I bought an Eris which I love, but will probably take it back within the 30 days to get an Incredible. Just wondering what's the best way to clear all my info & downloaded apps off the phone so it's back to the way it came in the box?

Hi There! I'm new here although I've been lurking for a while. Great info here! So my phone has been super slow, lagging, kicking me out of the internet, no calls when people say they call etc. I talked to Verizon and they want me to do a hard reset. Is this necessary?? It scares me to possibly lose all my stuff. So if I need to do this then what do I need to make sure is backed up??
Would love some help with this b/c my phone is really starting to frustrate me. My husband was in the store yesterday, sent me a txt and when he got back in the car asked me why I didn't respond. By the time I got his text, wrote back and it finally sent he was back in the car! So yeah lagging is such a great thing!
I'm looking for an app that is protected where I can store personal stuff such as credit card and bank info. I know there are several out there in the market but I can't seem to find them.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been wondering over the last few days since getting an Android phone and trying to configure it to make it at least as productive as my previous smartphone. How secure is the information in a world where we put a large amount of personal info behind google-id and password? This id and pwd is plugged into the phone for functionality. We browse the Android Market for necessary apps provided by complete strangers and click Install. We click OK when caution is raised, with unknowing consequences and taking complete responsibility for the installation. Am I justified in being paranoid with Android model of doing things?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am on stock motorblur 2.1. Just yesterday the phone started lagging hard. I took the battery out, it wouldn't turn on and would freeze at the M logo. Found out that now it will only boot up if I pop the battery out, put it back in, wait 10 minutes then hit power. My Settings physical key stopped responding period today. and I cant do a hard reset because in order to do that it restarts the phone and it freezes at the M logo. I tried to hit HOME and POWER when turning on but it wont even enter that service menu. It still lags like hell when I get it to even boot. No physical damage or anything. been working for weeks now perfectly.

I am a huge Android Forums newbie, but I really needed help with backing up my phone information before hard resetting. Basically, the primary email that the phone is running under is an email for a company I no longer work for so I don't have a valid email there. Because I can't log into my work email, I can't log in and download any new application so unless you guys know of a different solution, I guess my only option is to hard reset and then make a new primary account. However, I would like to save all my contacts and texts messages [if possible, although I hear it's unlikely], but since I can't download any new applications, I also can't download any storage applications for my phone.
View 6 Replies View RelatedDon't get me wrong, I think its great what they are doing by integrating search with all the "smartphone features", along with trying to bust up the Mirosoft entrenchment, but it seems like they can potentially have access to too much personal info. I know much, if not all of Google access can be turned off, but if you want to use the phone to its fullest, everything you do can be stored/monitored on a Google server.
- If you want to transfer contacts from a non Android phone, list has to go to Google for conversion (Exchange excluded).they know who you associate with.
- Turn on GPS, use for application and search assistance.they know where you are.
- Create custom maps and use Nav they know your habits and where you're going.
- Calendar they know when you're going to go.
- Use search/browse history to aid Google in helping you find what you're looking for they know what you like.
- GDocs, stored online they know what you're working on.
- "Backup my settings".they know how you use your phone, and copies of personal files store on the phone (full flash of phone and SD card, still got wallpaper back then some?).
- You want a decent POP3 mail app, "have" to use Gmail they have all your personal email.
I understand that being able to get free "stuff", there has to be some sort of give/take, but working in IT and being the cynic that I am, I can't help but think that this phone was rolled out more for Google's benefit than ours (read, Data Mining).But I'm more concerned about a security breach given that so much personal info is stored in one spot.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I woke up to my phone play a ringtone over and over. I couldnt stop the ringtone and it wasnt from an alarm. It was sitting at home screen just playing this ringtone over and over. So I turned the phone off and went back to sleep. When I turned the phone back on after I awoke it hard reset itself and made me start anew. No apps i downloaded, no ringtones or wallpapers except those on my SD card. Luckily I used backup assistant to get my contacts back but wtf?
Has this happened to anyone else? The only app Ive downloaded recently is ourgroceries which I linked with my wife. the phone doesn't change settings, only needed Internet access and something else trivial. I am very very careful with apps I download.
Again, anyone had this issue? Any reason why this happened?
Whenever I see an app that requires the use of this information, 9/10 times I do not download it. I see a lot of games on the marketplace that require this information and I just don't see the point in a game where I toss paper into a trash can needing to know my location at the time I am using the app. Do any of the rest of you see any red flags that turn you off of certain apps despite how cool they may seem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was having a bunch of issues with crashes, lag, bluetooth, and 100% awake time. And now they're gone. The only thing is - I don't know why. And my past experience with the hero is that issues you think are dealt with, sneak back in when you least expect it. I was experiencing issues even after I wiped my phone, then installed the official Sprint Rom (replacing the leak). Then I hard shut the phone down and was going to hard reset it again. But first, I swapped batteries. Then did a hard reset. Does anyone know if taking the battery out could have had any effect at all? I don't want to start an old wives tale about the phone if there's really no technical reason this should have done anything.
Whatever the case, I've re-installed all the apps I was using before. I've run every single program I could to see if there were any that would crash - and so far nothing has. I had WiFi and mobile network turned out, my bluetooth connected and was using Google Maps without any problems. I have yet to experience the landscape keyboard lag that everyone else is talking about. The phone can still be a bit sluggish here and there - it seems especially when I have my bluetooth headset connected, the phone can take a couple of seconds to make a call when I push on an picture in the "people" widget. But honestly - that seems to be the only complaint I have and I've been pushing the phone really hard trying to replicate old problems or find new ones.
Yesterday I was downloading an app from app store (my phone is LG Optimus L9) and suddenly it just displayed a window with only one choice "Restore phone". I didn't do anything for it to show up, it showed up all by itself. I tried press home or back button, I even tried locking the phone, but it didn't work. So I restarted the phone, it took 30 minutes for it to boot and it showed the same problem with the error "com.android.phone process stopped working". After finding on the forums I decided to hard reset the phone, but when I do, this appears on screen. Is my phone long gone or can I still restore it and use it somehow?

How can she make a "hard" reset of the phone? We cannot really find anything in the Internet about that subject, only one website that mentioned, that we have to
- Turn off phone
- Press "power-button" and "volume-up"
at the same time.But still everything is in Chinese

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was looking at the phone info, found by dialing *#*#4636#*#* one button in this is "Turn off radio".I'm interested to know if this could be used to work around the current inability to do airplane mode and enable wifi at the same time on the Eris. Could you use this option to turn off the radio, disable mobile network, and then enable wifi?Has anyone seen if this works, and if turning the radio on and off is as easy as finding this button? I'm a bit afraid to try it myself right now.

I just did a hard rest and now when the phone turns on, it just sits at a black home screen. The only thing i can do it hold down search and search the web, seems like from deleting some widgets it messed things up. Any way i can install a new from or something like that?

Droid came back up fine after the reset, I activated it and signed in again on my primary Gmail account, added other email accounts, and reinstalled my Apps from the Download section of Marketplace. The only thing that didn't come back is my Contacts...Calendar sync'd to the Droid just fine, but Contacts wont. Tried rebooting the phone, turning contacts sync off and on again, and the sync icon shows for a few seconds next to the "Sync Contacts" checkbox, but none of the contacts sync to the phone. My contacts sync'd to the phone just fine before the reset they are the contacts in my phone's primary Gmail account.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLong time Droid user, brand new to the Fascinate Forum. I just bought my wife a Samsung Fascinate and I have to say the thing is absolutely phenomenal! It makes my Motorola Droid look like a 1990's flip phone!! Except for one problem the darned thing has been automatically spontaneously performing a factory reset / hard reset on itself.And it is happening at completely random times. You're sitting there playing a game, you're reading your e-mail or you just pushed the screen ON / power button to wake the phone up and unlock it and then, all of a sudden The phone reboots to the black and white Samsung startup screen, then recovery pops up and yellow writing appears that says "Formatting FOTA:", "Formatting DATA:", "Formatting CACHE:". Then the phone reboots again and comes up like you just pulled it out of the box; a full factory reset / hard reset. The contents of the SD card are thankfully fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to turn on some sort of logging so that maybe I can figure out what causes it? This is now the second phone that this is happening to. We took the first phone back to Verizon the very same day we got it and they swapped it out right there for another brand new one. The second phone behaved perfectly for three whole days before it went and wiped itself. We thought for sure that the problem was with the first phone, but now it is happening with the second phone.I am going to start from scratch again, adding one app at a time making sure the thing continues to work. I have all of those apps and more on my Motorola Droid (also connected to the same Exchange Server) and my device is behaving just fine.I'm trying to think of reasons this might happen and I'm drawing a complete blank.
So I did a factory reset and all of my downloaded applications were still there. I thought it clears all of your downloaded apps and it was supposed to clear all of my settings. Such as display and sound settings which it also didn't do. Is this the way its supposed to work or not.
