Android : App Autokiller Does Work Without Rooting Phone?
Jul 7, 2010
Does someone know if the app autokiller does work without rooting the phone? On the internet site the developer says I need to root the phone. But I am wondering if it's useful also for people with a non rooted phone.

So its pretty simple. Do you use autokiller? Does it seem to boost the performance of your phone? Chime in, good, bad, or indifferent.

I am trying to maximize the battery life of my phone. I keep coming across an app refereed to as AUTOKILLER?
Just what is this app, and what are the benefits? If I am running SetCPU, do I need to run both? Do I need Advanced Task Killer too?
(FYI, I am running Cyanogen Tazz 1.0, and besided not having the trackball light up, I am loving it. I just want to get optimized battery life)

I currently have a PC, Vista and I am looking to switch to a MAC possibly. My dilemma is I root all my phones and tablets, which would steer me away from a MAC if they weren't compatible.
Use MAC full time to root? Is it very different than a PC? & Would you recommend it even over a PC if you use a MAC?

I used to be a big IOS jailbreaker. I had been doing it for 4 years, before taking up android just a couple months ago. (and i must say, android is MUCH better). Anyway i know that basically during the jailbreaking process, the software uses an exploit on bootup and injects codes during the signature check on every level to make the idevice think that what it is running is legit, unmodified apple software. Hence why tethered jailbreaks need the original program to bypass iboot, because an exploit has not been found deep enough in the system to work in iboot aswell.
So how does rooting compare? Dont be afraid to explain using big words and in detail.

Simple thread with a simple question(s). What are the recommended settings for autokiller for the Incredible? Does it even really help if you're using froyo and have access to all 512mb of ram?
Edit: Well, I just found an answer to the second question. I didn't realize the "free" memory is immediately used up by cache. More free memory = larger cache. So, that said, I would still like to know what the "recommended settings" would be.

I've been fiddling around with my Hero for a while and tried a few different things including Autokiller which is an alright program but didn't provide much noticeable difference to the performance of my phone. I've just been fiddling around with overclocking aswell. The reason I decided to try overclocking was because I bought Snesoid and the games were really laggy even with the sound disabled, even on more basic games like super Mario. I've tried overclocking to roughly 650, the 690 then 710 with not a lot of difference when using snesoid and with the phone in general tbh. I'm wondering if it's something else causing the phone to be laggy even after trying numerous things, could it be sense?
I've got systempanel lite aswell and it mainly shows these as the active apps:
HTC Sense 23.2M
Messages - 8.2M
People - 10.6M
Swype 11.6M
And these as Inactive (Cached) Apps:
My Uploads - 7.9M
Settings - 8.1M
Anyone got any ideas why it's still a bit laggy and very laggy with snesoid, I'm running VillainRom12 aswell btw.

Running a rooted Evo (obviously) with OMJ 3.8. I have Sense running with Itching Thumb(which I love).
For about a month or so I have been using Autokiller Memory Optimizer which has improved me phone's performance (I determined this in a sisde by side comparison with my wife's unrooted evo. I know this is not a perfect test, but as OMJ uses a stock kernel it's close enough, IMHO)
Since I have been running Itching Thumb I have notices when switching apps Sense will occasionally get killed. I can only assume this is because of Autokiller.
When I looked on Autokiller Sense had an oom of 8, which with a memory use of 9mb and change makes it a candidate for being killed, I would assume. The oom for sense seems to bounce around a bit, it's usually 8, but I have seen 4 and 1 also.
This is a mild annoyance, waiting for Sense to restart, but if I could avoid it I'd like to. I've thought of a few possible fixes I would prefer not to do, which include:
Uninstalling Itching Thumb
Lowering the free memory threshhold on Autokiller
Temporarily lowering Sense's oom in Autokiller
What can I do to keep Sense from being killed? (I considered a bulletproof vest, but they didn't have one that fit) Can I lower it's oom? Any ideas? Or should I just suck it up and accept it and a byproduct of my tinkering?

I'm searching for android phones that can use video out to the tv for a research project. I'm considering the HTC Touch Pro.
Is there anything I have to do specifically to get the video out to work (for displaying my app on the tv)? or will the phone just display a running app on the tv without extra work?

How does one use Autokiller correctly? I want to make sure I'm optimizing my system to get even more battery than I am. Typically I pull over 24 hours on a charge. Want to see if I can get over two days. Thanks in advance Nitsuj17 and Saps =P

I notice that Spare Parts came with a Task Management option. I was wondering if anyone has seen a conflict between using Spare Parts and AutoKiller which seems to have the same job except with more features?

That's what I want to know. If yes - awesome, if no - who can we "request" to root that thing?!? If maybe - what are the risks I'm running into? How can I aver those risks? Backup? System Restore? What are my options.

I'm a Linux user, so the idea of rooting the phone is one of the many reasons I picked up this phone. However, I've been reading the forums and searching around, and have yet to find anything about rooting *from* Linux. Ubuntu and Fedora find the Hero beautifully; I've had better response mounting this than some portable hds I own. But has anyone successfully tried rooting any Android phone from a Linux OS? I'd really rather not install Windows just to do this. I imagine Wine might help, but there's got to be a better way to access Linux-to-Linux than using Windows.

I wonder whether there is a way to screen shot android programmatically without rooting the phone?
On Google play, there are numbers of screen shot apps saying "no need to root the phone". But actually, most of them do need to root the phone even they said no need.I can only do it by rooting the phone and pushing my app as system app.

Any way to recover deleted files from the Samsung Galaxy S3 internal SD card without rooting the phone. I dont need to recover anything from the DATA partition, just the internal disk partition.
Ive tried several software and Windows and Ubuntu see my phone as a MTP device, but somehow the software doesnt detect it, even when i put it in USB debugging mode or connect it as a PTP device.

I can root a g1 with ease but I sort of got into trouble with the behold. This might sound stupid but do I need to root the phone before I install the port galaxy 1.6? I just did this.
1. download odin here Odin Multi Downloader v4.03.exe
2. download any Of BH_MAN ODIN Ready Rom's
3. download winrar ( google it) to extract the BH_MAN zip file.
4. follow these instruction
Quote:
1. Unzip the zip file.
2. Open Up ODIN Multi Downloader
3. Click the OPS button and choose Behold2_partition.ops
4. Click the PDA button and choose the md5 file, You will get error message" invalid image...," but ignore it.
5. Turn off Phone.
6. Plug phone into USB.
7. Put phone in download mode (Vol Down + OK + END Button)
8. Wait till detected and press START.
9. Enjoy the Port.
And my phone was stuck on the android logo. do I need to root first and where can I find this? Is this where I go.
