Using Task Killer and it closes all the apps works most of the time. I check TK every few often and there are tons of apps running, like settings, music, myspace, etc even though I never opened them. Is this the norm or why doesn't Android handle the phone management more smoothly.

I noticed that if i dont use the app to kill running apps after i exit them they are still running in the background is this normal for the Android? I am coming from Pre so not sure if they are killed when exited.

I am a heavy user with about 70 texts, 20-30 emails per day, 1-1.5hour phone usage, occasional web surfing (1-1.5hour), listening to music (30min morning + 30min evening), GPS on all the time (but no GPS using apps running), Facebook and Sense. I didn't turn on Bluetooth or Wifi or 4G. This is a typical day for me. With this kind of usage my battery easily lasts the whole day and well into the night.
I constantly see the same apps opening throughout the day. I think I have narrowed it down to when I get a text message it opens up a few other things. I have installed Handcent and disabled the stock message app i think. I have closed all apps and recieved a text and here is what opens everytime. Voice Dialer, com.coremobility.app.vnotes, sprint navigation, and still the Messages app opens even though it comes through Handcent.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have checked for related threads to see if this was formerly addressed. It's been discussed generally, but neither specifically to the CDMA HTC Hero or the procedure I'm going to summarize below:
If you press:
Home --> and hold it for a couple of seconds
You get pictures (icons) of the last six apps you've run.
I was in the Sprint store today and the rep who also uses the HTC Hero told me there's an App that stops them, which can be downloaded at the Android Market.
It's called " Kill-Something? "
It's an App we can download that will force these off and perhaps save battery power, or at least stop them from running in the background.
Questions
1) Anyone know the name of this App?
2) Is it useful? Have you had any experiences with it either positive or negative?
3) Any other tips (in layman terms please) on stopping Apps from running in the background on Sprint HTC Hero?
Is there any way to slide between screens while keeping my yahoo email, instant messaging, etc open. Instead of having to click on the home key and choosing the individual app?
I've chosen the social scene in my settings because it leaves a page open for IM & email but I'm wondering if its possible to customize a NONrooted phone to keep more "pages/screens" open, like facebook kept open or the web browser?
I tried firmware update too and said there's nothing. My brother has the Hero too and I remember last week I believe he told me this update showed up on his notifications bar at the top, and I had no idea what he was talking about. Assuming that was the .6 OTA, why didn't anything show up on mine? Also, if in case I did get it, how do I know?

View 24 Replies View RelatedHow do I jump between running/open apps? Yesterday I was playing spades and chatting with a friend on google talk. It was terrible. I could not jump between the game and the chat. I had to hit home button, then menu then Google talk, to go back to spades I could hold the down home button and jump back to spades from the popup window. I could not do this with google talk from spades because google talk was not in the recently opened apps popup window.

I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?

Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
I already had one to replace the one that it comes with at home so I didn't have Sprint open it to replace it. I forgot to ask as well.I've searched online and the "chin" hero seems to have a little dent where you can prop it open. The Sprint Hero looks pretty solid... but I know you have to open it to replace the SD card so my question is how do I do it without ruining the molding?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering about apps that are a little more than battery power monitors. I'd like something that will show me the apps that are running and taking up the most memory and causing the biggest power drains on my phone.
Something that would log this so I could look it over during the week and get an overall view and make decisions on what to keep and what to erase.
I'm thinking something that would show me what apps I used, how long they were running, how much memory they took up, how much battery power was used, etc.
Is there such an app out there? I'm wanting to look at the differences between the free apps and paid apps to see if it makes a difference also.
I'm running a Sprint GN2 currently 4.1.2. I haven't gotten the update yet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis afternoon, I wiped my phone and am starting from scratch. Lock 2.0 was giving me some issues and with all the installing and uninstalling of app's I've been doing in the past couple of weeks, I just decided to start with a fresh slate.
Before I back and download Lock 2.0 again, I wanted to inquire with others out there on their experience with the App. I love it, but I wasn't sure if I didn't set it up correctly or I didn't understand how the app worked because it never did replace the default lock screen after I installed and configured it. I always had to manually launch it, unlock the screen and then it would take over.
Not exactly what I had in mind for my money. Was thinking it was a full replacement for the default lock screen. Maybe I didn't read the fine print well enough.
Also, what's been the experience with Open Home on the Sprint Hero?
I'll come clean and admit I'm a Mac super-user stuck without an iPhone (I love Sprint!!). I carry my iPod touch and my Hero with me pretty much everywhere. I am LOVING my Hero though! It does exactly what I wanted it to.
I like to get in and customize to the nth degree, but not at the expense of crappy app's that mess up my stuff.
I am about to get my Hero back and was wondering if Open Home & Sense UI played nice together? Will I get to use Open Home & HTC Widgets? I have been using it on my Moment, but not sure if I even need it with my hero, just want to be able to use different icons & skins. Would I be better with Pandahome or DX?

I go to manage applications and then I try to sort by running but I see no order of which apps are running and the only ones I know that are running are the ones that say force quit. Is this correct? If so, is there any other way to easily find out which apps are running. Is there a way to sort them and be able to find the running applications without having to manually clicking on each app? I have tons of things on this thing and it takes forever to do this.

I mean, i open an app and when i'm finished with the app then click the "back" button or the "home button" to open another app, but seems when i long-press the "home" button, previous apps are still open... the only thing that sort of close all the apps when i turn off & on the phone. how do you close apps?

We are both unable to see pictures sent to us as part of an email (like pictures in a joke). And she is unable to open pictures as email attachments in her Yahoo acct. View 1 Replies View RelatedAll of the tickets are electronic tickets (pdf) saved in my gmail, and I thought I would be able to open up the files and just let them scan my phone. Yet when I tried to open the file, it pulled up the PDF viewer app and then told me it wasn't able to open it. Why is this? I also just tried saving the attachment to my sd card from the gmail app and open it from there, but I couldn't figure out how to save an attachment from an email to my phone. Any help here would be great.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have used the stock sms, Chomp sms, and handcent sms and they all seem to have the same problem. I can send a pic through them, but when the person responds to the text, its says download, I press that and its unable to DL it says. My friend sent a pic twice on handcent, the same one, and it came through the second time only. Sometimes no pic will work at all. With hancent it resizes automatic, thats great, but still the same issue. Man I love everything about this phone but this is really annoying.

I have searched and haven't found any solution to this problem. I have done a soft reset (battery out for 3 minutes) but it still happens. I'm going to call Sprint to see if they know what is up.
