For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.

Don't get me wrong, I think its great what they are doing by integrating search with all the "smartphone features", along with trying to bust up the Mirosoft entrenchment, but it seems like they can potentially have access to too much personal info. I know much, if not all of Google access can be turned off, but if you want to use the phone to its fullest, everything you do can be stored/monitored on a Google server.
- If you want to transfer contacts from a non Android phone, list has to go to Google for conversion (Exchange excluded).they know who you associate with.
- Turn on GPS, use for application and search assistance.they know where you are.
- Create custom maps and use Nav they know your habits and where you're going.
- Calendar they know when you're going to go.
- Use search/browse history to aid Google in helping you find what you're looking for they know what you like.
- GDocs, stored online they know what you're working on.
- "Backup my settings".they know how you use your phone, and copies of personal files store on the phone (full flash of phone and SD card, still got wallpaper back then some?).
- You want a decent POP3 mail app, "have" to use Gmail they have all your personal email.
I understand that being able to get free "stuff", there has to be some sort of give/take, but working in IT and being the cynic that I am, I can't help but think that this phone was rolled out more for Google's benefit than ours (read, Data Mining). But I'm more concerned about a security breach given that so much personal info is stored in one spot.

On the Droid Eris, My contacts are all good with their profile pictures and their status updates are doing fine. The only thing is that my personal picture is my old profile picture on Facebook and it won't update.
Is there any way to change your own profile picture so I don't have to look at an old picture all the time?

I bought an Eris which I love, but will probably take it back within the 30 days to get an Incredible. Just wondering what's the best way to clear all my info & downloaded apps off the phone so it's back to the way it came in the box?

Is there a good program to backup your all your apps, files, shortcuts, bookmarks and personal settings. I know Astro has a "backup" function but I don't know what it actually backs up. I know you can back up your contacts Google.
I guess what I'm asking is if there's a way to "clone" your Droid, not just the SD card.

Last week I switched from att and the iphone to verizon and an HTC Eris. loving the phone and android. However being new i did not research too much and saw the HTC incredible is the latest and greatest. Yes it will cost me more for the phone but maybe I shoulda sprung for it. After all I will be stuck with it for the better part of 2 years. Is there that much of a difference in the 2.I am aware of the 8.0 camera and the faster processor. don't mind spending the extra $$ if its worth it.

Has anybody used the program "Personal Assistant" by Pageonce for Android or any other phone? It seems like a useful little app, but I am hesitant to provide it with any of my account (especially bank account) information without first knowing if others have used the program and deemed it safe and secure. I haven't really been able to find any testimonials online save for a few forum responses that seem to be written by one of the program's creators, which obviously doesn't make me feel much better. If anybody has used it and can confirm that my information will be safe, please let me know.

I am based in Germany and publish the "Last Call Widget" on the Android Market.I have been steady improving it over time, but one group of users still complain about it not working on their devices. My widget listens for the "android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE" intent, and then sets an alarm to update the last call UI in 20 seconds, then 60 seconds, then 5 minutes, 1 hour, etc. This works reliably on all my test devices, even with aggressive task killers (try it yourself). Unfortunately I have a cluster of users with Motorola Droids on the Verizon network who complain that the UI does not automatically update. I believe Verizon is a CDMA network (we have GSM here in Europe), though the Android API docs don't specify any implementation differences. This could also be a driver issue on the Motorola Droid (we have GSM Motorola Milestones in Europe).

This summer i would like to purchase my first smartphone. I'm out of contract with Verizon so switching carriers is a possibility (not att) I did all the research I could handle and I came to two conclusions or possibilities. Jump ships to sprint for the HTC Evo (I like the mobile hotspot feature, the hdmi feature, and eventually the possibility to stream netflix).Wait for Verizon to release the Droid 2 or Shadow that would have similar specs, (I'd like to have a physical keyboard though with droid 2)Is sprint's cheap plans and bang for your buck really as enticing as it sounds or will i regret leaving verizon's coverage?? I live in rural Kansas btw, everybody here has Verizon. I don't know anybody with Sprint.

I am a fan of T-Mobile. I like the ability to pop out my SIM card, and pop it in the next phone of choice, bringing everything with me. This is especially handy due to the fact that I work on a naval base tha does not permit cameraphones of any kind. I like T-Mobile's customer service. They are always polite and know what the hell they are talking about. I'm pondering getting a Galaxy S for T-Mobile.On the other hand, Verizon's new Droid X looks amazing. I love that 4.3" screen. (had the HTC HD2 with the 4.3". Loved it) I would mention the processor and other features, but it seems these two phones, minus the physical keyboard I don't care about, are close to par.Verizon, I must begrudgingly say, also have better coverage where I live. This Droid almost looks appealing emough to stay with Verizon and upgrade. So, do I get the phone I'll probably like more, or get an almost as nice phone with the ability to remove my SIM and have a crappy phone at least at work. ( keep in mind that I have access to a landline at all times at work, anyway.)

Currently I use the desktop app quicken to track all my expenses. More and more I'm relying on my android phone to do my daily tasks. I have been searching and reading for weeks now trying to find an app that suits my needs and so far I haven't come up with what I need. Many come close but so far none can provide all three of my requirements. So, does any one of you l33t android users know of an app that can meet these three requirements?
(1) Must be stand alone - If it can sync with a desktop app like quicken for example, that's great but it shouldn't rely on that to function.
(2) Supports downloading bank data directly - My bank (USAA) supports just about every connection method. Every app I have tried for every phone that has this feature has been able to connect to USAA and retrieve my transactions without issue. Downloading to a file and importing manually is not an option.
(3) Must support recurring / scheduled transactions - I want to be able to plug in my monthly recurring bills and have some way of viewing my future balance as the bills hit. Quicken does this with a bar graph and a calender. Either one would work. The biggie (Mint.com) is great but doesn't support the third requirement even though hundreds of people have posted, asking for this feature (guess no one is listening or acting on it). Quicken doesn't have a mobile app. Splash money doesn't have an Android version. Ascendo Money doesn't have an android version. Seems like everything I have found is 2 out of 3.. I don't see how my list of 3 is asking that much?

Does anyone have a bead on a well-performing, well-design app that I can store personal data/info with in a secure fashion? Specifically, I want to store information such as my kid's Kaiser ID numbers, doctor's names, etc... but it has to be secure. Poking around in the Market hasn't really turned up any great options for me so I thought I'd turn to the community for suggestions.

I am constantly amazed at how many posts are made and how quickly they are responded to. So, a little personal question. . .
Who are you?
I assume that most of us here are adults who work a job that allows them to buy an expensive phone (or two or three) with expensive data plans, so are you all at work slacking off and following the threads?
I must admit I am guilty of that occasionally as I linger around here.

I'm due for an upgrade. I currently have the env 3. I plan to use the phone for apps and the internet mostly. I don't make many phone calls (less than 20-30 min/day) and don't expect to use it a ton. i would like for it to have a great battery life and probably an actual keyboard (but not a necessity). what would be the best model? is there a model coming out soon i should consider? i saw the droid pro, would this be a good choice (like the keyboard, but it has a smaller screen)

I'm getting a user error report that my app thinks their DROID handset isn't connected to 3G, and after getting a logfile from him I think I've narrowed it down to the return value from NetworkInfo.getSubtype (). The code in question is the following, based on Jeff Sharkey's I/O 2009 talk "Coding for Battery Life" (see Slide 10 at http://dl.google.com/io/2009/pres/W_0300_CodingforLife-BatteryLifeTha...)My strong suspicion is the check against TelephonyManager.NETWORK_TYPE_UMTS, that either Verizon or DROID is returning a different value for its 3G network. My guess is either NETWORK_TYPE_EVDO_0 or NETWORK_TYPE_EVDO_A, but I'd like to have more than a guess here. Anyone have direct knowledge, or a better position to guess from? I know Jeff often monitors this group. Jeff, any suggestions, given this was your code to start with? Code...

Whenever I see an app that requires the use of this information, 9/10 times I do not download it. I see a lot of games on the marketplace that require this information and I just don't see the point in a game where I toss paper into a trash can needing to know my location at the time I am using the app. Do any of the rest of you see any red flags that turn you off of certain apps despite how cool they may seem?

My company is going to be switching to Gmail for work. I will thus have a work and personal Gmail account. On Android, will I be able to run two instances of the Gmail app, one for work and one for personal?
I don't want to run one through the standard mail program because I don't want to lose the gmail features like Conversations.

I have 2 gmail accounts. Unfortunately, one of them is for my calendar and contacts and the other is for my personal e-mail. As of now, my cal and contacts are syncing fine but I do not use the e-mail account that is associated with thier username. I have my other account (personal e-mail) set up sepeartely....along with a few other e-mail accounts(work and etc.). I would like to know if i can leave my cal and contacts setup on the regular droid sync account but change the e-mail account to my personal acct. so it will "push" by default with out having it in a seperate palce on the droid. I know this is confusing but i dont know how else to explian it.

Yesterday my Verizon Motorola droid was automatically updated from Android 2.1 to 2.2. I was informed that it had been done via text message. I was not consulted or warned, only informed after the fact. It does not cause any problem in my app. I used the getSDcardPath (syntax approx) rather than hard-coding /sdcard/data..... and I have not found any other conflicts.
How are Android updates handled on devices? Always done automatically, this instance of auto update was unusual, or what?
If it is always done automatically then we MUST incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible just to keep our apps running on machines that they were designed to run on. (it is difficult to anticipate all future changes!)
Previous to this automatic update, I was thinking that we should incorporate all accommodations for future changes that are not backwards compatible so the app would run on future Android versions. (this option does not require knowledge of the future.)
