Sprint HTC Hero :: Track With GPS In Phone?
Jan 16, 2010Midwest here again. Since I was brave enough to post a message about PDAnet, I figured I would ask this as well. I never had a phone with GPS in it before. Can people track my location? Can I turn this "tracking" off should I wish? And is there an easy way to check for it in the phone: Sprint Hero by HTC.

Nov 11, 2010I was using CM6 and it had an option that i could unlock the phone by double pressing the menu button or by pressing the trackball. Now I am back to Darchdroid v2.8 because i like it way better than froyo, but the only way to unlock the phone is by sliding the screen icon. Is there a way to re-enable that menu/trackball way of unlocking the phone? I am using launcherpro 8.1 as home screen, not sure if that makes a difference.

Nov 12, 2009I was experiencing the poor battery life and have effectively implemented the work-around that includes disabling the stock Messages app. and installing and using a 3rd-party SMS app., Handcent. The work-around appears to be fully effective for me so far, so thanks to those who helped communicate it here on the forum (you know who you all are). I've noticed though, that when charging, my wake time percentage is in the 80th percentile, indicating that it's not fully sleeping while charging in an A/C outlet. First question: Does the phone not sleep while being charged? Second question: If not, can someone please provide some suggestions of things to look at that might be interfering with sleeping while being charged?

Jun 10, 2010I posted a thread about my battery life earlier this week, and I thank all the for the help! Here is another issue I am having that may be related. My phone takes forever to charge. Example: used my phone heavily this morning from 5:30 am till around 9am. Came home, battery was down to 15% or so. Plugged it into the AC charger around 10am, went outside and mowed the yard, etc. Finally checked the phone around 4pm, and it was still charging. Battery was showing 90% or so. Shouldn't it fully charge in around 2 hours or less? I did some research and found some people having charging issues after they upgraded to 2.1, which I did right after I got the phone. I did check with my local RS where I got the phone, and the guy I spoke with has a Hero, and his does not do this. He suggested I go to a Sprint store and have them look at it.

I was on my main Home screen and just trying to figure stuff out and when I long press the menu key it brings up the onscreen keyboard. I figured it was for contact search or something, but it did nothing when I typed...or so I thought. Now everytime I back out to the Home screen a little transparent "window" displays with letters i first typed. I cant type new letters to display or even use the backspace key to erase. Feb 9, 2010I'm finding that I'm part way through a track and then all of a sudden it moves to the next track! The screen is locked so it's nothing like that. It only seems to be happening since I moved to an 8GB SD card. I copied all my files over to it and everything else seems to be working ok. Oct 27, 2009Over the last week or so I've been obsessed with trying to get my hero into sleep mode, in order to save battery. For those who don't know about this, there are many threads around the net telling of a fix for the messages bug, which prevents the phone entering sleep. It's supposed to reduce CPU usage, thus saving battery.
Now, I've followed the methods of many people who claim to have done this successfully, down to a tee, but for the life of me, I can't get it to work. For some reason my awake time is always at 100%. It's now at the pont of driving me mad, and I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried and failed to do the fix. If anyone needs background info on this problem, I'll post a link up later, as I'm sending this via my phone at the minute.
HTC Hero :: Sleep Mode And Alarm
May 26, 2010Recently moved from a very old Nokia into the 21st century and got a hero last week. Of course i cant stop playing with it and love it, but i may have altered some settings which i wonder if anyone can help me with;before, when the phone was on and i pressed the power button once, it went into sleep mode. Now it doesn't. Any ideas why?the alarm on the clock is silent. Obviously a bit of a problem in the mornings! Any idea why?

Aug 7, 2009I'm trying to use the in-built Media app but am finding it rather poor for two main reasons.
One is that it scans my entire SD card for music to play, which I really don't want it to do as it finds my podcasts downloaded by acast and the tags in those MP3 files are all over the place so make a mess of the Music Player lists. I've tried adding a .nomedia file to the podcast directory as suggested on another site but HTC's app doesn't pay any attention to that.
The second issue is that despite my files having MP3 track number tags, the Music Player app usually ignores those and sorts the tracks into alphabetical order which just doesn't work for a lot of my albums. It's not consistent with sorting, e.g. if I pick an album off the Albums list the tracks are in order and play in order in the track list for that album so I can hit the first track and it plays in order, but if I go back up to the albums screen and add the whole album to a playlist, sometimes it puts the tracks in order, other times it re-orders them in alphabetical order of track name. If I go to a particular artist or composer and select an album, it normally sorts the tracks by alphabetical order this time instead of tagged track order.. This is all with the same album too so it's not that some albums have track number ID3 tags and others don't.
I copy the MP3s across the USB link, I'm not using HTC Sync as it won't run on my desktop computer (a linux box), so I don't know if HTC Sync can help out here or not.
HTC Hero :: Violet Screen When Coming Out Of Sleep
Aug 15, 2010So sometimes when I come out of sleep (<<< EDIT: when the phone comes out of sleep :P) , screen goes well opens violet. Like darker and more contrast. (its not the brightness I have a blue desktop and it gets violet) In every screen even if I run an app. Didnt try some fullscreen game with landscape change and I will include pics. Maybe even try if shoot me catches something. But I doubt its software. Suspecting its setcpu(when sleep set 160/240) or the new launcherpro? nedamdam's Apps on the phone.

Nov 7, 2009I downloaded Locale recently and it looks like a good app. I have set it to turn on my Wifi shortly before I get up in the morning to allow it to download some files (Guardian App and hopefully some podcasts). I've set Guardian to only download the newspaper via Wifi. For some reason Locale doesn't seem to be able to switch the Wifi on unless I awake the phone from sleep. I've been into the Wifi sleep policy Setting menu on the Hero and set it to never. Any ideas why it's not working?

HTC Hero :: SMS Lag On Long Conversations
Aug 10, 2009Anyone else experiencing problems with long SMS conversations (20+ messages)? Firstly it seems that intermittently I cannot scroll back through the conversation. If I exit the conversation and go back to it enough times it'll eventually allow me to scroll through.Additionally, when composing a message on a long conversation the keyboard suffers quite bad lag.Is this just me and has anyone found a fix?
