View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I took my Sprint HTC Hero to a Sprint store to upgrade to Android 2.1. In my opinion, I don't think it was worth upgrading the software. I really liked the options in 1.5 more especially the camera app. Any way, after getting home, my batter was almost dead. I pluged the micro usb cable into my Hero and attempted to charge it via an a/c charger. It started to charge from 10% slowly but then only went to 22% and stopped and stayed there for 2 hours. The back of my Hero was REALLY hot. I shut off the phone and let it cool and tried again. Same thing happened. I noticed that when you are using the phone and charging it in 2.1, the battery starts to die and it gets hot even quicker.Shutting the phone off and charging didnt help. What did and is still working, is putting the phone in Airplane mode, killing unnecessary running apps/widgets with the Advanced Task Killer by ReChild and then proceding to charge the phone. After leaving it like this for 30 minutes, the back of the phone was no longer hot and the battery percent went up from 22% to 33%, it is continuing to charge now.If you are having this issue, I suggest you use this method to charge your phone until the bug is fixed. This is such a pain because if your using Sprint Navigation in the car and your battery is about to die,you cannot charge it.The phone will remain on after using a car charger to charge it but the battery percent wont increase and it will get really hot.I guess we have to charge the phone before every use from now on? Android 2.1 is a lot of bugs. They made us wait this long for it and they have still failed to fix the major issues that were supposed to be fixed with this update IMO.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, I rooted and installed fresh 1.1 a few days ago. The question I have is how is everyone getting better battery life, because mine has not changed, even a little? The speed has increased, but it's nothing to write home about. I guess I would like to hear from other fresh users to see what you have done to get more speed and better battery life and your overall experience with fresh so far. Don't get me wrong I love the look and it is faster. I'm just wondering if there is more that I can do to make it better?

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy phones battery died last night and now my phone can do almost nothing. It will turn on but I have no signal just a x and anytime I try to use almost anything I get a force close error. Everything from trying to dial a number to opening google maps. It seems like almost everything included with the phone will not work. I tried a couple of games just to check and they seem to work ok. Does anyone know how to get my phone working again or if a reset will fix this, or do I need to take it to Sprint? My phone is not rooted and has died before with no ill effects.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA month or so back I started running mine with GPS toggled ON all the time. (For apps to find a lost Hero it seemed the only effective way to find it was if GPS was on). GPS is not powered (or maybe very low powered?) UNLESS the GPS Symbol is showing at top of screen?
I've noticed NO difference in battery life with GPS toggled ON vs OFF over the last month. GPS (when toggled ON) appears to be actually turned on or off by particular Apps that use it.
Anyone? Am I correct?
It seems to be "common knowledge" and I think Android even says to toggle it OFF to save battery life but this seems to be not true?
I DO have an App that does turn GPS on but does NOT turn it off when I exit, which does drain the battery until I manually correct, which could be a problem, but I do see the GPS icon so I know it's on and draining.
OK this might not get answered I was wondering anyone here that has the big ol'extended battery from seido also has maybe a touch pro holster from seido and was wondering if they would fit together?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had my Hero for a few months now and it has been wonderful. However, the other night, the phone wouldn't charge all the way, so I unplugged it, restarted it, and charged it and it charged up to 90% through the night. Last night it only charged up to about 50% give or take. This morning at work, I plugged it in and instead of charging, it got extremely hot and then it died.
This afternoon, I took it to the Sprint store and they put in a new battery and the phone worked again, but it got REALLY hot again. I took it back in and they looked at it again and said the phone has definitely got a problem and the cause of this is water. It has been raining, but I don't recall ever having any water get in the phone - just the occasional rain drop hits the screen and I wipe it off. I never keep it out in the rain. They are saying I'll have to do an insurance claim to replace it because of water damage. They say there are 4 water marks in the phone. I find this so hard to believe and don't like that they want me to spend $100 on a new phone.
Why are there no battery door covers for the sprint hero. What if the cheap volume buttons stop working what are we suppose to do then when that happens. I was looking for battery door covers online and couldn't find one but one that was for an extended door.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been searching all over this forum as well as the internet on how people are using their HERO and the battery performance they're getting out of it. I've seen answers from 9 hrs with heavy usage to 36 hours with minimual usage. That's about all the detail I've been able to find. (Maybe I'm just not good at searching?)With that, I decided to do a little tracking of my own. I logged my usage and battery performance over a 27 hour period and thought I'd share it with the community. Not sure if this is even helpful but maybe it'll provide some sort of baseline for others to compare against.I recorded the battery level in % based on the stock battery meter, the time I recorded the battery level and any activity that occured between the current time and the previous time recording. For example, between 7:00AM and 10:19AM the battery dropped by 10% and I had received 2 emails, 2 calendar reminders went off and I had surfed the web for about 10 minutes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI updated my phone to the official realease 2.1 when it came out and since then I have noticed my battery is not lasting as long as it used to. I was curious what you are seeing when you check your phone idle pertentage. Mine is showing phone idle at 37%. Settings>About Phone>Battery>Battery Use
View 12 Replies View RelatedEverything is turned off that is suppose to drain the battery. I only have one widget the htc one that originally came with the phone it has a huge clock and a weather update if u don't know what widget this is. But that's it I know the Internet, upstream etc drain battery life but when I'm not doing these things the battery feels short my screen timeout is for 1 minute. I just feel my battery life Drains to fast and I don't know why.
View 21 Replies View RelatedAt complete fault of my own in a move I should have known better than to do, my phone decided to hang out for a few minutes on the bottom of my oven, face up, while it was on at 375F. The phone is actually surprisingly great - everything still works, makes calls, cam and rear speaker seem unaffected - but the back battery cover is messed up now. Because I'm optimistic and dumb, I went to Sprint to see if I could get a replacement door from them. No go. Then I checked HTC's website, and they don't seem to sell anything for this phone at all (exaggeration). Ultimately I plan to wrap my Hero in one of those jelly cases, but I already own one and I'm away on vacation and refuse to by another. Still, despite being wrapped up incognito, I'll be secretly bothered by my less-than-perfect phone, so I really want to order another one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI stumbled upon a new wi-fi setting yesterday that is fairly hidden and not mentioned in the manual at all, so I though I'd share it here.
First, a little background and explanation, then I will share my new findings with you all. It has been confirmed in other threads that the wi-fi radio uses considerably less power than the EV-DO 3G radio in the Hero. When you think about it, it's actually pretty simple because the signal only has to travel 100 or so feet for wi-fi, vs. several miles for the 3G radio. Whenever I'm at home or anywhere else with wi-fi, I always switch the wi-fi radio on, and have found that the battery lasts much longer. Whenever the phone is awake, and you're actively connected to a wi-fi network, it seems to shut the EV-DO radio down completely and rely solely on the wi-fi data for data. This has been confirmed as true, because there are some programs out there (i.e. Sprint TV) where you have to turn wi-fi off, because they will only access with the EV-DO radio. You obviously want to turn the wi-fi off whenever there are no networks around, because it will actively search for networks whenever it is on, and will run the battery down.
So, I noticed every time I would wake my phone up after I hadn't used it for a while, it would be using the EV-DO radio, and would take a few seconds to re-connect to my wi-fi network. I couldn't quite figure out why the phone would revert back to EV-DO when sleeping, then connect back to wi-fi only after waking the phone back up. Yesterday, I stumbled upon a new menu I hadn't seen before where you can change this behavior. Check this out.
Menu->Settings->Wireless Controls->Wi-Fi Settings->Press Menu Again->Advanced->Wi-Fi Sleep Policy
The description for this menu reads "Specify when to switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data."
Within this menu, there are three options.
"When screen turns off."
"Never when plugged in."
"Never."
The default setting is "When screen turns off." So, even with wi-fi enabled, whenever the screen turns off, your phone automatically reverts back to the EV-DO radio. As we all know, your phone is still transmitting data a good portion of the time, even when you're not using it. So, even with wi-fi turned on, the phone is still using the 3G radio to communicate while the screen is off.
I switched this menu setting to "Never" as of last night. This forces the phone to always use wi-fi whenever it is turned on, and you are connected to a network. Since then, whenever I wake up my phone it is still showing the wi-fi icon, and I haven't seen the EV-DO icon at all like I used to see for the first several seconds.
I was at home most of the day today, connected to my wi-fi network. I left the house twice for probably about 2 hours total, and I switched off wi-fi both times I left the house. I used the phone fairly lightly today, since we had a family day, but that still consisted of a good bit of browsing, some email usage, light texting, reading twitter updates every two hours, and half an hour playing a video game. Also, I always leave my GPS switched on as it never activates unless I open a program that requires it, and it always switches back off after I'm done. I took the phone off the charger at 9:30 this morning, and it is now 11:50 pm as I'm typing this. So, we're looking at over 14 hours today. The phone hasn't touched a charger since this morning, and I am sitting at 52% battery life, and I'm about to plug the phone in and go to bed.
I have never seen anywhere near this kind of battery life at the end of the day. I am usually below 15% after this kind of usage. I'm not sure if this was just a freak day, or what, but I really believe changing this one setting had a profound affect (effect?) on my battery life.
I know there are thousands of posts on this forum discussing how to improve the overall battery life of the Hero. Most people advise others to root the phone or buy a larger battery. However, most people forget that there's a lot you can do without taking such drastic measures. I've found that simple lifestyle changes here and there can turn into huge power savers for your Hero. So here's my quick guide on how to maintain a battery charge.
NOTE: Take all of these tips with a grain of salt. None are guaranteed to drastically boost battery life individually, but the gains will be noticeable the more steps you utilize.
1. Use the Best App for the Job. The stock apps that come with your Hero may do the job, but many have bugs and issues that place a severe strain on your battery. See this post to find a comprehensive list of alternative apps (as well as some must-have advice) that may help to improve the overall efficiency of your phone..................
How much life on your hero do you get on average out of a full charge? Please do not reply as this is intended to be a poll only.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst, I've got to give credit to the other post for figuring out the main reason for the short battery life I was getting. If you're already getting good battery life - ignore this post.It only took me two months to figure it out (I had this phone since the pre-release Friday from Best Buy), but the main culprit was the HTC clock with weather widget (or the TWC app). By process of elimination I tried literally everything but ultimately figured out that it was either the default HTC clock widget w/ weather or the "The Weather Channel" widget, or both. I got rid of both and my battery life has improved dramatically.I used to unhook my phone charger at 6:30 a.m. and my battery would be less than 15% by 5 p.m. with moderate use (few texts, few calls of 5 minutes each, and three emails pulling every 15 minutes). I tried lengthening the time interval to an hour for email pulling, changed the "default" mail account to my yahoo account from my activesync exchange account, unchecked "always on mobile", "background data" sync for google, no gps, no wifi, etc. but still couldn't last a 15 hour day without the battery dying. I did the SMS fix, got the MR update and still got crappy battery life despite never exceeding 18% awake time. Finally, last night I got rid of the HTC default widget clock w/ weather as well as the weather channel widget and today I went through 15 hours with heavy usage (more calls, longer calls, more text messages, and more emails than normal) and still at 30%.While this isn't earth shattering, it is a significant improvement than before. Hope this helps somebody.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've searched on here, but none of the threads really answered my question post the 2.1 second upgrade. Which widgets use battery life even during sleep mode/when the homescreen ISN'T actively being displayed? I was under the impression that homescreen widgets don't load until you swipe to that homescreen (except for Twitter of course). The Facebook and YouTube widgets always load up with new status updates and videos recommended for me after I turn my phone from sleep mode. These widgets are all on one screen, so if I wake my phone up and swipe to the screen with Facebook and Youtube, they will show facebook status updates that say like updated 2 mins ago and Youtube will have the slideshow going of videos recommended for me. Also, does the official HTC battery widget cause high battery drain? I may to look at my friend's Droid at work and see how he gets 2 days of battery life. He doesn't seem like he would lie about it, and says when he uses the web it dies fast. However, he did say that it pulls his email automatically for him so he must not be turning 3G off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy battery charges 2x faster now than before the update last week. Today I when I got off work, my battery was at 30% (lots of usage during and work in a plant). I put my phone on the charger at 5:30 pm. It's now 6:34 pm and my battery is at 98% charged. I'm using the standard charge provided by HTC.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've noticed a few people have had the same problem. Notice to charge your phone, check battery usage and it says "camera a million percent." Best advice so far is to turn your phone off then back on and it goes away. But this happens every time I use my camera. Am I gonna have to turn off my phone every time I'm done with the camera or is there a way to make this stop happening? It's only a recent problem too. When I got the phone a few weeks ago, I had no problems. If the battery was low and I checked why it'd show display and cell standby and phone idle. It's just been the last few days that it started showing the camera.
BTW when I press on it (where it says "camera a million percent") for more details it says "turn off GPS" why do I need to turn of GPS to make my camera stop draining the battery or is that totaly unrelated advice?
Are battery apps accurate because I get diff readings from the phone then the app. Also does the battery app waste battery life when checking it frequently.
