General :: How To Move User Apps Containing Lib And Data Files To System
Apr 1, 2013
How to convert user apps to system apps? Many apps give fc because of some missing files. I would like to move whatsapp and maps to system to get some free internal memory.
How can I add more apps into system while porting a Rom, what all libraries and permissions do I need to take care of? I already tried /system/mover and similar apps. While manually moving whatsapp I couldn't find library files

I am searching an application that allows me to backup the .apk files of both user and system applications like AppWererabbit (http:url...). The problem is that i need this app to be compatible with android versions below 4.0, i.e. android 2.3.X.
I have already installed titanium backup on my phone, but i miss the ability to set an automatic .apk backup when each system/user app is updated. I think that to keep .apk files of older versions of the same app could be usefull.

I need to know how to convert User apps to System apps. I know Titanium Backup can do it but I don't want to pay 7 bucks for the pro version.
Do I just move the APK from the /data/app to /system/app?
I am on a deodexed ROM so no odex files to move.
If I convert these user apps to system apps will it raise the OOM value? That's what I am after really.
GO Launcher gets killed way to easily. And while I am at it, I what to move GO SMS and Miren Browser if this will work.

I'm looking for an backup application which will allow me to backup my apps and system data on roms based on stock ICS and restore to JB and vice versa.
Titanium backup does the job but after restoring on a new rom I get a lot of fc's and none of the apps works. I cannot restore call log and text messages, accounts, etc.
There's a lot of backup apps, I know. But I would like to be sure that they work as they should. Any app which will do the job?

I was trying to free up space for my phone apps to run, by moving music files from the /emmc/music folder to my SD card. I succeded only when I resorted to using my PC connection, when both Astro and ES Explorer gave me "files cannot be moved" errors. I would prefer not to have done it this way, when I could have made use of such apps, but some part of the system is set against this. My phone isn't rooted, but I doubt that is the reason, as my PC was able to access files under /emmc (but not /system), and move them to my SD card. With my phone apps it's different, in that I cannot perform any operations at all under the root, not even copy (but I can look) Please help if you can!

I've ordered the 16gb class 10 to replace the default 4gb one (using navigation alot), is there something which can help me to move to new card one easily? I mean, with 2.2 - I moved all my apps to SD, and if I turn it off, would they just ... die somehow? Or it's enough to just copy all content from old SD to my PC and then back to new one? No tricks?

Was reading a thread over at XDA talking about moving certain apps from data/app to system/app to help them run faster, or not get killed by Autokiller (don't even use that)... anyway, I opened up EStrongs File Explorer with root enabled, and it appears all of my apps are in system/app as opposed to data/app. Is that normal? I am currently on xtrROM 4.6 and used Titanium to restore my apps.

I used the option in batching Titanium Backup to move apps and data to my sdcard to save some space. I've decided I want to move it back so that it's available when I press the Launcher. I know where it's stored on the sdcard and I have root explorer, but I'm just not sure which folder to move it back to in the first place. which folder houses all the apps that are currently available via the Launcher?

Okay so i have this really old phone (Samsung Captivate) with a really awesoem clock app. But its a system app and i want to install it on one of my other phones (Galaxy Nexus) as a user app.
They both are NOT running stock ROM. In fact the Cappy is on 4.2.1 and the Nexus on 4.2.2.
Not a big differnece, right? So i presume this would be possible.
Before you ask, i did do research on this and found nothing but moving one user app from one phone to another phone as a user app, etc. Nothing with moving a system app from one phone to user app on another. (My phone is dead at the moment)

I have just updated xperia x10 from 1.6 to 2.1 (Rogers) and figured it out that all my applications were lost. Before the update, I installed the last PC Companion Software from SE and made two backups using the backup and restore application. After the update, when I tried to restore using it, there's no market application checkbox. Everything else (contacts, messages..) was restored. The paid applications are shown in the Market Download tab to install, but just that (because they are associated with google account).Nothing more. I lost about +50 apps with their user data.I searched all the net about it, but the only info I found it was that the backup and restore tool just save the application links. How about the user data? I reinstall some of the apps that I had, but no user data. Am I the only one that had this problem? Is there any advanced tool to try to undelete internal memory of the phone?

I run the risk of getting flamed for this... but I deem it a worthy thread, as things are constantly changing. I haven't found an up-to-date thread that has satisfied me yet.
I recently joined the Android community with my purchase of the Moto Droid. After a few days, I became interested in the rooting process and gave it a go... upgrading to Froyo. There have been several ROMs I've tried out, but I'm very hesitant to try more due to backups.
Will somebody provide me (in words or a link) the best way to backup all of my applications and data when testing out a new ROM? I tried Titanium Backup (and even donated), yet I never have successfully restored from a backup. Some applications and system data restore, but a ton of apps don't install, and I have to re-enter my email accounts (and appropriate sync settings) every time. This and the number of apps it doesn't restore (especially Swype) makes it not worth messing around with.
I read something about Nandroid backup, but that just looked like it was a backup in case something went terribly wrong with a ROM or something of the sort. Also, it looked like in the Simply Stunning (ChevyNo1) 4.2, there was a built in backup script... but I'd like to be able to venture between ROMs.
I want to be able to backup all of my apps and system data (gmail accounts, sms, etc), install a new ROM, and reload all of my apps and data.

I have a question about moving files after rooting, installed supersu already and give root browser permissions in supersu.
I have a problem with moving a apk file from downloads/direct to system/priv-app. It says after i'm trying to moved it "failed operations" and it seems like it's the only directory i can't move files to.
I have read that the files or directory should have some special permissions, but i'am sure that the criteria are met.
Also when i go to supersu to see logfiles on the "action" it says that i need supersu pro to move that files. But will it works or what should i do to get this to work?

I know I can multi select and zip them and send via Bluetooth, but once you try to extract the songs from the zip file, it wants to name each file the same as you named the zip file.
I would like to be able to move many songs from one phone to another with Bluetooth.

I've just loaded some mp3 files onto my Nexus 7.
My daughter has an account on the same device and I'd like to give her 'read only' access to the mp3 library in my account (rather than loading the same files into her account and wasting space with 'duplicate mp3' files).
None of the file manager apps I've tried so far seem to have the ability of setting file permissions.

How can I move data files of gameloft games to external SD? Without root? For newer gameloft games like Asphalt7, the location seems to be sdcard/Android/obb/GameName. I want to change it to something like
sdcard/external_sdAndroid/obb/GameName.
I know that by rooting, I can use apps like Directory Bind, GL2SD, etc to do this. But I don't want to root my phone just yet, as I want the warranty to run over.
I don't mind decompiling the APKs individually to get the job done. But when I decompiled the APK of one such game using apktool/apkmanager, the set of XMLs that I got didn't have the cache location (I searched for "sdcard" in all the XMLs using Notepad++ but couldn't find anything).
I know of a "Gameloft Patcher" that can do something like this, but it is for older gameloft games, where the cache location is sdcard/gameloft/games.
I would like to specify the cache location myself, as it varies individually for each game. That's why I thought of decompiling the APKs, but couldn't get it to work.

When I use an explorer like ES explorer or Root explorer I can go to system/ and find several files & folders.
However, when going to recovery and using the TWRP File manager or by using ADB Shell the System-folder is empty except for a folder named bin/. No sign of build.prop or any other files/folders.

location of the system file that determines the touch interface? What I mean is some kind of files like build.prop that has the info of touch pressure, touch sensitivity, number of touch points etc. mention the system file that determine the air view feature of note 2 and s4.
mention the system file that interchange info within phone and cellular operator? What I mean with info is something like interchanging data usage report to the operator.

I try to create 'foo/bar.txt' in Android's /data/data/pkg/files directory.
It seems to be a contradiction in docs:
To write to a file, call Context.openFileOutput() with the name and path.
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#files
The name of the file to open; can not contain path separators.
[url]
And when I call
this.openFileOutput("foo/bar.txt", Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
exception is thrown:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: File foo/bar.txt contains a path separator
So how do I create file in subfolder?
