I am a new hero user and i have noticed the notifications bar not working anymore since i installed some programs yesterday. usually an envelope icon pops out of it and my phone sounds off when an sms is received but now its not working anymore.

I have has my hero from TELUS for about a week now and I would have to say that its a great phone if it weren't for some of the bugs the worst of which is the lack of working notifications!
I have tried everything to get the ring warning, the Led at the top and the flashing track ball to work but to mo avail.
They work intermittently at best. Has anyone else has similar issues with notifications? Has anyone hears if this will be fixed in future updates?
I have had my Epic 4g for two days now and I am having the some notification and email problems. I don't get notifications when new email is available. I only get my email to show up on my inbox on my phone ONLY when i open email. I currently have it set to to check email every 5 minutes but this is obviously not happening. and i dont get a blinking LED when i get a SMS, Text message.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Telus HTC Hero, which the seller had unlocked. I intend to use this phone with another carrier, Bell. After spending a few hours at Bell customer service, they finally managed to get the 3G data working (for weather, email etc.). However, the browser does not work, neither does the Market.
What seems to be causing the problem is that this phone is MASSIVELY tweaked (appears massive to me probably because I'm not that big on tweaking and don't know about the Android OS in general) by the previous owner who only had it for a few days. The Bell customer service person told me that they switched over a couple of other HTC devices from Telus that were NOT tweaked and the data works perfectly.
All I want is for the phone to be in original factory settings, with original ROMs, firmwares, software, etc. etc. Just looking at the whole bunch of different files that this guy had on the 2GB "gold" memory card made my head spin. He attempted to explain to me with all the "updates" and fancy "roms" and "roots" and crap that I didn't understand nor do I want to spend the time to learn.
I understand that a lot of people buy android phones because they love tweaking but I am not really into all that... I just wanted the phone for the form factor and the functionality and I don't want to worry about optimizing and whatnot. So my question is: is there any way to get the phone back to the most original possible software condition? I just want it "clean." Can I go ahead and wipe everything that is on the 2 GB card? What do I do? I performed a hard reset and it took me to some weird startup screen and I chose the first option which is like reboot now (there were also a bunch of other options including apply update.zip or something)... it still gave me the same MoDaCo build.
I can provide any information but I would really appreciate any help in restoring my seemingly very tweaked phone to original, factory settings, so it could be like any other phone being sold by Telus other than the fact that it is unlocked.
I know others have posted with this general problem, but I've read the Android developer page on the topic, as well as several forum and blog posts (such as http://androidblogger.blogspot.com/2009/09/tutorial-how-to-use-led-wi...), and no matter what I do, the LED light will not blink. I've tried it with DEFAULT_LIGHTS:

I don't know if the problem is the O.S. or the stock SMS app (Messages v5.0.582145). But here's the problem:
Most of the time I have a notification icon when I have unread SMS. But sometimes I don't get the notification. The issue seems to occur when I am in one SMS thread and a message comes in on another thread. Or if I leave the app running with a single thread open (as opposed to the "All messages" screen). So I end up with unread SMS messages and no notification. The consequence is that I don't see the stupid message until hours or a day later when I happen to notice the little blue line next to one thread while on the "All messages" scren. The blue line indicates "new/unread message" in the Messages app.
I think it's a bug either in the google O.S. or the google SMS app "Messages". I'm not asking for your favorite notification app.
My phone doesn't vibrate anymore whenever I receive a text. It is set up to vibrate, but still nothing. I thought it was a problem with Handcent app, but I removed that app, and was still not vibrating.

Problem: Audible notifications don't go off during a call. So there's no way to know if you have a text/email/whatever unless you set the status LED to go off, which kind of defeats the purpose if you are holding the phone up to your ear.
Is this a problem with the Android platform or HTC's software? For those who are using FroYo, does this problem exist?
If so, how do they work? Different colors?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure when this started happening or if it ever even worked, but my vibrate notifications do not work for text messages or email (i'm using K-9). I've gone through EVERY possible setting, in the messaging app, in K-9, and the standard phone settings, to ensure that Vibrate Notification is indeed on, and yet it does not work. It doesn't matter if my phone is on Vibrate Mode, Silent Mode, or Normal Mode, no vibration notifications.
I've tried restarting the phone, nothing works.
My Haptic Feedback works perfectly.
I have Facebook for Android set to update notifications every hour and have set it to vibrate and play a sound...but I have yet to get even 1 notification. I have to go in to and manually update myself. Anyone else got this problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedOn the Facebook app, when you go into your Home, you can select Notifications. I'm assuming this will show you anything new such as friend requests, etc.. It doesn't show anything for me. I have reset the phone 3 times and I still cannot get this section to work. I also go to Menu>Refresh and it still says "No notifications". I know I have some notifications pending because the desktop and mobile site both say I do. Does anyone else have this problem? I have also uninstalled any Facebook updates and it still does not fix this. Am I missing something?

One thing i seem to be having a problem with is the pop up notifications. what i would like is to have the phone wake up and show the email notifications on the lockscreen like the iphone does. I have notifications turned on for both gmail and the email app as well as facebook but the only time this works is with the messages.

I have a problem with google+ Android app, recently, today I stop from receiving notifications on my phone not even on the status bar and I have the config for example this community to receive notifications. The only way I could recieve them and others I've configured is to enter the app and the other strange thing is that I doesn't even sound while I have configured that too. I've reinstalled and installed the app, wipe cache and dalvik, wipe the app data and config again with no results, it's too rare. y Google App version is 4.2.4.58179886 and i have activated the sync of Google+ on the account. For further information i receive notifications with sound for people who circle me and mention me but not communities or circles i have.
P.S.: For Google+ web notifications are working as they do. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with Jelly Bean 4.1.2. Don't know if it has to be with other Google services like Google Play Services, Google Framework or other.
For awhile, my Facebook push notifications were working just fine until I had updated to Jelly Bean. I tried everything.. to clearing cache, data, uninstalling, and even the BlackBerry trick again (worked once before) and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they weren't working anymore. I thought maybe it was Facebook clashing with JB. I read everywhere and found out some people had no issues and some had some where every push notifications didn't work and some just Facebook.
Well I spend a day or so trying to figure it out and finally found a new, simple fix.
1) Open the Facebook app.
2) Tap on menu button on the top left
3) Account > Account Settings
4) Apps and Websites
5) Clear out Facebook related apps (Like Friendcaster or HTC Sense)
6) Clear data on the Facebook app and launch app
I noticed some off the apps in there have a push notification toggle button and I believe it was messing up the push notification system of there was to many to keep up with.
Once I spent 20 mins clearing those apps out, I cleared data and started the app notifications started working again. I didn't know it worked until someone wrote on my wall and I was shocked to see a notification!

so this is really starting to piss me off, there's a whole list of things that piss me off about this ROM.
It will randomly restart Text Notifications NEVER make sound no matter what i do. Home button does not work, neither does the search button.
I've tried rebooting, re flashing, downloading other things. Still to no avail. A little help please?
The other day I was clearing up some space on my phone so I was removing data from a few apps. Twitter happens to be one and up to that point it worked fine. This is the default twitter app that came with my nexus one and it has all the latest updates.Since that though its not refreshing itself until I press the refresh button and because of that, I think, I get no notifications. I've looked through all the settings and everything looks right. Update interval Is at 5, same as before and syncing is enabled everywhere. But it does nothing until I pressure the refresh button myself. The Gmail client still works perfectly and I get notifications as always when I get an email.I know your probably gonna tell me to get another Twitter client but all I use it for Is reading news so this one has everything I need and a nice simple UI. Plus it came with the phone so I can't uninstall it anyway.

However, it only vibrates when I get a text message. Also, the sounds only happens at random times, when I have NO notifications. It really bothers me. After upgrading to Gmail 4.3 on both of my devices (TF101 running Team EOS 4, and One S running LiquidSmooth 2.1), I had the ability to archive/delete from notifications. However, I noticed that this function was missing yesterday; it's gone back simply to "swipe to dismiss".
I've tried reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot unsubscribe to this group. When sending an email to the unsubscribe account, it is being rejected.
If google are reading this could you fix it? Also your ADC2 rules are unfair. Just for your information.
