There are 1000 people trying to get their phone contacts to become google contacts, but i want my google contacts to become phone contacts so i can get them to sync to my windows contacts.

i use google contacts to sync my personal numbers to my phone but for some reason everytime i email someone from somewhere like craigslist that anonymous address is saved to my contacts? wtf? how do i stop this?

View 21 Replies View RelatedBecause I use gmail my contacts list on google is an insane mess...to deal with this I have my hero only sync my contacts in a group called, obviously enough "Contacts" - this is great - it gives me just the phone numbers of the people I actually call and speak with....but occasionally I do need to access a contact that I don't want saved to my permanent contact list...how do I view these contacts? I start saving them to phone instead of Google when giving the option, thinking i could just sync whenever i upgraded ROMS. I was wrong i lost some contacts, restoring older ROMS. So for future references I will save to google, I just want to know if the current contacts now can be saved to Google grouped or i have to go in and do them individually.

I've never been one to keep a very neat & tidy Google contact book (though, I guess it's about time to start), so I'm noticing that now that I've synced my phone with my Google account, I have TONS upon TONS of contacts -- many of which I don't even want in my phone. Obviously, the phone has added my G mail contacts. So now, as I'm adding everyone's phone numbers (something I never kept in G mail), I'm added it to their Google Contacts listing. Is that the best way to do it? I've read a few posts about the topic and I see a lot from people who are previous smart phone users, but what about us newbies? So my question: Is there a way to make it so Google syncs everything *but* my Google Address Book, allowing me to only have my phone's contact list? What about hiding some contacts? If not, what are your suggestions for managing your Google contacts.

However, I do NOT want Google contacts to be auto-updated... I dont use Google contacts, all my contacts are Phone contacts, and I want to keep it that way.

When I try and sync my contacts from my phone to google the phone Say's and always has done:

I'm on a stock OS with the latest updated ROM.
In my previous phone I could set different ringtones for those in my contacts list and then another ringtone for those numbers not in my contacts list so I could tell by the ringtone if someone was calling that was in my contacts list or not.On the Hero there doesn't seem to be any way to do this.I was also able to set different volume levels for various notifications (ie, louder for phone calls and quieter for email and sms notifications).Does anyone know if this is possible on the hero?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

I don't want to do the .csv backup and all that just sync all Phone and Google contacts to Google. The reason is because when Verizon transfers your numbers, they get saved as Phone contacts but from what I understand,the update only re-syncs your Google contacts.So is there a quick/easy way to do this?She is not very tech-savvy.I just want to make sure she does this before she upgrades,so she doesn't lose all of her phone numbers.

I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI own a HTC hero (Orange). With talks of android updates becoming available, there seems to be a mad rush to back up everything so that nothing is lost on the update. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the most common problems, is that people have their contacts saved as 'Phone' contacts and not 'Google' contacts. This means that they will not sync with Google mail. There was no contact export available to me (I think because my firmware was still 1.5).
This seems to be a solution that will solve the problem without having to write out every single contact number in Google mail.
1. Enter android market.
2. Search 'Contact sync'
3. Download/Install this application.
4. Run the application
5. All contacts will be turned from 'Phone' contacts to 'Google' Contacts
6. These contacts will then be synchronized with your Google mail
This means that if your contacts are lost on your phone at any point (eg. an update), they can easily be 'Exported' back to your phone through Google mail.
Every time I add a new contact it goes under "phone". I'd like it to go under "Google" where it would sync and be done with, but I also would like the current 6 I have under "Phone" to go to "Google".

This is hard to explain, and I've searched (probably badly) and can't find the answer.If I hit the "phone" button on my cdma hero, it pulls up a list of people that have called or been called recently. Let's say one of those is in my contact list (my wife, for example), and she has multiple numbers (work, cell, etc.).I know i can click the little card on the left side, but it would be great to be able to swipe side to side on her to switch numbers, but that doesn't seem to work.You would think it would b/c there are little arrows beside the number for people that I have multiple numbers on.Is there any way to do this?
