Just dropped mine for the FIRST time since I purchased it in February. Dropped it from about average arms height onto a hard-wood floor, and it had a silicone case on it. Not really worried, but I am just curious how bad you have dropped your Hero at one time or another? Also, what kind of testing do these phones go through? Are they designed to take a bit of a drop? I have always been curious about that.

Merely turning your phone on may be enough to prevent it from sleeping. What I'm about to tell you is 100% repeatable. I've done it about ten times now; it has happened every time. I'm running the stock Android 2.1 ROM from Sprint. <Background> When Android boots, it preloads a huge number of apps into RAM. Essentially, it's starting JVM processes and loading the classes of applications without actually executing any of their code. Android does this to reduce the lag you would feel when activating one of these apps. These preloaded apps are said to be EMPTY. There's no real penalty for preloading these apps since they're loaded in the background in otherwise idle CPU cycles and their processes will be terminated as needed to free up RAM for applications you begin using. </Background>
Although it should be impossible, one of those preloaded apps is preventing the Hero from sleeping. By process of elimination, I have found which one it is: Footprints.............
right now i am currently using the DD froyo from 8.24 i love it, it runs so fast only gripe about it is not having visual voicemail what other roms are there are fast and give me my visual voicemail back? are there any other froyo roms out there?

My niece recently got this phone and dropped it the other day. It landed on the volume down button and now gives an error when she restarted it about no Sim Recovery or something like that. I haven't seen it yet as I won't see her again til the weekend. Is their anything she can do to fix the issue. I had her remove the battery and while the cover was off she was able to get the volume down button unpressed and working again.
When placing the battery back in the phone will no longer power on. Is recovery loaded by the volume down and power button? I thought I read somewhere the Home key was also needed to boot into recovery on the phone. Can I download any stock back up to place on her SIM card if infact this is the issue? Thanks for the help. I have a moment and I know it in an out but the hero is new to me still. I am gonna have her take it to sprint if we can't figure this out if I must but I hate dealing with the local repair center.
Can anyone link me to a guide on what programs are needed. Blackberry and Apple (jailbroken) were great fun making themes and changing icons.Hopefully someone can hook me up with a solution.

Specifically I am having problems dropping calls in my apartment, which seems to be at the edge of three different towers (I will connect to all three just by walking from room to room...don't know if that is typical).I am new to Sprint, so I don't quite have a feel for what I should expect from the network, but my fiancee--also on Sprint but with a different phone--doesn't seem to have the same issues.
View 3 Replies View Relatedran into a little problem yesterday when i was going back and forth between roms. i usually wipe before restoring nandroid but this time i ran into the error nandroid adb thing. i was able to get into rom manager and flash clockwork recovery and then flash back RA_v1.6.2 to restore my nandroid but i was wondering whats the BEST and NEWEST recovery image out right now? i dont want to run into this problem again. i thought i broke my phone! lucky i searched on here and someone said to reinstall the recovery image which is what i did and it worked!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI now own the Hero for two weeks, but this is the Phone with one of the worst cameras i have seen.I also own a Nokia N95, this one is 100x better.or a phone that claims all in one and one of the latest models, without a flash, cannot claim this.Then they said it is 5MP, i think it is even 1.5mp.My wife has a old Samsung with 1MP, this thing makes even better Photo's then the Hero.It is a crap that i have to buy a program like FX to make better photo's.And yes i know, a phone is to make calls.Then there is the lack of very bad Bluetooth.I hope HTC will fix this soon, or i return the phone.Are there any positives, Yes i like the model and the layout.The touch screen is very good, also the touch keyboard.The phone presumes to be a business one, but at the moment i would not recommend it to my colleagues.

When on a G signal the browser/market/facebook app etc don't work, (says check Internet connection) If i tick the 2G only box then untick it I get 3G/H signal again? Also when i receive phone calls the G/3G/H signal disappears totally (just the 3-4 bars). Once the phone settles on G signal it wont go up to 3G or H signal again without ticking 2G only then unticking? Any ideas whats wrong here?
View 30 Replies View RelatedToday I dropped my HTC Hero on the ground from less than a foot above and when it dropped it turned off so I went to turn it back on and after multiple tries finally got it to the hold screen. When I went to pull down the hold screen to go to the home screen it went to the screen when you're turning it on that says "hTc". I immediately hit end and it goes back to the hold screen then when I pull it down it again it says that some of the applications, which I assume by their name is part of the phone processing, isn't working so I have to force it close. The weird thing is I still get my emails and texts and when a phone call comes in it says the Android application isn't working. Anybody know what is going on here?

1 - Dropped calls - no matter who or where I am calls drop about 25% of the time. I can be sitting at home doing nothing but talking then drop.. it happens alot.. starting to annoy me..
2 - Failed to send texts - I am having a text conversation then a random message stops and wont deliver - retry - retry again - wait a minute or 2 and retry - it works.... this is getting very anoying.. again about 25% of the time.
3 - Internet connection - (3g) - after about 4 or 5 clicks it will lock up and display page not found... wait about a minute - retry and again it works... this is about 40% of the time
4 - my friend sends me a text message/ missed call with a new number. I cant add it to an existing contact - it only allows you to add a new contact. plus copy and paste doesnt work at these points. - i end up having to write the number down and then edit the contact.
5- T9 - when I add a word to the library - it doesnt remember the word in my text - I have to type it in again and then it predicts it (minor but annoying). this phone is awsome as a gadget - but pretty crap as a phone. any one got any advice on how to help ?
just an opinion thing but do you think your home works better or worst on wifi? Because I think I see dramatic improvement on my phone just a thought

I have Settings>Sound & Display>Audible selection "unchecked" and I still get this.

Ok I found it and boy did I have to do some digging. settings>applications>running services>android keyboard>Sound on Keypress = Uncheck.
after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

View 1 Replies View Relatediv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.
