Android :: How To Fix Market Download Failed?
Mar 10, 2010
Since a couple of days I get the error "download has failed" when I download an app from the market. Doesn't matter using 2g, 3G or wifi. I've searched this forum and found some similar threads with possible solutions, but nothing seems to work.

Up Until two days ago the market app worked fine then for no apparent reason now only goes as far as starting download and goes no further. I have enen tried a factory reset losing everything but it still wont download anything. This is the same over wifi or 3g. Any one got any ideas? Does yours still work?

Is anyone else experiencing problems? I'm on a HTC Desire running 2.2 stock Froyo. The only modification I've made is to manually force apps to the SD card. Since Market 2.12 was released I can download but not install anything. I can't update either, it'll download but then immediately bring up an Installation Failed notification.
I have been advised to clear the Market cache and to uninstall the new update but by the time I reload the Market after uninstalling the update, I'm back on 2.12 as it updates automatically.
Has anyone else experiencing similar problems?
Any idea if there's a fix or do I have to wait for Google to sort it out?
Is there anywhere I can report this to Google?

I want to be able to download and install my app from my website, but when i do this at the moment i get the error:-
Download unsuccessful - Cannot Download. The content is not supported on the phone.
After looking into this it became apparent that the PHP Magic, that handles the downloads from the website, recognises the file as a .zip file rather then a .apk file and sends the it a .zip, that the phone does not recognise.
Does anyone know a way to get PHP Magic to recognise the file as an apk so that file extension does not get changed and the phone can recognise it?

I installed an app yesterday, (appbrain web downloader) but couldn't get appbrain app to download, so I uninstalled the appbrain web app. Today I tried to update a couple apps, and niether would update- either I got a message that said download paused, with no way to re start, our it would just show it as downloading, but not making any progress. I tried to install another app off the market, just to see, and out wouldn't install either....
Tried-
Clearing market updater
Rebooting phone
Removing battery and re starting phone
going to titanium backup and wiping market data

Failed downloads report "Download unsuccessful" in the Notification area. I think this should be changed to "Download failed", because the words unsuccessful and successful look a little bit too similar at a glance.

This problem first started after installing Lock bot, ATK and Alevel. Rebooted my phone and was greeted with an X in my signal bar and all home apps and google/android apps FC. I tried to reboot and pull battery even though the battery pull from my understanding has no effect. I've seen other threads say to do a hard reset but I didn't have a back up of my phone. I uninstall the 3 apps listed and the phone booted up fine. The next day I downloaded lock bot and level whith a reboot after each and no problems. I went back to tk because i like the 1x4 task bar it has and all was well.(No i'm not blaming ATK because too many people use it successfully) Yesterday I downloaded Safe neighborhood(My creepy neighbor looks out his window and watches the kids way too much), OS Monitor after uninstalling TK, and the Swype app I found on a thread here. As soon as I rebooted I received that X again. Uninstalled the last three apps and O.K.. I have re-installed OS Monitor and swype and phone reboots fine. I didn't download safe neighborhood again because my neighbor may be a perv but now I know he's not a convicted perv. The thing I'm noticing now is that when trying to use the market the downloads take several minutes to load or don't load at all.

Hi. My Android market does the following strange thing. One application (Titanium backup) has appearantly failed an update, because when I open market, this application is always on top under downloads saying "Installing". I've powered down the phone, but to no avail, no matter what, this application is "locked" in a state of Installing - which means I can't uninstall and re-install, and I can't update, because Market will not let me do anything else with this application than displaying "Installing" and nothing else happens.
Can I get out this application lock on Market, or do I have to wait for the next firmware update? I Use SE X10.

i've got a droid razr maxx running jb 4.1.2. at one point i had maxed out the storage space on both the SD card and the ~8gb of internal phone memory, so as i went to make a download i got a little error up top that said the download failed due to insufficient memory. i took care of the problem and completed the download, but ever since then that little !-in-triangle status has been up top on my status bar, always popping up atop the list of alerts that come up when i pull the top menu down. clicking on it sends me to my downloads page, so i've sorted out all of the filenames even remotely similar to that one and deleted them from the downloads page....
i can power off the phone, reboot it.... no matter what that status informing me that the download failed due to insufficient memory won't go away.....

Everytime I try to download an app, it just stays on the "starting download" screen with the flowing bar. Nothing happens! Sometimes it says unable to download or something similar. I've updated to 2.2 on T-Mobile and dont remember ever having this problem before. It's really frustrating.
I currently cannot download anything, either via wi-fi or Mobile network.

Last night I tried to download some apps from the Android Market. It doesn't seem to want to let me have anything any more. It'll bring up the progress bar and says "Starting download..." below it, but never gets any further than that. I've tried clearing the cache already with no luck.

I know Google is quite diligent when it comes to Data Warehousing. Beyond the simple 'Active Installs' and 'Total installs' I am sure they have a whole treasure chest of useful information like active versions, Android Release version, hardware, and uninstall reasons (based on the prompt users see while uninstalling) It sure would be nice if we could see (even a portion of) this somehow. Example - Out of 524 ppl to install version 0.5.4 80% uninstalled saying "Does not function", while only 12% of those on version 0.5.5 uninstalled. Wow Sure points to a bug in that version(0.5.4), how useful or at least it would be if we could see this stuff. If you think this would be useful, please star this issue; Share Market Statistics - http://code.google.com /p/android/issues/detail?id=4376 I know of 1 other ticket, but it is more focused on comments not quite on target; User Feedback - http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2150
