Android :: Run Both Gmail Personal & Business On Phone?
Oct 29, 2009
My company is going to be switching to Gmail for work. I will thus have a work and personal Gmail account. On Android, will I be able to run two instances of the Gmail app, one for work and one for personal?
I don't want to run one through the standard mail program because I don't want to lose the gmail features like Conversations.

I have a new HTC Incredible on order.
One of the big reasons that I am switching phones was because my Windows Mobile calendar messed up the times (shifted things an hour off) and totally messed up my entire calendar. I cannot afford to have any calendar issues, so I need a ROCK SOLID calendar that is stable, syncs well, integrates well, allows for recurring inputs, and has nice month, week, and daily views.
Most threads about calendar apps were started several months ago, so I was wondering what the latest developments and updates to these apps and widgets might have done to your evaluation of them. Personally, I would love to get in on the public beta of PI when it is finally announced. I have used Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion on my Windows Mobile devices before. I have never used CalenGoo, but something like that would be wonderful, too.
What is the latest and greatest you have found regarding the DINC and:
Jorte App vs Calendar Pad Pro App vs iRT Calendar App vs Gemini App vs Hubkap Mobile App
and
aniAgenda Widget vs Pure Calendar Grid Widget vs Pure Calendar Agenda Widget vs Androidlet Calendar Widget.

I'm looking to see if I can get any good advice on a replacement phone for my work. The droid is my personal phone and I am up for a new device for my business phone. I have Verizon for my business phone as well and we are on a corporate plan. So the carrier has to be big V. I would try an android phone (other than the droid...I don't want two of them ) but I don't know how well android integrates with the Windows server for syncing contacts, calendar, outlook, etc. Any suggestions on phones currently out or coming out in the next month or two? Can have a physical keyboard or a decent touchscreen keyboard. I don't care as long as it works better than my HTC Touch did. Once I got my Droid. The resistive screen just didn't work for me anymore.

Why does SPRINT continue to publish EVO ads?
The phones great features and the clever way SPRINT introduced EVO to the US market have resulted in tremendous demand for the phone.
The EVO remains sold out at stores throughout the United States. There are long wait lists.
Yet SPRINT keeps advertising EVO with full page ads in major printed media and frequent TV spots.
Is there a business or other benefit of doing so?

I am a longtime iPhone user and I have recently been given a Samsung Galaxy S3 by my employer. In the past I have just used my old Android phone for Tethering with FoxFi so I can have web access at work on my laptop. I literally never made any phone calls with it for over 2 years. I have had the calls forwarded from my Verizon Android phone to my ATT iPhone since the day I got it.
Currently I have a (PERSONAL) iPhone 4 on AT&T with a 3G connection and I have this (WORK CELL) Samsung Galaxy 3 on Verizon 4G LTE.
I would like the ability to fully test out the S3 and leave the iPhone at home if I so choose. Call forwarding either way is not a problem at all. I can forward my iPhone personal calls to my work cell and I can forward my work cell calls to my iPhone (Currently this is how I have it). Call forwarding works great but I am looking for a way to handle text messages in a similar manner.
I would like to have the ability to send and receive text messages using my personal number from my Android Phone. I have Google Voice installed on both phones but I cant seem to get it to work at all or I am not setting it up correctly. I would not mind having texts show up on both devices or in my Gmail inbox. There has to be a way to do this. That way if I leave either phone at home it not a big deal I don't have to carry two phones. Nobody ever texts my work number, my only texts received are to my personal cell.

I have been wondering over the last few days since getting an Android phone and trying to configure it to make it at least as productive as my previous smartphone. How secure is the information in a world where we put a large amount of personal info behind google-id and password? This id and pwd is plugged into the phone for functionality. We browse the Android Market for necessary apps provided by complete strangers and click Install. We click OK when caution is raised, with unknowing consequences and taking complete responsibility for the installation. Am I justified in being paranoid with Android model of doing things?
Please read the thread "ActiveSync for Android, Moment?" to understand better why I raise this question.

I've got a Sprint Hero and when I try to send a 1MB photo, it basically freezes up my Gmail on my smartphone. Is that normal? I've tried to do it a few times, but it just says "sending" for longer than 10 minutes. It even sort of crashes my phone by hogging all the data and not letting me surf the internet or sync with Remember the Milk and other data reliant apps.I hate this Sprint Hero, by the way (unrooted, running OS 2.1). It's a genuine POS.It's so laggy (takes literally 10 F'n seconds to call someone after I dial the number).I've honestly almost smashed it on the ground twice it's so laggy. When I'm in a hurry, I can't stand it's lagginess. It's amazing to me this phone was released to the public with such an egregious lag time on almost everything I do (most noticeably the phone, which is simple compared to other apps).

Considering (heavily!) the Evo but the boss just asked me how well it handles things like pdf's and .doc's and such. We're coming over from blackberries and I'm having trouble finding anything definitive about whether the Evo (or android in general) can handle those things natively. I see that there are apps that do it but come with mixed reviews. Just wondering what your experiences and/or expectations are.

im not an expert on how push email works, but my understanding is that gmail messages should appear on my phone without me having to refresh or manually sync the gmail app. for a reason unknown to me, sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt. at night, i shut down wifi and the mobile network to conserve battery and start up the mobile network when i leave for work in the morning. i get notification of new yahoo email, thru the htc widget, almost instantaneously, yet gmail doesnt come thru until i manually sync the gmail app. then during the course of the day, sometimes gmail messages get pushed right thru and other times not at all until i manually sync the app. meanwhile my yahoo mail comes thru flawlessly.
considering gmail is supposed to push and the htc widget does not, this is the opposite of what i expect. as far as settings, i have auto sync enabled for both the device and for the gmail app. while i always assume user error until proven otherwise, in this instance i think i have all the correct settings, which makes sense considering sometimes gmail does get pushed. its just erratic and unpredictable. anybody got any ideas what's going on here?

why my S4 is deleting all my contacts from it. I have my contacts synced with my gmail contacts and this has been the case for years. I had a Samsung Infuse before this and have never had a problem. I've had the S4 for about 3 weeks now and this hasn't happened until yesterday. And since yesterday it has happened 3x's. At first I thought it was a Trulia app (realestate app) that I was using to try to call some realtors. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but the first 2 times I was on the app and my contacts disappeared. How I recovered them was through the contacts recovery feature on Gmail. I would be SOL if I were out and needed to call someone on my contacts list immediately and without access to my laptop.

New to android..been using WM 6.1 sync with outlook obviously seemless. Need the same type of functionality but it doesn't have to be with outlook. Looking for options to use for business. Being a small company I can go anyway I want, don't have any restrictions other than need to sync all with phone, laptop and desktop. Beginning to travel more so contact, calendar and task must sync (notes and a Today front end would be nice). I have tried Dejaoffice but I end up with 2 sets of contacts and calendars (Samsung and Dejaoffice) not to mention that the UI is lame (had just as good 15 years ago with Instant Recall). Don't mind rooting the phone if needed. So what options exist in the open source world? Love my captivate phone but need to be able to do business to keep it. Anxious to hear how the rest of the Android world does it.

I noticed last night that the messages on Gmail on my phone weren't matching that of online, evening after forcing another sync. It's basically missing one conversation of (12) emails.I then checked using a desktop client and also installed K-9 on the phone and they both matched what was on Gmail online complete with the missing conversation. However, Gmail on my phone is missing the whole conversation, but has everything else. Any idea's why it'll just miss this one conversation? When I complete a search in Gmail on the phone for content from the conversation, it finds it, but it's just not in my Inbox?

Just wondered if anybody here has fully committed their business (or works for a company that has) to the Premium Edition of Google Apps. If so can you give me any feedback on any real world issues that it has. Specifically I'm wondering how well it integrates with MS Office products. For example I receive a lot of Excel documents with embedded photos and .pdf files and will need to access and amend them. Similarly most of my customers use Excel and will need to be able to open a spreadsheet created by me in the Google system? Also can I migrate existing documents into Apps? I know these are fairly basic requirements and I would be surprised if Google haven't covered them, but are there any other issues that I need to consider before committing to the Gcloud?

just posting something I found out about last night while at the mall. seems that malls have been doing poorly during the holidays due to a large company who's first letter start W and ends in fart er I mean mart. even poor Santa who has to listen to the spoiled next generation while they relieve themselves on his pant leg had to pay daily rent to be in the mall. when I asked a few people about their kiosk rent, you know the little hut in the middle of the hallway, they said that the rent went from 1200/month to 4500 for the month of December. it's not a typo So maybe they gift we give this year could be a gift to ourselves by avoiding the 500+lbs wal****T women, screaming kids cranked out on octobers candy, and self checkout systems that freak when you put down your item too hard [COMPUTER VOICE] "[REMOVE ITEM FROM BAGGING AREA OR SECURITY WILL BE ACTIVATED]" [ CUE: Arnold Schwarzenegger from terminator] lets go to those malls and the $4,500 kiosk. don't forget to drink a 44oz and sit on Santas lap I would like some cheese with my whine sir.

I travel on the road a lot for work, and traveling expenses are probably my largest tax write-off. Yet, I've been unable to find a nice app in the marketplace that allows me to simply input my starting odometer and my ending odometer when I get home, and arrive at a simple calculation as to how many miles I traveled on that particular trip and what my approximate tax write-off would be.
On the Iphone, I used to use an app called "MileBug". It was great. Sadly I haven't been able to find anything that compares to that app in android. Do any of you know of a good app for such a purpose? I'm not interested in the plethora of apps available to monitor my gas mileage or my MPG. I just want a simple application that allows me to quickly record my miles traveled per trip.
