Does the Hero use the stock android web browser? Or, a browser made by HTC? I am having data issues with the Moment, so Sprint has a Hero on the way. But I love the stock android browser on the Moment.

With the Droid's 2.1 update, it will be getting multitouch in the browser. So I'm assuming that stock Android browsers will be getting multitouch from 2.1 on forward. I've always been under the impression that the purpose of the Sense browser was to incorporate multitouch that was previously missing in older versions of Android.
With 2.1 coming to our Heros, do you think the new Hero's will just use stock browser? If not, will there be any way to GET the stock browser on the Hero? I honestly think I would like the stock browser better, because I hate the "text autoflow" on the Sense browser. Everytime I zoom, it text-autoflows, and throws me onto some random place on the screen! Plus it makes the browser slower.
After I rooted phone I deleted apps I did not think I would use including the browser. I did not however think all the way through the process and of course now the search key does not work. I like using that key for work.
Can someone help me re-install? I asume all I need is the apk file?
Anyone else have the problem of their bookmarks in the stock browser reverting back to the default ones? Twice in the last week I have lost all of my bookmarks on a phone power off and back on - I did not go in and clear any data or cache in the browser.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA while ago I found a tip somewhere on how to get to some additional hidden android browser settings including how to change the user agent string so that the browser would identify itself as a desktop browser or iPhone browser while surfing. This setting is reset between sessions, I didn't use it frequently and eventually forgot how to go about making the change. Recently I had a need to access these hidden browser settings again and it took quite a long and frustrating search effort to finally locate this information which does not seem to be widely publicized. So, in an effort to save anyone else this trouble, I figured I would post the information on how to do this on a couple Android boards that I frequent and also include a few words that might be picked up as search terms for anyone else trying to find this info. The procedure is very simple. I currently have an HTC Sprint Hero running Android 1.5, so I'm not sure what other devices or builds this will work on..
View 8 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone for the first time yesterday. I have not yet flashed any ROM's, all I have done so far is remove some of the stock apps. I have lost my data connection a couple times today, usually a reboot will solve it, however it hasn't on one or two occasions. It seems to have started happening after changing my boot animation to something closer to the 1.5 boot animation. Is it possible that this new boot animation is causing my data connection problems.

After some investigation I found out that all four of them were using the new Sprint HTC Hero devices. This error hasn't been reported on any other device/ROM nor could I repro it in the emulator.
I figured this is the kind of error that one gets if layout is too big or too wide. Although my layout is very well within the limits that Android framework puts, I split it further and asked the users to test. However, even with this fix the users are seeing similar crash while inflating the layout.
How I can proceed to fix/workaround the issue - given that I don't have access to any such device?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI make a call and it connects but I can't hear them and they can't hear me. It doesn't matter if it is a incoming or an outbound call. Sometimes I have to power down the phone and turn it back on, the call then connects correctly. I'm totally bewildered!!! I have fresh 2.1.2/ a gumbo kernal.Any advice and help is greatly appreciated.

But I digress- I'm having 1 problem in particular and after reading up on forums, and numerous google searches I've reached the end. I concede!Whenever I'm using my hero to play music in the stock player (and I believe Last.FM too) & I receive a notification- be it IM, text, email or anything else- my phone remains silenced after the notification is over. So I'll get a text, the phone will silence my music to play the notification (short beeps, long beeps, full ringtones,) I'll check the notification & my music player still remains silenced (edit: while its still playing- & when I hit play it continues where it was paused @ not where I was last listening to it.) I have to pause & replay whatever song is on or wait for Last.FM to move to the next song or skip the last song to hear anything. This is happening no matter how I'm listening. Cabled headphones, bluetooth stereo headphones, the speaker.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Blaupunkt Melbourn car stereo with the Blaupunkt USB/Bluetooth Interface installed in my car and it used to work just fine with my Sprint Mogul and Touch Pro, but I can't seem to make it work with my Hero. When I pair the two, the radio only recognizes the Hero as an audio source and not as a phone. In other words, I assume I can stream music from the phone to the radio but I can't answer the phone with it. I should add that the connection icon shows up as audio headphones instead of a phone handset in the Bluetooth Devices screen.And this is just the opposite of what I need. I could care less whether I can stream music, but I need to be able to use the car radio as a hands-free device and as I wrote in the last paragraph, the radio worked perfectly in that capacity with my last two phones.So does anyone have any idea whether this is a phone problem or a stereo problem? Does anyone have any idea if there's a work-around? For that matter, does anyone have any helpful information at all?

Im running Fresh 1.1 rom
I've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.
Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.
So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.
Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.
I am running Liquid sense 2.1 and attempted to download and install the signed sprint visual voicemail apk from xda but it errors out on install.I may be installing the wrong one perhaps?I just want the basic VM functionality of the stock sprint program.

I have noticed when I visit a website on this browser it renders the page very small. I compared it side by side with the regular Dolphin browser that renders pages in normal size. Of course I can pinch zoom but its annoying to have to do that on the hd version,.. am I missing something maybe? Also I cant find youtube on the hd version...
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Telus HTC Hero, which the seller had unlocked. I intend to use this phone with another carrier, Bell. After spending a few hours at Bell customer service, they finally managed to get the 3G data working (for weather, email etc.). However, the browser does not work, neither does the Market.
What seems to be causing the problem is that this phone is MASSIVELY tweaked (appears massive to me probably because I'm not that big on tweaking and don't know about the Android OS in general) by the previous owner who only had it for a few days. The Bell customer service person told me that they switched over a couple of other HTC devices from Telus that were NOT tweaked and the data works perfectly.
All I want is for the phone to be in original factory settings, with original ROMs, firmwares, software, etc. etc. Just looking at the whole bunch of different files that this guy had on the 2GB "gold" memory card made my head spin. He attempted to explain to me with all the "updates" and fancy "roms" and "roots" and crap that I didn't understand nor do I want to spend the time to learn.
I understand that a lot of people buy android phones because they love tweaking but I am not really into all that... I just wanted the phone for the form factor and the functionality and I don't want to worry about optimizing and whatnot. So my question is: is there any way to get the phone back to the most original possible software condition? I just want it "clean." Can I go ahead and wipe everything that is on the 2 GB card? What do I do? I performed a hard reset and it took me to some weird startup screen and I chose the first option which is like reboot now (there were also a bunch of other options including apply update.zip or something)... it still gave me the same MoDaCo build.
I can provide any information but I would really appreciate any help in restoring my seemingly very tweaked phone to original, factory settings, so it could be like any other phone being sold by Telus other than the fact that it is unlocked.
Just a small discussion. Curious as to why people prefer Sense-less ROM's. Android is the best cell phone OS I have ever used, and I think the SenseUI only improves it, aesthetically(sp?) and socially speaking. The tiny lag my Hero suffers is worth it for all of the beautiful widgets, the launcher, the Facebook and Twitter integrations and did I mention. I have never described anything electronic as beautiful before! The stock Android look captivates me until I use it. It seems so bland and *ugh* to me. And as far as speed goes, the Senseless ROM's I have tried are no faster then the Fresh ROM I am running, and if it is it's completely unnoticed by me. But anyways I am just curious what reasons you have for using the SenseUI or stock Android OS, whether it be for apps to run more efficiently, speed, whatever. Just curious, might try a couple new ROM's soon.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed that the stock music player isn't very good at shuffling music? I have my playlist set up, and want it to shuffle while I'm listening at work. It will shuffle, but the problem is that it won't play all the songs on my playlist. I have about 500 on this particular playlist, and in an 8 hour day I will hear the same song 3 or 4 times. In the 3 weeks I've been using it at work, there are some songs that I have *NVER* had come up on the shuffle. I tried turning on just shuffle and not repeat, but same thing. Is there a fix for this, or does anyone have recommendations on a music player that I can download that is better?
** Clarificaion: By "recommendation" I mean more than "Get Product X, it's cool". Why is it "cool"? What makes it better than the other products?
I have a Motorola droid (orig) that when you are web browsing there is a bar that comes up on the bottom right with +/- to adjust zoom level. Does this still exist on the Droid 2 Stock Browser?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've notice recently my Hero has been acting up, almost as if it is rebooting. However, I don't believe it is a full reboo, i.e. no sprint logo during boot. Only occurs when exiting out from the internet browser. As soon as you hit the home screen to exit, the phone returns to the white htc load page. It appears like it is the full reboot but it does not move next to the Sprint/Now pages. Next the desktop appears but it is grayed out (i.e. my desktop still shows but grayed out, no icons or widgets showen) and the spinning loading icon shows up. Once it finishes loading things appear back to normal. Almost makes me wonder if this reboot is more like sense rebooting and not the entire phone/system. Not sure if this is possible but I want to get anyone's thoughts and if anyone else had expirenced this.
