Sprint HTC Hero :: Losing Data Cennection After Rooting And Removing Stock Apps

Aug 20, 2010

I rooted my phone for the first time yesterday. I have not yet flashed any ROM's, all I have done so far is remove some of the stock apps. I have lost my data connection a couple times today, usually a reboot will solve it, however it hasn't on one or two occasions. It seems to have started happening after changing my boot animation to something closer to the 1.5 boot animation. Is it possible that this new boot animation is causing my data connection problems.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Losing Data Cennection After Rooting and Removing Stock Apps

Sprint HTC Hero : Stock Apps And Rooting

Dec 30, 2009

I know you can remove those bogus stock apps by rooting the hero but I have a slightly different question that I couldn't find in other threads. I am interested in rooting my hero just to remove the bloatware and then unroot the phone back to its original ROM. I am not a huge fan of tinkering with my electronics because it voids warranties, possibly bricks devices, and causes trouble with firmware updates, but it really ticks me off that sprint forces these apps on us and then makes them impossible to uninstall. Imagine getting a new PC and not being able to remove crap like wild tangent and the 20 free trials for programs you don't want or need. I know this isn't news to anyone here, but every time I see that Nascar app I get irritated. Seriously sprint? Nascar? Anyway, my questions are 1.) is root/unroot possible to remove bloat and return to original state 2.) has anyone had success uninstalling pieces of the bloat without rooting? I don't want to uninstall anything integral to the phone like the stock messages app, but Nascar has gots to go!

Sprint HTC Hero :: Keep Losing GPS And Data Connection

Jul 13, 2010

seemingly for no reason. running fresh 2.3.3, and whatever stock kernels/overclockers or whatever, come with it) i've searched on here but havent really found the answer.it seems about 50% of the time when i go to either the browser or maps (or something that uses GPS), i'll find no connection. toggling airplane mode seems to remedy data connection, but i usu have to reboot to bring GPS back up. anyone else having these issues?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Losing Data Connection With 2.1 Update

Jun 14, 2010

After updating to 2.1, I lose my data connection about once or twice a day. No visible notification but the EV symbol at the top of the screen will always be "lit up" w/ the upload/download arrows showing no activity. I always have to switch the airplane mode on for a second and turn it back off. I have bluetooth automatically connect to my car when I'm in it and don't know if that's what is causing it? Anyone else having this issue and finding a cure? I updated PRL as well as firmware, but no luck.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Go From Apps2SD To NOT Using It Without Losing Apps / Its Settings?

May 20, 2010

Is there a way, to go from Apps2SD to NOT using Apps2SD without losing apps or app settings?

The process as I understand it is:

Make a Nandroid Backup (or do you need Nandroid+ext?)
copy SD contents to PC
Wipe phone, Wipe and repartition SD card w/ no ext
replace contents of SD card (while in Recovery you can mount the card, correct?)
flash ROM
Restore

The question I have is, will all the apps and settings be in the restore, or will I need to reinstall and set everything up again?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Apps Slowly Losing Their Proper Names And Turning Into Their Java Ones

Oct 25, 2009

I've had 4-5 apps so far do this to me, and every once in a while another app does the same - instead of displaying its proper name, like ChompSMS or wpToGo, the name would switch to the Java version, such as com.p1.chompsms or com.roundhill.androidWP.wpAndroid.

The name change occurs globally - in the app list, widget names, even the displayed name when I start the app. The only place where the names stay OK is the Market.

These changes don't happen after an update - just randomly but once they happen, they stay.

Some other apps include VoiceCallerID and Mystique Chapter 1.

WTF is going on with my phone?

Sprint HTC Hero :: What Are Pros And Cons Of Apps 2sd (after Rooting)?

Dec 29, 2009

Let's say the user starts with a 16GB, class 6 SD card. What are the benefits of storing apps to the SD card? Does it let the phone run smoother? Does it allow you to install more apps on your phone? What are the cons? Do apps take longer to open/load? Is there a risk of damaging the SD card and/or the phone? If someone could explain this to me as thoroughly as possible.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Glitchy Data Connection / Weird Error Messages After Rooting

Jun 15, 2010

So I rooted a week or so ago. Didn't flash any new ROMs or anything, just deleted some bloatware and set up wireless tethering. Right away I noticed the data connection going up and down a lot. Then a few days ago I started periodically getting a black popup with this: When I get it, I just hit "dismiss" and so far, everything goes back to working normally at that point. Still, it's a little disconcerting. Anyone else gotten this popup or had their data connection messed with by rooting?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Got Error Message Of Losing Signal In FB

Mar 21, 2010

So last night i had my phone sitting on my dresser while i watched the dodger game about 2 hours later when i picked it up and attempted to check face book, it kept giving me error messages. Convinced that this was another stupid FB error i went to surf the web only to say I was not connected to a network. I looked at the top of my phone and i had 3 bars but next to there bars there was no 1x or EV signal just the bars. I went into my settings and un clicked the mobile network and then clicked it again and it worked This has happened to me about 4 or 5 times since i owned the hero since December. Anyone have any similar stories or explanations? Also sometimes it seems that when my phone is sleeping, i wont get text messages until i unlock it?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Removing APK / Uninstall Lock Bot?

Jan 18, 2010

I REALLY need some assistance, think I screwed my phone, really want to avoid a hard wipe. I installed Lock bot the other day, has some issues with dual lock layers (i.e. the lock bot app wasn't disabling my HTC lock so I had two unlocks.). emailed dev and he sent me a beta version to hopefully correct issue. I only received an apk file from him. FYI I am on fresh 1.1, rooted. I used the kitchen to puch this file: "LockBotPro_1.10.0_beta.apk" to /system/app. The install went successfully, but later after a reboot I face a HUGE issue. The lock bot app is hanging upon reboot and will not unlock. At first I thought i would still be okay, I had ATK and Advanced Task manager both running at start up, so I can enter both of them through my notification drop down menu. I used both to kill the task-to no avail it is still locked. I tried to use advanced task manager to uninstall lock bot - to no avail, it cannot be removed. Then I tried to pull back the file through kitchen, to no avail.

I've seen a few posts about this, but i wanted to ask again and see if anything new has come up.I'm happy with my USER dictionary, because i check it every couple days to make sure there's no crazy stuff in there that will pop up while typing. However, i would really like to be able to edit the dictionary that comes on the Hero. The biggest gripe i have is that EVERY time i type "the" it replaces it with "Tue"Wouldn't the dictionary be a file on the phone? Seems like you should be able to edit it after rooting, no?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Remove - Delete / Uninstall Pre-installed Programs - Apps - Or Sprint Apps

Nov 7, 2009

Is there any way to remove pre-installed programs?

For example, the following programs were pre-installed:

Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter

And maybe some others.

I've just tried:

Settings | Applications | Manage Apps

And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.

Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?

Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?

Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar

Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?

A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
