I updated my phone to the official realease 2.1 when it came out and since then I have noticed my battery is not lasting as long as it used to. I was curious what you are seeing when you check your phone idle pertentage. Mine is showing phone idle at 37%. Settings>About Phone>Battery>Battery Use

My battery life on my htc hero has been gradually lasting less and less. when i bought it, around 8 months ago, it lasted a good 2 days without charge. as of now, i cant finish one school day without my phone dying. is this a normal wear and tear effect?

View 12 Replies View RelatedWell, like others have mentioned in this forum, my Droid has started to get noticeably better battery life. I'm definitely lasting the entire day now, and I think I could go longer if I didn't work in a building with spotty reception at best (constantly switching back and forth from 1X to 3G with 1 bar). Conceivably, I'm not installing as many applications on the phone as I did in the first 1-2 weeks of ownership (I'm on week 2.5) so I'm not hitting the battery as much. But, what I'm really wondering about is if you guys think that a background backup process is running during the first few days (and after new app installations) that eats up battery power. Once the Droid reaches a 'steady' state, the backup process isn't running anymore and the Droid can last longer on a single charge. Does this sound reasonable or am I reaching...or just plain wrong. In which case, why is the battery lasting longer into the day. From my recollection, LiIon batteries don't have a memory affect so cycling them in is unnecessary.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was really dissapointed with the performance of my battery in the hero, even when i turn off wifi and stop my apps from using the network it still drains so fast! so, i thought i would try turning off 3G so it uses 2G just to test and see if it makes a big difference..
It does.. Its far better now.. i dont really see a speed difference using 2G either, granted the inetrnet isnt as fast but i dont hammer the internet anyway, only to check a few sites occasionally so i'll put up with a few seconds delay if it boosts my battery performance as much as it does!

View 35 Replies View RelatedI posted a thread about my battery life earlier this week, and I thank all the for the help! Here is another issue I am having that may be related. My phone takes forever to charge. Example: used my phone heavily this morning from 5:30 am till around 9am. Came home, battery was down to 15% or so. Plugged it into the AC charger around 10am, went outside and mowed the yard, etc. Finally checked the phone around 4pm, and it was still charging. Battery was showing 90% or so. Shouldn't it fully charge in around 2 hours or less? I did some research and found some people having charging issues after they upgraded to 2.1, which I did right after I got the phone. I did check with my local RS where I got the phone, and the guy I spoke with has a Hero, and his does not do this. He suggested I go to a Sprint store and have them look at it.

I worked a lot of hours and skipped a coiple before the last one. I flashed the update with a wipe, took 30min. first boot like it was supposed to. Takes 15 every time since. I've not found any mention of this in the forums. Is it just my phone or are there others?

I was on my main Home screen and just trying to figure stuff out and when I long press the menu key it brings up the onscreen keyboard. I figured it was for contact search or something, but it did nothing when I typed...or so I thought. Now everytime I back out to the Home screen a little transparent "window" displays with letters i first typed. I cant type new letters to display or even use the backspace key to erase. Any one know what Im talking about?

View 15 Replies View RelatedToday I took my Sprint HTC Hero to a Sprint store to upgrade to Android 2.1. In my opinion, I don't think it was worth upgrading the software. I really liked the options in 1.5 more especially the camera app. Any way, after getting home, my batter was almost dead. I pluged the micro usb cable into my Hero and attempted to charge it via an a/c charger. It started to charge from 10% slowly but then only went to 22% and stopped and stayed there for 2 hours. The back of my Hero was REALLY hot. I shut off the phone and let it cool and tried again. Same thing happened. I noticed that when you are using the phone and charging it in 2.1, the battery starts to die and it gets hot even quicker.Shutting the phone off and charging didnt help. What did and is still working, is putting the phone in Airplane mode, killing unnecessary running apps/widgets with the Advanced Task Killer by ReChild and then proceding to charge the phone.After leaving it like this for 30 minutes, the back of the phone was no longer hot and the battery percent went up from 22% to 33%, it is continuing to charge now.If you are having this issue, I suggest you use this method to charge your phone until the bug is fixed.This is such a pain because if your using Sprint Navigation in the car and your battery is about to die,you cannot charge it.The phone will remain on after using a car charger to charge it but the battery percent wont increase and it will get really hot.I guess we have to charge the phone before every use from now on? Android 2.1 is a lot of bugs. They made us wait this long for it and they have still failed to fix the major issues that were supposed to be fixed with this update IMO.

The speed has increased, but it's nothing to write home about. I guess I would like to hear from other fresh users to see what you have done to get more speed and better battery life and your overall experience with fresh so far. Don't get me wrong I love the look and it is faster. I'm just wondering if there is more that I can do to make it better?

It will turn on but I have no signal just a x and anytime I try to use almost anything I get a force close error. Everything from trying to dial a number to opening google maps. It seems like almost everything included with the phone will not work. I tried a couple of games just to check and they seem to work ok. Does anyone know how to get my phone working again or if a reset will fix this, or do I need to take it to Sprint? My phone is not rooted and has died before with no ill effects.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA month or so back I started running mine with GPS toggled ON all the time. (For apps to find a lost Hero it seemed the only effective way to find it was if GPS was on). GPS is not powered (or maybe very low powered?) UNLESS the GPS Symbol is showing at top of screen?
I've noticed NO difference in battery life with GPS toggled ON vs OFF over the last month. GPS (when toggled ON) appears to be actually turned on or off by particular Apps that use it.
Anyone? Am I correct?
It seems to be "common knowledge" and I think Android even says to toggle it OFF to save battery life but this seems to be not true?
I DO have an App that does turn GPS on but does NOT turn it off when I exit, which does drain the battery until I manually correct, which could be a problem, but I do see the GPS icon so I know it's on and draining.
OK this might not get answered I was wondering anyone here that has the big ol'extended battery from seido also has maybe a touch pro holster from seido and was wondering if they would fit together?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had my Hero for a few months now and it has been wonderful. However, the other night, the phone wouldn't charge all the way, so I unplugged it, restarted it, and charged it and it charged up to 90% through the night. Last night it only charged up to about 50% give or take. This morning at work, I plugged it in and instead of charging, it got extremely hot and then it died.
This afternoon, I took it to the Sprint store and they put in a new battery and the phone worked again, but it got REALLY hot again. I took it back in and they looked at it again and said the phone has definitely got a problem and the cause of this is water. It has been raining, but I don't recall ever having any water get in the phone - just the occasional rain drop hits the screen and I wipe it off. I never keep it out in the rain. They are saying I'll have to do an insurance claim to replace it because of water damage. They say there are 4 water marks in the phone. I find this so hard to believe and don't like that they want me to spend $100 on a new phone.
Why are there no battery door covers for the sprint hero. What if the cheap volume buttons stop working what are we suppose to do then when that happens. I was looking for battery door covers online and couldn't find one but one that was for an extended door.

I've seen answers from 9 hrs with heavy usage to 36 hours with minimual usage. That's about all the detail I've been able to find. (Maybe I'm just not good at searching?)With that, I decided to do a little tracking of my own. I logged my usage and battery performance over a 27 hour period and thought I'd share it with the community. Not sure if this is even helpful but maybe it'll provide some sort of baseline for others to compare against.I recorded the battery level in % based on the stock battery meter, the time I recorded the battery level and any activity that occured between the current time and the previous time recording. For example, between 7:00AM and 10:19AM the battery dropped by 10% and I had received 2 emails, 2 calendar reminders went off and I had surfed the web for about 10 minutes.
