tests, I have realized that it is always the mdpi icon, scaled to some random size (51px, etc..), even if there's a hdpi icon, and whatever device I used. But I see some icons which seem to be pixel-sharp. Is this just an illusion or is there a trick?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI read that 960x854 should be the right resolution. I did with Gimp an image with that size, copied it to the sd card and set it as wallpaper. What a wonderful surprise when the android tried to crop it. So, I guess, 960x854 is not the right resolution. any insight?

Most of my contact photos come from Facebook, but some I will edit on my PC and load onto the phone's SD card. I know there are issues with decent photos becoming low-res pixelated, so I'm wondering if I start with the best size and/or aspect ratio, maybe the phone won't have to resample the photos itself.

how to differentiate the 480X800 and 480X854 screens. we have an option to put the one image at the hdpi folder.in my case 480X800 image is does not support for the 480X854 image. it shows a blank space at the bottom.Any Idea?
Edit: i set the image as a background. on my layout i have transparent image views with margins. if i click the image view it do some task. but between these two screens. i can adjust the value for one. in another one the image was strectched slightly. then what can i do? can you understand my problem?
I was playing around with a friends original Moto Droid and due to the smaller screen size the icons are smaller and it makes the UI look cleaner. Is there any way to make the icons on the EVO smaller to "get more" space out of the screen?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous launchers and have found it difficult to find any launchers that allow you to go above 72x72 resolution for icons. The only one that would was Go Launcher EX and that simply scaled them up to a barely noticeable 82x82.
Is there a launcher which allows you to load icons that are say 100x100 and that does not scale them?
I have a program that should work on Android 1.5, but when it's run on newer devices with higher resolution screens, it should support the full resolution and not emulate a lower resolution screen. As far as I can tell from the documentation, this should be simple.

The problem is that if I tell Eclipse to compile for 1.5, it refuses to accept this. It reports an error (targetSdkVersion is an unknown tag) and refuses to compile or run. If I tell it to compile for 1.6 it works fine, of course. But if I then try to install on a 1.5 AVD, the program immediately crashes with a java.lang.VerifyError. I'm clearly missing something simple. How do I get it to compile an apk that works under 1.5, but still includes the targetSdkVersion tag?
I am having real issues reading anything. The icons are really small for as large as the screen is as well as some text thought the phone. Every phone I have ever owned had at least a small,large,larger even the yucky Storm I got out of I could pick larger text (point size). Anyone know if this was left out or how to fix?
