General :: Apps Installing Without User Permission?
Feb 5, 2014
Over the past week I have had the following apps apparently install themselves or be be installed by another app or program, approximately one every day without my express permission:
Big Fish Casino by Big Fish GamesSimple Email Share by App FireMinesweeper by App FireDaily Funny Videos by App FireSimple Email Share by App FireMax Web Search Pro by App FireDownload Manager by App Fire
They appear in my Droid RAZR MAXX HD phone, Kindle Fire HD+ tablet and My Apps on Google Play Store. In an effort to track down the source, I have installed and used: Lookout Ad Network Detectoravast! MobilePermission Explorer
I have not been able to determine what app or apps are causing this. It may also come from my home office PC, but security scans find nothing there either.

I am using Omnirom, I have installed Supersu. However, when I open apps that needs Su permission. It does not prompt out the allow permission window. It seems the Su does not work. Do I need to root Omnirom first? Or something I missed?

Is there an app that lists all installed apps by permission? That way I could list all apps that automatically start at boot... Or those that like to read contact data...

I have a application. I write android:sharedUserId="android.uid.system" in AndroidManifest.xml. I want to get system permission. I install to HTC mobile phone. But install fail.error info: Package has no signatures that match those in shared user android.uid.system. In application I need android.uid.system, don't remove.

For instance, let's take android.permission.GET_PACKAGE_SIZE. Searching for this string in Android 1.6 *.xml source files only points to a single application that uses it, frameworksas estsAndroidTests.
So the next step is to search through the .java files in a hope that I'll eventually find the code that might look like it queries for a package size. Is this the supposed way of discovering permission use?

I cant seem to find any posts about this but it has driven me nuts since I upgraded to Android from my non-smart phone. I don't want to give my number out to every app I install. Yes I understand I can not install apps that require this permission, but is there a way to "Spoof" this permission. in other words if an app requests my phone identity, it would return a fake number instead of my real number?
I am running Cyanogen Jordon

Is there a simple way to activate/deactivate bluetooth without having some dialog popup requesting the user's permission every time? I have an app that plays music (it's actually part of a scheduled alarm). I want to play music through some bluetooth speakers I have already paired the phone with, but I don't want bluetooth to run while I am not using that app or after the app has shut down -- I want to reduce any unnecessary load on the battery.

Is there a quick way to show all the apps installed on my Android device which have the "Automatically start at boot" permission?
I know there are a few "startup manager" apps that allow to modify startup behaviour, but most of them require root access and moreover they also require auto start at boot permission to work.
I'd just like a way to figure out which of my apps have that permission so I can decide which is worth keeping and which to uninstall.

I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy Grand I9080L (single SIM). It has 4 GB of internal memory... but it only allows me to download apps from google Play up to 1 GB of space occupied. So It remains with 3 GB of free internal storage, and google Play says no more memory space is available when I try to download a simple app.
Even more strange is the following: I uninstalled apps to free about 40 MB of internal storage, and try to install a 1 MB app and IT SAYS NO SPACE IS AVAILABLE.

We want to develop an application blocking feature in our project.
Our application (say application "A") will block the installation of specified app (say malicious application "B"). Then we need to know when the application "B" is in installing process.
Is there any APIs about this, or can some one give me a hint on this?

I do nothing and once a day I see a new app is installed on my phone.I made a factory reset, then installed only a couple of the most important apps. After that, a month later, it began again. Is it a virus? I don't know, because I install "Avast!" - no warninds, then "Lookout" - it also says no malware is found. The programs it installs look fine, they are not malware at all. What should I do now? Should I report to any antivirus company?

Some apps seem to install to internal memory by default, and some to sd card if one is present.
Even more annoyingly however, many of the apps that default to SD card if you move them to internal memory MOVE BACK TO THE SD CARD when you update them.
Is there any way to prevent apps from automatically installing to the SD card? Or at the very least, installing to SD card is fine... but to prevent them from moving BACK to the sd card when you update them?

I need to know how to convert User apps to System apps. I know Titanium Backup can do it but I don't want to pay 7 bucks for the pro version.
Do I just move the APK from the /data/app to /system/app?
I am on a deodexed ROM so no odex files to move.
If I convert these user apps to system apps will it raise the OOM value? That's what I am after really.
GO Launcher gets killed way to easily. And while I am at it, I what to move GO SMS and Miren Browser if this will work.

Is there a place where I could find open source examples of User Interfaces for android apps. Like a project containing custom buttons, isons, sound effect, a nice layout with multiple blank activities that serves as a skin for your app. Strangely I didn't find anything like this whereas there are plenty of themes.

I am planning to buy my son and daughter the new nexus 7 for for education purposes, they are 6 and 7 respectively, so their frontal lobe is not yet developed to make sound judgement. It is against both our family code and kyokushin oath to engage in sloth, and I certainly don't want to buy them a device that would do more damage and good.
I have discussed this with my wife that the only condition we going to buy to the tablet is that we can be sure that no gaming app ever can be installed. If I let my children sign in with their own gmail account into the nexus 7, is their parental control that I can set up that would notify me that gaming apps have been installed on their account or better block all game apps?
If all else fails, I'll just have to periodically check the tablets for gaming apps.

I just bought a Nexus 7 for my fiance and I, and was wondering if the apps she downloaded could be used on my profile. I didn't see them on my profile, and I don't want to have to pay twice for an app.

I'm about ready to market my first Android App (from a US Google Checkout/Merchant account with US bank account etc.), and I would like to have the user at least agree to some kind of simple liability disclaimer before he/she can install the app. To your knowledge, is it possible, and if so, what would be the best way to do this?

I've have a Nexus 7 2012 running 4.3. On a clean install, the running apps tab in the settings showed Used RAM equal to 450 MB.
After installing some apps, now the Used RAM shows to be 560 MB. I haven't installed apps that throw push ads or run background processes. I do have some free apps that show ads though.
I tried to stop cached processes an d running processes, bur that increased the RAM use. Even app ops doesn't list all my apps. Is there any way I can reduce this RAM usage?

How to convert user apps to system apps? Many apps give fc because of some missing files. I would like to move whatsapp and maps to system to get some free internal memory.
How can I add more apps into system while porting a Rom, what all libraries and permissions do I need to take care of? I already tried /system/mover and similar apps. While manually moving whatsapp I couldn't find library files

I have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?

My main phone is my new HTC Sensation, and I have all my regular apps installed on there (via the Android market, using my Google account).
My old phone - Rooted HTC Hero - I keep as a spare, and use only when I am travelling overseas, to put a local SIM Card into.
My question is, can I install apps on the spare phone on an ad-hoc basis, without using my regular Google account?
Ideally, downloading .apk files for Android market apps?
As it's only a spare, and mainly used for voice not data, i don't really want all the same apps as on my main phone, just some of them -things like Go SMS, JuiceDefender, etc
Also currently, the plan I have with the local SIM card I'm currently using has no data - only voice. So apart from connecting it via my laptop, I could only install apps using free wifi.

I'm getting an "insufficient storage" error on installing apps from Google Play (even small 6mb apps). I find if i delete several apps and run it again it works (there is apparently 470MB free despite this).
I've seen references to changing settings so that Google Play installs to the SD card but cant figure out which apply here. And also to clearing the cache for applications (in the TWRP app perhaps?).
I've run the jmz script from the Nabi 2 root thread, but I think I'm missing a step or two (although apps do in fact install, which they wouldn't before).

Anyone ever had this happen? Downloaded an update after the 2.1 upgrade and I sync'd my contacts with FB. It then deleted all of my contacts. So I deleted Facebook, re-stored all my contacts and reloaded Facebook. However, now it gets as far as installing and it never stops. It just stays on Installing. However, the FB app works fine on the phone itself. Is this a Market glitch? Is there anyway I can purge it from out of my downloads section?
