View 11 RepliesI have a droid X and love it. It's been great and I'm a huge android fan. That being said, after the update from Android 2.2 to 2.3 (gingerbread), I lost the ability to connect to WEP-secured wifi signals. I know it's not just my wifi at home, but ANY WEP wifi... I've been to Starbucks, other people's houses, etc, and had the same issue. Other types of security work just fine, but it essentially means that 50% of the time I can't connect to wifi.
What specifically happens is the phone identifies the signal and asks if I'd like to log in. I type in the password, but the "connect" button is NEVER responsive... it has been greyed out so that I can only press cancel.
In general, I've had spotty connection with other wifi as well (It will work for a few minutes, lose the signal, find it again, work, rinse-and-repeat).
I've googled solutions. Most of the answers ask me to change the actual router settings. I CANNOT DO THIS as I am living in a shared apartment. It is not my router. Moreover, I know that it's not a router problem as I have encountered NUMEROUS routers (including my routers at home that I used all the time before the 2.3 update) that this happens with.
This is driving me nuts! Ive had my phone for a week and all of a sudden today it makes the worst clicking sounds when I type anything. It literally sounds like a typewriter.
I have Settings>Sound & Display>Audible selection "unchecked" and I still get this.
Can anyone help me figure out how to turn this off?
Ok I found it and boy did I have to do some digging. settings>applications>running services>android keyboard>Sound on Keypress = Uncheck.
Can anyone confirm whether the YouTube application works with the update to 2.1?

My emails are showing up in the gmail app at sporadic intervals; sometimes they show up immediately while other times I only receive the email if I refresh within the app itself. I noticed this after I manually did the update last Friday on my Eris. Emails are showing up rather quickly on 3G, but hardly at all on wifi. I'm testing this by sending myself emails to the gmail account from a non-gmail account on the laptop. I saw over in the Moto Droid forum that some users there are experiencing gmail push slowness/problems.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.
I know I'm on ver2. But is it the root? When I downloaded it there was also a recovery that I did not use. Did that screw me for root? Or am I just thinking wrong? Do we know if someone is working on rooting the leak versions? I know a lot of questions. My phone works really well on ver2 and I am afraid to go to ver3 and get the crap everyone else is dealing with, but root would be nice. Now that I have had the time to learn about it and how it works.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBefore i start i just want to say that this worked for me. i do not have multiple eri (plural of eris)to test this on.. so if you want to try it and post your results. i was just playing around with my phone and decided to turn sense off. i was playing around with it and then i decided to try youtube. it worked on every video that i tried (with different users and everything). some background info>> my youtube application has never really worked.. it used to be where i could just try the video a few times and after a few error messages it would work. but now, with sense off, it works perfectly. i just thought i would put that out there so that if youtube was that important to you (because i would rather sense than youtube) then you can turn sense off before you decide you need to file a "law suite".
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm running 2.1v2 (non-root...=() and I've noticed over the past few days that the dialer app doesn't work all the time. On more than one occasion it will ring and when I answer the call, there's no sound, likewise when I place a call, it won't even ring. If it helps, here are the apps I've downloaded and installed:
Dialer One
Handcent
handyCalc
xScope (the paid version)
Barcode Scanner
Compass
Johnson Bubble Level
Metal Detector
I've set my modem slot to 1 but it hasn't fixed the issue, I have disabled haptic feedback and cleared the call log (which is usually pretty empty anyways).
Tried to make a call today and it just sits at dialing and where it usually shows 1x icons its not there, just signal bars and gps icon. I thought reset would fix it but no, tried calling my phone goes to voicemail.
So I backed up my data and used reset in the security settings. Successfully made activation call to *228 and thought the problem is fixed, however when I tried placing call again it just sits at dialing screen for few seconds and ends the call.
My phone "eris" was in my back pocket for about an hour as I was Food shopping. When I took it out It would not come out of Lock screen / sleep state. The Only thing that brought it back to life was taking the battery out and replacing it several times. I did not Sit on the phone or bump it in anyway that might have caused this. Also, when I put it in my pocket, the screen was already locked. This has happened about 4 times in the last week and the phone is just past the 30 day window for a return. On a side note, I recently installed Beautiful Widgets Version 2.85 and have noticed the phone will not go to sleep. I even unchecked the notifications option and chose all the different weather refresh settings, but it still would not sleep. Is this a bug or just the way the program works? By the way, When I say sleep I don't mean clicking the "End" button and locking the screen, But the internal phone "awake time" as found under phone status.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile USB tethering over 3G/4G networks doesn't work unless you pay for the $30/mo hotspot feature (which I still cannot get Sprint to admit is a stupid name since I don't want a hotspot, only tethering, but I digress), you can tether and use the phone's WiFi connection.
Why would you want to? Well, I have a laptop that requires a USB dongle and now I have one less thing to carry. OK, not the best reason, but I found it interesting.
I can only RECIEVE email thru wifi connection (at home or in the office) I cannot get mail thru wireless connection... aka "over the air" it just "spins" and then eventually I get an error message " alert connection timeout" I have tried the followingre-installed my email account HARD RESET (that didn't work and was a major pain in the butt , trying get get everything back to the way I had it) double check settings (POP and SMTP) with my domain host and there tech support I have been to my Sprint store Tech support, spoken w/ Tech support, and now I am reaching out to you

I am doing some xml parsing stuff through Internet. i set the <uses-permission> on my Manifest. it works fine in WI-FI Network. But its not working in the Motorola Droid 2.1 with 3G Network. Is there any more specific stuff to do for 3G network?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using the SSH Tunnel app on a rooted HTC One S which is otherwise stock. It works perfectly on my home wifi network (if I access an ip web page it shows my SSH server's ip).
If I then turn off the tunnel, disconnect from wifi, reconnect over 3g it connects fine, but when I access the same site it shows my phone's IP, not my servers.
Are there any known issues that prevent SSH Tunnel from working on 3G?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use HttpPost to send data from an android device to a server. It works great with a Wifi connection, but I get the IOException "The target server failed to respond" with a Mobile connection (3G, Edge, etc.). It doesn't seem to be a timeout problem (I set it to 90s). The use of HttpGet works perfectly with both Wifi and Mobile connection... Any idea of where the problem could come from?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm away from home without a WiFi connection it seems like nothing works. You Tube, Last FM, eBay and worst of all any of the three different types of Twitter I have. Some of these apps are incredibly slow or others just give up. I've never been able to upload a picture via Twitter using any platform. Really annoying. Seems my Gmail isn't even notifying my anymore.. Have I done something? Is this linked to Orange's notoriously poor set up?
Will rooting my phone help? I'm already running out of space on my phone after downloading what I consider a fairly small number of apps. Why don't they save to, and run off, the SD card?
I now own the Hero for two weeks, but this is the Phone with one of the worst cameras i have seen.I also own a Nokia N95, this one is 100x better.or a phone that claims all in one and one of the latest models, without a flash, cannot claim this. Then they said it is 5MP, i think it is even 1.5mp.My wife has a old Samsung with 1MP, this thing makes even better Photo's then the Hero.It is a crap that i have to buy a program like FX to make better photo's.And yes i know, a phone is to make calls. Then there is the lack of very bad Bluetooth.I hope HTC will fix this soon, or i return the phone. Are there any positives, Yes i like the model and the layout. The touch screen is very good, also the touch keyboard. The phone presumes to be a business one, but at the moment i would not recommend it to my colleagues.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have application that communicates with web server through REST. It works fine on a phone when connected via WiFi but does not work correctly when on 3G.
Not everything stops working. I'm still able to use some functionality but for some reason some calls to rest return "" (empty response) very quickly. Once again when I'm on WiFi everything works fine.
Just to clarify:
1. I have data plan :)
2. Server I'm connecting to is accessible from Internet
I have the Samsung Captivate, and I'm having a bit of an issue with my company's Exchange server. I don't want to sync it with my phone, I prefer to keep my work email separate, but I do occasionally need to use the Outlook Web Access portal on the server. When I'm on any WiFi connection, and I browse to my server's OWA, I get the login prompt, and I can successfully log in and do whatever I need to.
However, when on 3g, I get simply "Access Denied" without a login prompt at all. I've tried rebooting the phone, killing the browser process, clearing the caches in the browser, etc. None of that works. I administer this server myself, and it works with my wife's iphone just fine, as well as other android phones in the office.
I am developing a social Networking application and it works fine over WiFi but tried the same over GPRS it gives following Exception,

There is now a software update available (1.15.405.4) which i have tried to install OTA it all works except it says unable to start WIFI. I have tried to install it with both my Goldcard and normal SD card (not sure if that would make any difference)
I got an HTC Raider on the weekend, and while using the 3G/4G/LTE networks, it's amazing. Super fast and wonderful. Also, generally, while using wifi it's the same thing - fast and works perfectly.
However, when I'm at work, and I connect to the wifi network at my office, it will typically only work for 3 or 4 minutes, and then just stops working. It still displays maximum signal strength, but won't load any page on the internet, and any apps that send/receive data do not work. My work computer is also on the same wifi network and it always works no problem, so I know the wifi network is fine.
I am wondering if there is an app to print from my eris when I am connected to my wifi at home.
