I read somewhere that 2.1 will block the tethering with PDANET. Does anyone know if that is true or not?
I just bought the paid version of PDANET a few days ago and that will suck it I can't use it anymore after 2.1.

On my HTC Hero, when typing messages, I could always easily access characters like "?" and "!" and numerals by simply "long touching" that button. Very convenient. However, recently, that featured stopped working. I can no longer "long touch" the K-key and get a question mark like I used to.
Is this a setting that has been inadvertently turned off? If so, I can't find it.
If I download the pdanet tethering app to my htc hero, will my ipod touch be able to work off my phone?
I know it's probably a stupid question but I am new to all of this.I know there is a free version and paid version of that app.....which should I get?

It keeps Sense UI with extras like the Friend Stream widget, but the only problem is my phone runs on Edge/1x only now and that internet is just too slow!

Now, I really don't care about the bookmarks, but I used the month view for my Exchange account all the time. I can't seem to find a way to get them back, any ideas?
View 8 Replies View RelatedFirst, I've got to give credit to the other post for figuring out the main reason for the short battery life I was getting. If you're already getting good battery life - ignore this post.It only took me two months to figure it out (I had this phone since the pre-release Friday from Best Buy), but the main culprit was the HTC clock with weather widget (or the TWC app). By process of elimination I tried literally everything but ultimately figured out that it was either the default HTC clock widget w/ weather or the "The Weather Channel" widget, or both. I got rid of both and my battery life has improved dramatically.I used to unhook my phone charger at 6:30 a.m. and my battery would be less than 15% by 5 p.m. with moderate use (few texts, few calls of 5 minutes each, and three emails pulling every 15 minutes). I tried lengthening the time interval to an hour for email pulling, changed the "default" mail account to my yahoo account from my activesync exchange account, unchecked "always on mobile", "background data" sync for google, no gps, no wifi, etc. but still couldn't last a 15 hour day without the battery dying. I did the SMS fix, got the MR update and still got crappy battery life despite never exceeding 18% awake time.Finally, last night I got rid of the HTC default widget clock w/ weather as well as the weather channel widget and today I went through 15 hours with heavy usage (more calls, longer calls, more text messages, and more emails than normal) and still at 30%.While this isn't earth shattering, it is a significant improvement than before. Hope this helps somebody.

Is there anyway I can avoid having to recharge so much my phone isn't rooted and I have Astro and task manager installed but it still dies pretty fast. What can I do? Is there an app I can download?

I was getting 2 hours "Heavy" (texting,data,wifi,high brightness) use before.I read somewhere that there it is a battery issue caused by the defaul HTC (or android, idk) application.The work around is for sms to something other than the included app as the default action for text messaging. This is accomplished installing another handcent sms or various other apps that you may find by going to the market and searching SMS.After installation go to the contacts list and send a text to a contact.A screen should pop up and ask which messaging app you would like to use. If i does not ask you, then you should go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> It will take a minute while your phone computes the space taken up by each app.Click Messages> and Tick Clear defaults if it is available. Viola! substantial battery boost and faster charges.you can verify that your phone is now using less power by rebooting then shut of your screen by pressing the end key wait for 1-5 mins mins without touching it now quickly settings> about phone> status all the way at the bottom your phones "Awake Time" (not up time) should be below %40 (mine is between 10-40%) day to day if this is not the case your phone has other issues and I will try my best to help you out
I have also heard that by letting you device go to sleep immidiately after turning it on it enters a weird device state that causes %100 cpu usage. though i cannot confirm this i always flip to the next screen and back a few times and check my twitter and what not to make sure.
ok, so i just updated my HTC Hero to the new 2.1. So far i am enjoying the updated UI however, i have noticed some changes, for instance, before i could easily assign ringtones to anyone now when i try to assign tones that are saved on my sd card to specific contacts it will not allow me to do so. The phone now only lets me set a default tone which can be any tone (sd card or factory) but all contacts have this tone & i cannot assign specific tones for certain contacts.

The new weather app HTC included with v2.1 doesn't allow me to add cities that aren't in its list ... frankly I don't give a crap what the weather in Paris or Dubai is! We used to be able to input additional cities, current locations, etc. and swipe thru the list. If there's a way to add cities I haven't found it yet ... anyone know how?
I've looked at the WeatherBug, Accuweather, Weather Channel, etc., etc. apps and while they're nice they don't allow me to EASILY switch from city to city. So, what I'm looking for is EXACTLY what we had before.... Anyone know where I can find that?
I have a problem getting the Geocoder to return results on my new PC during development. I started writing a android app on my other (Win XP) system and Geocoder worked fine and returned locations based on an address that I passed to it.
I recently bought a new PC (Win 7). Moved the code over to it and now the no address queries return any results. I tried a couple that did work on the xp machine, but are returning no results on the new pc. It does not give any errors.
I did generate a keyfile on the old pc. Do i need to create another on the new pc? Does the Geocoder require the key? It is not from the maps api.
I'm sorry to bother everyone with this, especially if it was already asked. My sister, her husband and her son (my neph) own an Evo. They were OTA's to froyo way back. Now, I've gotten a call from her asking me why their swype no longer works on their phones. They had a swype.apk that was unauthorized, fyi. Note: I am not asking for a link, I'm asking if anyone knows what happened. She's asking me (everyone comes to me with their android questions).

However when I receive an incoming call or message the picture is not on there. When I receive a call it doesn't even show up on my caller id it just shows the number. I have updated the prl and profile from another issue that I'm still having trouble with. The longer I have this phone the more problems I'm having.

It used to be that when I type out that character string I don't even have to press talk; it would automatically open the settings. Now the text string just disappears.
I had heard Verizon was unable to allow voice and data usage at the same time. However, when I got my DI I was able to surf the web while talking on the phone. Then this morning Verizon pushes out some update and suddenly when im on the phone 3g disappears.from the top bar and I get an error message that I can't connect to the web. What happened and is there anyway.to reverse this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedNormally if you call a Sprint phone and voicemail picks up you can press 2 which bypasses voicemail and automatically sends a text showing "PLEASE CALL (# your calling from)".
For people that use the automated greeting it usually says "You have reached the The Sprint voicecaller "recites number" please leave a message" and at that point you press 2 to to send the page showing you called.
NOW on the Evo, (or maybe its the Andriod platform) when people call you they get a greeting that says "you reached phone number" and if you hit 2 to bypass it, it says sorry "that option is not available". This sucks and by no means is this feature a deal breaker for me, (this phone is The One like Jet Li) however...
The reason I'm bringing this up it that "press 2 to page feature" I been using for years now has been extremely useful when I have no service or 1-2 bars. If you miss calls by receiving that quick text showing please call. this at least alerts you know someone called when you didnt have service.
Just looking to see if anyone knew of a workaround or another quick option, (besides the person having to type a text. I think ppl are less reluctant to leave messages nowadays..I dont either)
For some reason the history tab on the system panel app no longer works. When I click it nothing happens. I'm not sure why it stopped. Every other part of the program works fine. Any idea what the problem could be?
Also I'm typing this from the default browser and it seems to be working just fine, I'm impressed.

I have just updated to version 2.1 and noticed my push Gmail wasnt working. I then went into the Google Mail application and can see its not showing any emails in the inbox and its not downloading any mail in "All items" either. Its only showing emails prior to the update. If I hit refresh it spins for a few moments and I see the data arrows indicate transfer but it doesnt refresh the inbox.

Got caught in a torrential downpour this afternoon to find my wallet and phone somewhat damp after being in my soaking jeans.Power button no longer works so effectively once the screen saver kicks in I cant unlock it. Thankfully its still within warranty so will take it back to get a replacement.This is the 2nd phone I've had that has suffered this prob. I really have to question the build quality of some of the modern phones. Do they even test the use of phones in the rain? It seems somewhat of a basic function, and to have such a major malfunction with such minimal exposure to rain is quite disappointing to say the least, especially when it never came into direct contact.
