I bought a Hero in April of this year. I have tried to download the firmware update 2.1 but my phone says there isn't an update available.I'm currently running version 1.5, software version 1.56.651.2.I have tried to update the firmware through my computer (Macbook) but the files are Windows programs.Any advise?

I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I
I have rooted my phone, backed up with android, and installed the darchstar 2.8 ROM.I love the senseless UI and am really glad that I did it.The only problem is I cannot find the Market app.I have downloaded the Google Shits file but I have been unable to install it.Can someone point me in the right direction so I can get access to the market?

I have a nandroid backup of several roms where I had it installed, can I copy it over to this ROM somehow? And why can't it install it? Is it protected?
might be a dumb question, but I don't wanna do the fw update on my fresh 2.1.2 hero, if it's going to break root. I'm guessing not but want to be sure.

So after seeing people were posting on here about the PRL update on 7/28 I went to go hit the PRL update under Settings > System updates. To my surprise it will not let me do the PRL update. I keep hitting the button and nothing happens. I tried the same thing for the Firmware and Profile updates and nothing happens when I press the buttons. The only one that works is the HTC software update. I tried turning my phone on and off and the same thing still happens. Have not tried a reset yet.

I can't use a backup utility, because well, if I try to restore anytime recently, the same issue exists. I am completely confused as to what made this happen and how to fix it. I would rather not wipe the phone to factory defaults.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo one issue I am starting to have is major problems with the HTC Mail client. It does not update no matter what I set the check new mail frequency interval to. It will maybe check it once, then after that I have to manually check for e-mail. That's useless to me. I have tried re adding the account many times. I have even re set the phone back to factory settings. Notifications also work intermittently as well. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm hoping I am not alone. Should I just use the built in GMaill app? (yes it's a gmail account). What do all you guys use? Any thoughts?

View 19 Replies View RelatedI just got a Captivate and upgraded to the leaked 2.2 update.Since I updated, gameloft apps(specifically Asphalt 5 HD) will no longer show up in the market.I have tried going to gameloft directly and even directly to the download page but it states that there is no such app.Again, I could find all gameloft apps before my update.I've also had other apps show up and when I click, the download page can't be found.is this because the apps are not compatible with 2.2?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated the firmware on my HTC Hero some time ago from Modaco to Firmware 1.5.I just got an N1, so I restored the Hero to give to my wife, and the next thing I noticed is there was no Google Maps. I went in to the Market and again...I couldn't even pull it in a search even though I pulled it in searches on my N1.
Does anyone know what's up here? Do I need to upgrade my firmware? If so, does anyone have a link to the install?
i have a few questions,the first,is rom update and firmware two diffrent things?just got the htc hero on orange uk and tried to download the rom update for orange and it said my phone wasnt applicable,fair enough if its up to date but then some applications say i need a updated firmware,if this is a diffrent thing,how do i update it as there is no link on the actual phone as would be on other phones and cant find any such link on the site to download it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the HTC Hero/T-Mobile G2 Touch and I still do not have the latest firmware 2.1 update on it. I've got as far as changing the year to 2013 and it brings up the request to update the phone. I select to update it and it turns off my phone to install.
It then loads but stops half-way and it just shows a white triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle with an image of a phone underneath. The update does not continue from there. I've tried it at least 4 times and it's done the same every time.
just updated my Htc hero (GSM) firmware 1.5 to 2.1 through the system settings>update without Rooting it ;( Now it wont go ahead of boot screen, just hangs on the hero screen
1) Tried removing battery/sdcard didn work
2) Recovery mode - It is showing me a Hero with a triangle having " ! " mark
3) In System recovery utiltity (home+power)
- tried wipe data, it works
- but when i try apply sdcard:update.zip -> E:cant open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file/directory).Installation Failed
it also shows me this error : E:can't open/cache/recovery/command
