We have a very complex social network site that we want to design for mobile and in the past created our visualizations/user interface for PC in photoshop and dreamweaver than presented to our coders to build. We struggled to repeat this successful approach for mobile and are now looking for the most effective methods or tools.

Is there a place where I could find open source examples of User Interfaces for android apps. Like a project containing custom buttons, isons, sound effect, a nice layout with multiple blank activities that serves as a skin for your app. Strangely I didn't find anything like this whereas there are plenty of themes.

It is about using HTC's Touch HD phone as a device in a museum with rich media/video about the art and the artists on it. Besides the videos and animation, I also want to show some content from a web browser. Now my biggestest issue. I do not want that the museum guest who pick up the phone for the tour get to see the standard Android user interface. Is there a way to develop a new user interface that would start up directly once the phone is turned on? It should then automatically start the app with the museum infos. Later I may want to add some GPS functions and even sms and photo taking, etc....
What do you think, how flexible is Android to allow that?
In Android, how can I replace the user interface of an emulator by my own interface? I would like to start my own interface immediately as the emulator gets started and that the user can't use the original interface but the original interface is on the background.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs far as I understand, Android and the Galaxy touch screen is not meant to be calibrated; at least, there does not seem to be a user interface for doing so (this is also true of the tilt and compass sensors, and yet various apps include their own calibration methods.)
The trouble is that I frequently --perhaps 40% of the time-- hit the key to the right of the one I meant to type. That is, I get an "M" instead of an "N", a "Z" when I intended to shift into uppercase, and so on. One might argue that I just need to get used to this teensy keyboard, but I might argue that a good user interface should get used to me. Is there anything that can be done?
Well a new version of my favorite ROM came out and I installed it. Sadly the designer deleted my wallpaper in the last update and in this one he deleted my ring tone and notification tones. How can I back up these choices and add them to the newest version of the ROM? The new version is much quicker and I want to use it but only with those tones.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe problem is maintaining apps that were NOT installed from the Market, but from .apk files scattered in various directories on the SD card. What I need is a tool that combines the functionality of an app manager like Easy Installer together with details of all currently-installed apps: In a single big list sorted by app name, I'd like to see the installed version (if any), plus every available .apk file and the version it contains. That would make it SO much easier to know if I need to update installed apps with a newer version, and to delete multiple .apk files of outdated versions.
I've seen lots of apps (including the Apps menu built into Android Settings) to view the installed apps and their version info -- and also lots of apps to scan the whole SD card for .apk files and display the actual app info (name, version, etc.) vs. just the filenames. What's missing is an easy way to compare all these.
What are the privileges of two apps with same id? I thought that two apps with the same id can communicate with implicit intents without the need for intent filters to be advised.I created two test apps for this reason but it failed.

It has 4 GB of internal memory... but it only allows me to download apps from google Play up to 1 GB of space occupied. So It remains with 3 GB of free internal storage, and google Play says no more memory space is available when I try to download a simple app.
Even more strange is the following: I uninstalled apps to free about 40 MB of internal storage, and try to install a 1 MB app and IT SAYS NO SPACE IS AVAILABLE.

I need to know how to convert User apps to System apps. I know Titanium Backup can do it but I don't want to pay 7 bucks for the pro version.
Do I just move the APK from the /data/app to /system/app?
I am on a deodexed ROM so no odex files to move.
If I convert these user apps to system apps will it raise the OOM value? That's what I am after really.

I'm having another problem with my milestone that I'd like to share with developers and Android coders: Whenever I run memory-intensive applications while I have an IM app running in the background, the IM app is often killed without any user notification whatsoever.Take this scenario for instance (works every time on my Milestone): A few background apps are already running: Sipdroid, Locale, Titanium Backup's service... 2. Launch Nimbuzz (or Fring, eBuddy or Meebo - it's reproducible on all of them) 3. Use lots of memory - for instance with a browser (open lots of windows will full desktop sites), or by launching multiple memory- intensive applications at once (Maps Navigation or other navigation apps work well)
