My phone should be delivered shortly, and I'm trying to decide what user interface I want to use. I'm new to Android and this is also my first smart phone. Can someone tell me what the advantages and disadvantages of these two user interfaces are?

What parts of the UI are Touchwiz and which parts are pure Android? I looked at screen shots of the Android system on the Web and with the exception of some different buttons here and missing ones there, they look very similar to me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedLauncherpro Plus seems to be laggy at times especially when pressing the home button while you're in a program e.g. Angry Birds. With touchwiz, this lag is completely gone, making the experience much better. With Launcherpro Plus, I'd have to wait a couple of seconds for the home screen to pop up. Is this just my phone, or is the lag a price you have to pay for an awesome launcher?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've not used touchwiz before, but have used sense for about 30 days. i shouldn't have a problem adjusting, but there are a couple of items that stood out as bad design (so far): 1) waste of space at top of portrait view, the 7 dots to indicate screen positions. 2) the four icons at bottom of portrait view (or on right of landscape) are not customizable.
View 13 Replies View RelatedAs far as I understand, Android and the Galaxy touch screen is not meant to be calibrated; at least, there does not seem to be a user interface for doing so (this is also true of the tilt and compass sensors, and yet various apps include their own calibration methods.)
The trouble is that I frequently --perhaps 40% of the time-- hit the key to the right of the one I meant to type. That is, I get an "M" instead of an "N", a "Z" when I intended to shift into uppercase, and so on. One might argue that I just need to get used to this teensy keyboard, but I might argue that a good user interface should get used to me. Is there anything that can be done?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am looking for some answers from some of the experts here. I have a project in mind that I want to start. It is about using HTC's Touch HD phone as a device in a museum with rich media/video about the art and the artists on it. Besides the videos and animation, I also want to show some content from a web browser. Now my biggestest issue. I do not want that the museum guest who pick up the phone for the tour get to see the standard Android user interface. Is there a way to develop a new user interface that would start up directly once the phone is turned on? It should then automatically start the app with the museum infos. Later I may want to add some GPS functions and even sms and photo taking, etc....
What do you think, how flexible is Android to allow that?
In Android, how can I replace the user interface of an emulator by my own interface? I would like to start my own interface immediately as the emulator gets started and that the user can't use the original interface but the original interface is on the background.

Is there a place where I could find open source examples of User Interfaces for android apps. Like a project containing custom buttons, isons, sound effect, a nice layout with multiple blank activities that serves as a skin for your app. Strangely I didn't find anything like this whereas there are plenty of themes.

I have an Epic 4G through Sprint.I am a DJ and I like to listen to other DJ's mixes that are hosted online. I guess they are kinda like podcasts but only audio. An example is a site called PodOMatic. Another is called Soundcloud and another is Mixcrate.com.If I follow a DJ's link to their upload on my PC, I can listen to the full mix. Sometimes I will even download the mix and listen to the mp3 file on a mp3 player or something.Now, If I follow a link on my phone, I can not listen. The player (java? flash?) will not even show. Soundcloud is the only site that seems to work, but I only get to listen to a couple minutes of the song.Is there a way to stream these types of files through my phone? Can I download the files to my phone, then listen later? Surely there is an app for this?

Battery life stinks, camcorder quality is terrible (especially with the 2.1 upgrade), camera is fair but severely lacking in features, the phone has slow touch response times, and it's ridiculously bulky. I have wanted to put some videos up on youtube of me performing some of my music and the quality of the camcorder is so bad that is not an option. I have held off purchasing a separate Flip camcorder because I knew there would be a smart phone by Sprint that had a full-fledged camcorder integrated with the phone.At the time I bought it, it was simply the best smart phone Sprint offered. But the Samsung Epic 4G is going to be the phone I wanted initially. The specs are incredible, and since I won't use a phone without a slider keyboard the phone is perfect for me. Besides being much faster and full-featured than the Moment, the form factor seems a good bit slimmer than the Moment too (I've seen pictures of the phone only, but you can tell it's slimmer in the pictures).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI replaced Touchwiz's home with GDE off of the martet. It makes the phone truly phenomenal. Now, it doesn't officially support cupcake, but if you can buy it off of a G1 or other 1.6/higher device, you will be able to download it on a 1.5. Otherwise, do a build.prop hack. I'll release one of my own, but I contacted the developer first to see if he'd just do it officially, it'd be much cleaner and safer.

View 17 Replies View RelatedJust want to know what exactly TouchWiz is, since it seems to be the only thing that keeps me from buying this phone over the iPhone 4 at the moment. Everyone keeps saying that it slows the phone down, and each person has something different to say about the possibility of removing it and the phone running faster. Would be nice to clarify on that, since it seems like some people just got lucky with their phones, they're just used to a slower speed, or that the other people just don't know how to remove all the bloatware properly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI saw this on another thread. Figured it would belong here well. Anyway, If you don't like the TouchWiz that Samsung has put on, you can follow this to disable it. This is tentative until someone can try it on a Fascinate for sure, but it should work. I have the system dump and the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk is a regular app under /system/app/. I may not be labelled as TWLauncher as on the video, but something similar to it. I will update as soon as I receive mine and more people doing it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've spent the last week or so retooling my launch screens with different launchers (LauncherPro Plus, Open Home, ADW) and I liked features of them all, but no one launcher had all the features I wanted and no one launcher looked completely ready for prime time. So yesterday I went back to TW, just to see what I was missing and found that I like it better than I did before. It's not on par with Sense (I had an Aria before I went to the Cap), but it's a well-executed UI with enough polish to make it look slick enough. The third party stuff was always a little janky and I had to futz with the phone to get it right. I come from a graphics background and, while I don't really dig the cartoony icons and I wish I had the option to select my own, it's a nice looking interface.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI do not like touchwiz I simply would like to use the stock android 2.1 until 2.2 comes out does anyone know how disable this at all, plus I would like to use some apps in market which causes problems with this touchwiz 3.0. Applauncher pro runs buggy with touchwiz, and for some reason alot of the market apps are missing and does not allow me to download them like I am able to on my N1. Curse this Touchwiz 3.0 crap I want it gone please if anyone knows how I can remove or atleast disable it that would be great, I would like to run other launchers and cant seem to do this really with this Samsung crap launcher ruins everything. Seems like my N1 is just about able to download everything on market.. I shit you not like half the apps I have and like on my n1 are not able to work on my vibrant.. this is so lame and I am very upset about this their has to be a reason, My n1 still runs way faster and smooth with other launchers like app launcher pro compared to this crap touchwiz.
