I kill all apps and make a call and when I end the call i open the advanced task killer program and it shows the messaging program opened. Anyone know why this is or how I could prevent it? I know its not a huge deal but if i can prevent it I'd like to.

Whats the scoop behind which one is really better? The stock messaging app or aftermarket apps (handcent and chomp). I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter pretty much a day of doing nothing on the phone except a few texts (GPS and WIFI were on all day), I got home and started playing with the phone. It got SOOOOOOOOOO slow (and I'm not nitpicking, I'm talking WinMo-hang-slowness....believe me, I understand a little bit of lag, but this was insane!) so I checked the Applications and Manage Applications. Now I know everyone's first answer is "get a task manager, etc" but I am not going to give into that, because I believe it'll cause more problems, or at least potential for more problems, by adding more variables to the equation if something goes wrong. I was looking at some of the applications that seem to be using quite a bit of RAM/ROM and had a question for the community:
The biggest 3 applications were:
Mail - 34.80 MB (34.25 MB Data + 556 KB Cache) and using 6.78 MB Ram
Contacts Storage - 4.09 MB total (all data) and 11.56 MB RAM
com.android.providers.calendar - 2.78 MB total (all data) and 11.02 RAM
What does everyone else's look like? I know I'm not going to be touching the Contacts Storage or com.android.providers.calendar stuff, but what happens if I clear my data and cache in mail? I have it hooked to an Exchange Server at work. What exactly gets cleared, and will that help with any of my lag? Do these numbers look pretty representative of everyone else's?
So I removed a widget and then went back to put it back on and got the msg there wasn't room. I played around a bit moving and removing items to make room. I learned that while there doesn't seem to be room for the widget, there is room for the "program" for the same app/function.So now I'm wondering, what is the difference between these three?Will one result in more or less battery drain? Is the widget quicker to launch it's program equivalent?Should I avoid placing one type on the home page?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI wasn't able to find anything on this after a cursory search, but it seems like my music player sometimes kicks in when the screen is off and the phone is stowed in my pocket. I can't seem to recreate the behavior predictably by playing with any buttons, though, so I'm not sure what's triggering it.
I have the new HTC Hero on Sprint.
Any ideas what might be causing this behavior, or how I can stop it? It's pretty embarrassing, and I'm nervous to go into a theatre with the phone at all now, even when it is on silent. Even short of the music player, more often the phone will wake from screen-off with some other page up front (not the main home page, but one of the other views like the home page, the ones you get to by flicking right or left from the home page...
I am running Freshrom 2.1D. I would like to replace the Sense Email with the Droid Email client. I have the Droid email apk, but it won't install. I assume it is conflicting with the default mail client.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI switched my SMS to Handcent to resolve the battery issue. The tutorial I followed recommended reinstalling Hero's battery after doing all the software stuff. I took this to mean "take it out and put it back in." Well, I did that and it worked for the battery issue, but when I went to my "all programs" a bunch of my apps were listed twice (facebook, some games, etc). I dragged and removed the extra apps but every time I come back to all programs, they are still listed twice. Weird, I know. This isn't a drastic problem, but it is annoying esp if it keeps happening to additional programs.

If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

Now, when I hit the back button to go to the home screen the screen turns black with the HTC text like it does at boot up. This happens every time I leave an application. I am rooted at the moment though I have not done anything else other than that. Should I reset this to factory specs? Also the headset jack is not detecting earphones which it was up until today.

I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?

NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
Haven't been able to find any programs or info on being able to link my Spring Hero up to my Apple PowerBook to sync with my contact list, address book, and calendar. Are there any programs out there for this? I suppose I can do it the long way, and do some sort of export to my windows laptop, but would like to avoid this step if possible.
I looked long and hard at the iPhone vs. the Hero, and decided the Hero, besides having the obvious battery removal and SD expansion capabilities, would be open to more programs potential because of the open-source, linux-style OS.
I'm hoping that as time goes by, programs will be written to allow syncing with Apple computers, and OS X. It's hard to believe that almost nothing has been written in the forums on this subject. Please point me to any topics along this thread, or others in other forums if you know of them.
Is there any programs in to sync the droid to a Linux desktop?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI love my sprint hero, but am on the fence about sprint itself tons of people have told me how they hated sprints service, customer service, etc..my wife and I thought the ability to send pics via messaging is a cool feature however it doesn't appear to work all that well.have tried the built in and also handcent messaging. am connected currently via my wifi at home and that doesn't help either. i realize there are probably size restrictions ( size anyone) but it should work sometimes.also the voice record feature on handsentend feature doesn't work either.

Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Handcent because of the battery drain issue, and like it a lot, but now I cannot turn off the OEM Messages program. I tried going into the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to turn it off, and it doesn't work. I also did the "Use Handcent as default SMS" when that box first pops up. I get two different ringtone notifications too. Although I switched the ringer to the same one both through the phone's settings and through Handcent's settings.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning and had texts from multiple people wishing me a merry Christmas. When I finally came around I decided to send a mass text message out to all my friends and family. I started trying to link people by using COMPOSE >MENU>PEOPLE and thought to myself "wow I thought I had more friends than this...i'm a loser." Then I went and checked my phonebook and realized that the messaging service is not linking to all my contacts in my phone book.
Anyone else have this issue. Or any ideas on how to fix it? It sucks cause I had to go through and type the first few letters of each for it to pop up, instead of just clicking the contact name like usual. I started using the stock messaging app last week when I had a lot of issues with Handcent. Once i switched I saved alot of battery for some reason.
I am getting a forced close error everytime I try to remove the HTC Messaging widget from one of my screens. I tap and hold down on the widget to select it so I can move it to the "remove" button at the bottom of the screen. Well when I tap and hold I get a forced error close message. Any ideas what I need to do to correct this issue. I'm using the original messaging app, and only have 3 other non related apps downloaded.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen im texting someone, it stays in threading mode, which is fine. When i hit home or whatever to get out of messaging, whenever i get another text, lets say its from another person. I can pull down my notification bar, click the new text, and it just opens up the text i was last in. I think its weird how it wont open the next text message, possibly because the app was running in the background the whole time?
