I transferred contacts from my old phone (Samsung Instinct). One of the numbers was a voicemail for another location. On the Instinct you put in the numbers with a pause in the string which allowed you to delay entry of saved access codes until the right time. Is there a way to do this on the Hero?

My brother had a VOyager that he transferred his contacts to the Droid X with Verizon's contacts manager. Now I'm just wondering how do we sync the contacts on the phone to his gmail account because they're not showing up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed when I go into my address book that phone numbers appear as (XXX) XXXXXXX. The number for text messages appear as (XXX) XXX-XXXX. Has anyone else seen the dash being left off for home / work / mobile numbers? Not a big deal.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to take a phone number from my call log and edit it to be added to a contact without typing it by hand. On my Sprint Katana, when you clicked on the phone number in the call log, you had the choice to edit or append the number. On my Hero, when I press on the phone number, it calls it? Am I missing a step, or not holding the press long enough? I have searched and read as many as come up under a search, but I can't find any that address it from the call log issue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that in the People app, the phone numbers are formatted like this: (xxx) yyyzzzz but phone numbers that are used in message fields such as "Send Message" are formatted (xxx) yyy-zzzz. Is there any way to have the phone numbers formatted using the dash? Why, you ask? Because it's easier to read when you are looking up a phone number to give to someone; and I'm old, so don't laugh at me! GMail's contacts formats them all with a dash, but I can't find a way to make the Hero do so.

I am assuming so by the way the manual is written. I have tried to follow the instructions on page 34 of the manual "adding a number to an entry in People". Step 2 directions do not exist. "Tap ADD>PHONE". I do not see that as an option. Am I missing something?
View 3 Replies View RelatedBecause of several issues with SE sync, I am trying to use Google sync instead. However, this is also not working as expected: I wished to have all my phone contacts transferred from the phone to Gmail contact list. I started with an empty Gmail contact list. I enabled Google sync as described on the SE website. I don't know exactly what it does, but I also enabled Settings -> Data synchro -> Gmail (perhaps related to my e-mails?)
Result: Calendar syncs without problem. Contacts do not transfer from phone to Gmail
Second trial: I created a new contact "A" on GmailI created a new contact "B" on the phoneI ran sync
Result: Contact "A" synced successfully from Gmail to phone. No sync of contact "B" from phone to Gmail.
Third trial: I modified contact "A" on the phoneI ran sync
Result: The modification done on the phone did not sync to Gmail
Hints from the phone: When I try using Google sync for calendar, the sync icon shows for some seconds, before the date of last sync is updated. All ok. When I try using Google sync for contacts, the sync icon shows for 5-15 minutes. It then disappears, but no date of last sync is added. When I check the contact list, contacts have been synced from Gmail, but not to Gmail.
When I select Settings -> Data synchro -> Gmail, the sync icon blinks for some seconds with a yellow warning triangle. I don't know if this is related to my Gmail e-mails. The e-mails in the Gmail app are loaded without problem.I have already tried going to "manage application" and clear data for "Gmail" and "Gmail storage". I should probably mention that I synced my phone contacts with Gmail some months ago, without problems. This means that my Gmail contact list was not empty when I started messing with this. However, on my first sync attempt, contact lists on the phone and on Gmail were not synced. Instead, all Gmail contacts were added to the phone, causing 95% duplicate entries. I exported my Gmail contacts, deleted the entire Gmail contact list, and synced again to remove duplicate entries from the phone. Then started the process above. I would rather avoid deleting all the contacts from the phone to reload them from Gmail or SE sync, because addresses, facebook/twitter connections, etc. do not sync well.

Bourne to Blog: Negotiating with your Mobile Phone Carrier. I wanted to upgrade to an Android phone, but this would require a "data plan". Some time ago, I was told that since I wanted to keep my plan, I could add unlimited data for an additional $30/month and keep the plan. However, about a month ago, I emailed customer service wanting to do this with the Android phone. They told me can't do this with the Android phone, you'll have to switch to data plan (essentially losing my plan).
So, here's what I did: My dad got me an Android on his "Family Plan" along with my step-mom and step-sister. To add me onto his plan is just an additional $20 per month. So, this made the most economical sense (since I wasn't about to give up my old phone and plan).
I have turned off vibration in the settings but it still vibrated when phone/dial a number. Is there any way to turn this off as well? I liked it at first, but turning it off really speeds up the response time. For some reason it is still vibrating when I go to phone and start typing a number. The lag id horrible compared to typing with the vibrate off

Also, recently (as in today). My phone has been sending messages to other people, randomly. I got a phone call from my mother but it popped up as a totally different number.

Let's say one of those is in my contact list (my wife, for example), and she has multiple numbers (work, cell, etc.).I know i can click the little card on the left side, but it would be great to be able to swipe side to side on her to switch numbers, but that doesn't seem to work.You would think it would b/c there are little arrows beside the number for people that I have multiple numbers on.Is there any way to do this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to backup my contacts so I can update to 2.1. Currently, the contacts on my phone are split between Phone (people who I call) and Google (people who I email). My google contacts are really messy and disorganized because it is every single person I email. Currently, I have my phone only showing the phone contacts I had synced from my computer. But in order to export the contacts now, it seems I have to export them all together. When I sync it back after I update, they will probably not be split between phone and google. Is there any way to show only contacts that have a number assoicated with them so my phonebook isn't that messy?

So I spent over hours trying to figure out a way to do it and eventually forced me to create all my contacts in my PC (which I just import/exported to my gmail account), but that took me about an hour or 2. So I was wondering if there was some way I can backup my contacts FROM the phone, directly onto gmail, or a contacts file. Because I know I will get contacts, and this information will be helpful in the near future.Also, please check out my other thread. My HTC is having major Awake issues.

I have a Droid 3. My Accounts include my main Gmail acct, a gmail acct I hardly ever use (no contacts issues there), a pop3 account and a Touchdown-Exchange account which I dont need because Im not connected to that Exchange server any longer. Some time ago, since I wasnt on the Exchange server any more, I deleted the Touchdown account. Then I realized some or most of my Google contacts had disappeared from the phone. Thinking that this would delete the same contacts from the Gmail servers when it synced, I immediately restored the Touchdown account, restoring the lost contacts to the phone. Are these 2 issues related?
How can i backup my contacts list before updating my phone. would rather not have to buy an application to do this.

I start saving them to phone instead of Google when giving the option, thinking i could just sync whenever i upgraded ROMS. I was wrong i lost some contacts, restoring older ROMS. So for future references I will save to google, I just want to know if the current contacts now can be saved to Google grouped or i have to go in and do them individually.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI miss typing in someones name on my BB keyboard and then pressing their name to call them. Love the Hero though. I know the hero can do this, but there are two things I dislike: 1. It uses a keypad not a keyboard. 2. The keypad takes up so much space that you can only see 2.5 names at a time, not 7 or 8+ like a BB. (I know about pressing the button to remove the keypad to see more names) Is there any way of changing #1 or #2 on my Hero? Also, What is the fastest way to copy someone's number and paste it in a text message to someone else? A task I seem to do more often than I would like. The send contact as a vcard is cool, but not all phones can read vcards.
