How does one use Autokiller correctly? I want to make sure I'm optimizing my system to get even more battery than I am. Typically I pull over 24 hours on a charge. Want to see if I can get over two days. Thanks in advance Nitsuj17 and Saps =P

Just found the stock /System dump, which includes all the apps/APKs that come with a stock Samsung Fascinate.
*This is useful for those who accidently deleted bloatware, but still want a backup for future use (i.e. for updates).

I have a rooted Fascinate. Using ES file explorer I was able to view system folders and found the system media files containing ringtones, notification tone, etc. However, I can not edit the files there or paste new files in there. I cannot find the system folder when I connect the fascinate to a computer. I tried showing "hidden files" but the folders still would not show up.
What I want to do is add my downloaded ringtones into the system media folder so that I can use those ringtones without having those ringtones appear in my music player. Another post tried to deal with this issue of the music player recognizing ringtones and notification tones, but no one could provide an actual solution to the problem. If I could move ringtones from the media folder on the SD to card to the media folder in the system folder, this would solve the problem.
Can anybody access the system folders in a manner that I can add files to the folders.
EDITED: PROBLEM SOLVED.
With the help given below, I came up with a solution, and have pasted instructions directly below.
Here are the steps I did in case any one else is interested.
Once your phone is rooted, it's pretty simple.
1)Download Root Explorer from the Market. Root explorer will give you the ability to edit folders/files that normally can't be edited, ie read and write permission as opposed to read only.
2)Using Root Explorer (make sure in top left of program it says "mounted as r/w"), copy any ringtone, notification file, .ogg file, .mp3 file, etc that you have made or downloaded, by selecting sdcard folder and navigating to the location of your tones, long pressing the file of interest, and select copy. (You can even long press on the folder and copy the whole folder of tones).
3)Still using Root Explorer, back out of the SD folder, and find the folder called "system". Navigate to system/media/audio/"ringtones" or "notifications" . Click the paste button at the bottom of the screen (which should have appeared as soon as you copied your file/folder). The file/folder will now be in your system's tone folder.
4)You must power down and power back up your phone before the phone will recognize these newly added tones.
5)Either delete the tone files from your SD card, or put a .nomedia file into the folder to remove them from the SF's media player.
this may sound dumb but where can you see the battery percentage on the Fascinate?i cannot seem to find it anywhere.

I noticed that when i turn don't the volume with the rocker button on the side it says ringtone and only lowers the ringer volume. The system and notification volume stays loud. Is there and way to control them all at once?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed this today, I use my phone to USB tether, and after coming home from running errands today my phone was at about 80% battery life, so I put it on the USB cord that it came with and connected it to my computer so I could check email and facebook, etc. Well after a few hours I took my phone off the charger and the battery had dropped to 40%. How is this possible, I know tethering uses power from the phone, but if its connected to the computer and charging as well, why is it still draining my battery? my droid never had this problem and i tethered all the time, is it possible that I have a bad battery?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had my Fascinate for a week and am having some trouble - actually, lots of trouble with it. Any suggestions are welcome:
1. At night I close out all running programs except Zeam - which I'm using as a home replacement since LauncherPro doesn't play nicely with the Fascinate (too much lag). When I close down I have about 90% left on my battery, in the morning, the phone is dead, battery drained. I typically wake up to about 5 emails and no other notifications so it's not processing a ton of incoming data. I can plug it in at night, but the standby time is supposed to be 312 hours. Am I doing something wrong?
2. I can't get the camera app to close. I sometimes have to pull the battery in order to get it to close. I try hitting the home key and get no response, the back key yields nothing, and the power key won't turn it off. The camera remains functional as I try each of these keys. Even after hitting the power key I can immediately take a picture.
3. GPS won't get a lock. I know this is a known problem, but is it a problem on every device, or is it hit and miss?
I really love the Fascinate's form factor and gorgeous screen, but I'm struggling with whether or not to trade for the Droid X before my 30 days are up. The home key lights, lack of text editing assistance (via trackball, trackpad, or on screen software), lack of LED notification light, GPS issues, and lag are making me lean towards the X. I had an X when they first came out and I never quite got used to the size of it. It never felt comfortable in my hand. But the phone itself worked great. I'd prefer not to have to root my phone to get it to work properly.
I just rooted a few days ago. Put a custom ROM on it (KaosFroyo v38). Ever since I rooted my battery dyes in about 3 to 4 hours. My phone says its awake 99.9% and the android OS is using 40-50% battery. Is it possibly the ROM? If so how can I change to a new one? I have a Droid Eris.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOK I would really like some honest sound offs about the battery life on the Fascinate. I'll go first to get it rolling! After about a week with it, I'll say mine pretty much sucks! Its like its got worse! Seriously my evo and incredible both had better battery life. I tried going with out moving wallpaper today and it was about the same, example, left my house at about 10am this morning with a fully charged battery, with some moderate use I was down to 20 percent by 2:30? Not good in my book so far, so I'm wondering if I got a lemon? Also, Did anyone's phone come with the battery already installed inside the device? Mine did, and I've never seen that, the battery is usually in plastic wrap. Got it from a corporate store in NYC!

I've been pretty impressed with my Fascinate's battery life pre-update, but since applying the update 2 days ago I see a significant decrease in battery life. Just wondering if I am alone. Aside from the update, I have not changed anything else about my phone (no new widgets, no new running programs, never rooted).
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm noticing a bit of screen burn-in on my Fascinate, after having it for about 2 and a half monthes. What is burning in is the prompt that appears when my battery is done charging when I plug it in at night. For some reason, when this prompt appears, the screen won't timeout and turn off again, thus keeping the display on for hours after a charge is complete and burning that display in. Currently, it's a very dim burn-in that is only noticable on a completely white background, but it's frustrating nonetheless (and I assume irreversible.... please correct me if i am wrong though...So, i guess my questions are.Is there a setting that will force my display to time-out when plugged in? I haven't messed with too many of the default settings, so I assume this is default behavior of the phone to keep the display on when charging is complete.If not, is there a way around this, without rooting, that will protect my phone's screen from burning in, when this message appears?

Also my phone rightnow when I check the battery information , it said " Android system 88% of battery" " Phone Standon 6% " , Is this because the new Android 1.6 making my battery drainning so fast because rightnow I am using with a little of playing around , WIFI , and then I turn off the WIFI again , the battery still didn't last for at least 24 hours . I didn't making too much calling also .
The screen is off, with the phone left in standby mode. Is it normal for it to die that fast.
View 17 Replies View RelatedAfter noticing my battery was draining quickly, and then after reading this thread, I installed Android System Info to see what was draining my battery so fast. I notice that whenever I would turn on WiFi, the phone will never go to sleep , regardless of what I set the WiFi sleep policy to. After turning off WiFi, the battery still drains heavily.
The WiFi will shut off after 15mins (if you set it to "When screen turns off" or "never when plugged in"). However it seems to keep the CPU on causing it to drain down the battery.
It would seem that whenever WiFi is enabled, the Android system process creates a partial wakelock that does not go away even if you turn off WiFi. The only way to resolve this is by powering off or rebooting the phone.
You can verify this in Android System Info by going into Battery-History-Other Usage-Partial Wake usage to see how much time the "Android System" process holding a partial wake.
I even did a factory reset on the device; and it is still happening so it doesn't appear to be any app that caused the issue. As I said, it works fine as long as I don't enable WiFi.
I already know of two users having this issue, but I'm wondering if folks having battery problems are going through this as well. Is anyone else having similar issues after using WiFi? I'm hoping someone will be able to identify what exactly is putting the wakelock on and we'll be able to find a fix for it. Other than not using WiFi at all or rebooting the phone after using Wifi.

Background: I have been trying to root my phone from information found in a youtube video. All went well and the little ninja bloke with the sniper rifle was in the app list. Tried installing busybox and was told that the phone was not rooted�..
I think I ran the root application again and at some point I started getting this error message when in recovery. I have since run the one click root method to unroot the phone and the little nija dude is no longer there. Since I rooted the phone it will no longer connect to my wireless network, it finds the network and attempts to obtain an ip address. After a few min it times out and tries again. When I load the phone recovery the error message is still present.

You won't be putting your phone down for days, I GUARANTEE IT! You guys seriously just purchased the most kick ass Android device, along with the rest of the Galaxy S phones!
The Vibrant and Captivate users are watching closely. Samsung has promised us a GPS optimization, and presumably your Epic and now Fascinate already has it. So you guys are our life line right now.
For those of you who will be testing out your GPS in the next few days, I'd like to make a few comments, so that we can get accurate GPS testing, to determine if the phone is actually using satellites like it should, or depends instead heavily on less accurate cell phone towers to determine your location, which means the GPS is still busted on these phones.
Okay, so here it goes. When testing your GPS, "Use Wireless Locations" should be turned off. Settings>location & security>Use wireless networks...make sure its UNCHECKED.
Read the note right under it, it says "See location in applications(such as Maps) using wireless networks."
If you put a check mark next to this, and turn this ON, then how will you ever know if the phone is functionally using the satellites. This is the big question with the phone, can it use and lock onto satellites or is Samsung hoping we use less accurate cell towers. Samsung hopes you have this on. I ask that you keep this unchecked, this is the only way to truly test the Satellite usage.
Further, by checking this, you are allowing Google to collect location data, even when no applications are running, they say its anonymous, but you never know.
So uncheck "Use Wireless Networks," restart your phone, make sure this is still unchecked, power up Google Maps, and go for a good long drive. Then please share your real world results. Including, how quickly it located you, was the location correct, how wide of a blue circle is there around your location, did the phone ever drop the GPS signal, etc. No 2 min drives, you really need to drive around a lot to dependably test this.
You can also download "GPS Test" from the Android Market, it will show you how many satellites your phone views, versus how many satellites are locked in. You need 4 LOCKED on satellites to get a true 3D positional lock that includes x,y,z,t. GPS test also shows your accuracy in ft, up in the upper right corner. Good accuracy is anything less than 10 ft. I have phones that get 5ft accuracy, the best accuracy I can get with my Vibrant is 40ft. Please report this number also. If you have time, upload a screen shot of your GPS test, or just take a pic of your phone running the GPS test, upload it and share your results.
You can also use the built in native GPS test. It is virtually the same as the GPS TEST program above, it's just not a pretty visual interface.
Go to your phones dialer, as if you are making a phone call, and dial in *#1472365# or if that doesn't work try *#*#1472365#*#*Then click on "get position test."
This test will show you your longitude and latitude, you can then enter this into Google maps to see how accurately it located you. It gives you accuracy in meters, convert to feet by multiplying the number given in meters by 3.28, you will now have your accuracy in ft.
The native built in test will show you have many satellites it has in view, the satellites that it actually locks onto will have an asterisk next to it. Please report both these numbers. Remember you need 4 locked on satellites for true precise 3D positioning.
I'm really interested to hear from prior smart-phone Android users, because these users will be able to make a direct comparison of the GPS to prior phones.
Has any one try sending photos via email with out hanging in the sending folder? It only sends them when I do a battery pull and once in a wile it will send.
