HTC Hero : Cannot Sync With Google Calendar
Jul 23, 2010
This is weird and I am starting to lose love for Android and my Hero... with Android 2.1 you can now have more than 1 Google account on your phone. I have two gmail accounts there under the phone's gmail app. (Both only update once per blue moon but that is an entirely separate issue ... I think).
I want to be able to sync my Google calendar with the phone's calendar, as I used to be able to do do quite nicely and easily on my crackberry, shouldn't be rocket science. So with the two gmail accounts on my phone, account #1 is one where I do NOT want to sync, either contacts or calendar, ever. Account #2 is the one where I *DO* want to sync contacts, email and calendar.
So I bring up the Gmail app on the phone, hit menu, hit accounts, hit menu again, then hit settings. Both accounts are showing up there. Going to account #2 (the one I *DO* want to sync with everything), the sync button is checked but there is *NO* calendar button to indicate it should also sync with calendar?? But doing the same thing with account #1 (the one I NEVER want to use to sync contacts or calendar), the calendar sync button *IS* there. WTH?
I thought maybe because the account I never want to sync with was added first, so I thought I would DELETE that one, get the calendar sync setup, then re-add that account. Nope - the phone says that if I do that, I will have to reset the phone back to factory settings and lose all personal data. WTF - was this phone and operating system made by Fred Flintstone?

I use Google calendar every day. If I update on my PC it is on my phone almost instantaneously if I amend that appointment on my Hero it will not sync to the PC over 3G. (I amend, update on the move during my day out and about) The only way to sync is to return to the PC and connect my phone to home wifi and force a sync. (untick calendar in "Application sync settings" the re-tick) My Googlemail and contacts sync fine, 3G and wifi.

Since I have been on holidays to Spain last Christmas (and used plane mode) my HTC hero does not properly sync with google calendar I see on my computer. The appointments I add on my phone do not show up on my computer (browser google calendar). Events that I enter in the browser do show up on my phone. So there is a one way synchrosisation. Sunbird on the computer is no longer able to connect with the google calendar. (It indicates a connection error) I removed the calendar it had and inserterd a new one (with the private ical address you can find in google calendar settings). But the connection error continues.
The calendar in Google desktop is able to connect to the calendar in the browser but also does not show the events I entered in my phone. I have checked and re-checked my phone's settings to see if all the options are checked but all seems ok. All sync options are checked: background / autosync / gmail / calendar / contacts (are synched both ways).

Google sync has been working fine till my Hero finally updated to all the latest software/firmware last weekend. Since then, it has continually failed to sync Google calendar (mail and contacts are fine) BUT it tries all the time - exhausting the battery every 12 hours in the process! I've seen suggestions to remove the account and re-set it up but it won't let me. Try to delete it and it says "This account is required by some applications. You can only delete it by resetting the phone to factory defaults which deletes all your personal data". It even continues to try and sync when 'Sync calendar' is NOT ticked on the 'data & sync' page! Any suggestions, or do I really need to go back to factory settings?
(& if so, how do I do that?)

My Nokia could synchronise with his easily (and over Bluetooth!). I know there isn't a specific app for Android which will let me do this with the Hero, but wondered if anybody know's of a 'two step approach'. i.e. get Lotus Notes to sync the calender with, say, Google Calender; then get the Hero to sync with google calender.

I'm planning on getting the Sprint Hero. I have a hosted Exchange account that I use to manage my emails, calendar, contacts, and tasks. I'm planning on continuing using my Exchange account. I do not want to use Google for Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks syncing.
I have the following questions.
1. How do I turn off Google calendar, contacts, and tasks syncing?
2. Do I need to turn off Google syncing?
3. Is Exchange data stored and managed separately on the phone from Google's calendar, contracts, and tasks but displayed together in the HTC applications?
4. Will the HTC implantation of Exchange ActiveSync allow me to sync tasks?

Is there a way to sync Google calendar and contacts to the phone calendar and contacts?
I deleted all my outlook entries (calendar and contacts) from the phone because it was creating duplicates. Now, I am syncing my Hero with my Lotus Notes calendar at work, as well with my Google calendar. I can see all appointments on my phone. However, I can't see Lotus appointments on my Google account, neither my Google calendar entries on my Lotus Notes.
How can I sync them all? If I import my Google entries into Lotus, it will create duplicates in the Phone and vice-versa.
I don't see any advantages for Google entries to be separated from my other entries. I have one list of contacts and that list should be the same across all programs I use. The same for calendars (actually it is useful to have multiple calendars, as long as no duplicates exists).
That, for me, is the biggest drawback of the HTC Hero. My Moto Q was a lot worse phone than the Hero, but the calendar and contacts sync was much better.

exchange to sync email due to the fact you have more options on the email client that comes with phone as opposed to the basic gmail program that comes with phone? Is this a good way to go? Is exchange just as fast in pushing the email as google is when it syncs as it comes in? Thanks...

I did a search but cant seem to find an answer. I finally got my work email set up through active sync. Is there a way to get the calendar events to show up on my google calendar? I use calendar pro which I love. I don't know if there is a work around or I am just not knowledgable enough to understand it. A for instance would be that my work email gives me an event or invite...it will show up on the phones calendar but not on my google calendar/events. (my google notification each morning may say "no events scheduled for the day" but phone calendar/calendar pro will show it)

I am new to Android, Google calendar and the Captivate phone. Have successfully imported my old calendar to Google Calendar which initially synced with the calendar on my captivate. However, when I add a new event to my phone calendar, it does not automatically show up on the Google calendar. the Samsung rep told me I have to edit each new even to mark it as a "Google Calendar". Is there any way to make this the default option on the Captivate phone? I am hoping to have automatic syncronization b/t the phone and the Google calendar without having to force it to do so each time.

Problem: Appointments / events created on my LG Optimus G were not syncing to desktop Google Calendar. No problem with appointments / events created on desktop syncing down to phone. Problem Identification: Default calendar when creating appointment / event on phone was calendar called "Phone". There is no calendar on desktop called "Phone". Solution: Pick different calendar when creating an appointment / event on your phone.

I have a HTC Thunderbolt and use all the Google tools for my calendar, email and contacts. At work I have Outlook 2007. I would REALLY like to have my Outlook calendar (at minimum) pushed/synchronized to my phone. Is there an app or a way to configure this to work? Right now I am using the Outlook Web Mobile app for my email and I can view my calendar there but I would like schedule/calendar all in one place.

I run the 1.0r1 emulator and install Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk on the emulator. And I configure the username and pwd from DevTools->Google Service Login successfully. Now I can start the Calendar app successfully, with the month view/week view/etc. But I don't know how to sync the calendars or events with Google Calendar service. From the source code, I assume there should happen sync operation. But it didn't happened. And I know another trigger to sync is Menu->More->My Calendars, but after selected, the activity will crash. The below is from DDMS logcat: 02-21 00:59:44.260: INFO/ActivityManager(56): Starting activity: Intent { action=android.intent.action.VIEW comp=..................

events created on phone won't go to google calendar. I believe I have the sync set up right, events on my google calendar have synced to my phone. A previous thread states you have to choose "google calendar" when generating an event on the calendar on the phone, however, when I try to edit the event, under "Calendar" the setting is "My calendar" but I can't change the setting (tapping on it does nothing)

I just moved from blackberry to android and I am having some issues with the calendar. My old calendar had individual pop ups for each event, the pop up allowed you to open/snooze/ or dismiss each item individually. Also my old calendar had no trouble syncing my gmail and facebook calendars. Android seems to have trouble doing this seemingly simple task. Is there an app or special calendar that can do this?

I have an HTC Evo with Android 2.2, Software #3.29.651.5, Kernel 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e. I have a gmail account setup in K9 mail and am using the mail app to connect to and sync with my companies Exchange server. I have mail, contacts, and calendars setup to sync for all accounts. On my Android calendar app I see both the gmail and exchange calendar items, and in google contacts I see both gmail and exchange contacts. But the calendar events are not syncing with google calendar. I've tried deleting and recreating the exchange account with no luck. Can someone tell me if there's a trick to doing this?

I have my hero using built in calendar app.I have a google calendar and a Exchange calendar, I also have My calendar, not sure what that is. I would like to have all the calendars sync using the phone as the main source. So for example if I create a meeting on my phone it also shows on my exchange calendar and my google calendar. At the moment I have to add a calendar entry under the calendar I want the entry to show up on.So If I add an entry to my exchange calendar it doesn't show in google calendar. Can anyone suggest a sync method, without using PC, just phone.

Device:HTC EVO
Carrier:Sprint
Country / Language:US
OS / Browser / build number (if applicable):
At work, we use Exchange Server 2007. I have Google Calendar Sync installed on my laptop at work doing a 1-way sync to Google, so that my Outlook calendar is always reflected in my Google Calendar on the web so that my wife can see the contents of my Outlook Calendar through me sharing my Google Calendar with her. So far so good. I am logged into that same Google account on my phone. On my phone, in MENU, SETTINGS, ACCOUNTS & SYNC, GOOGLE, the check box is set for Sync Contacts and for Sync GMail. It is NOT checked for Sync Calendar, since that is not my main calendar. On my phone, in the calendar app, in MENU, MORE, CALENDARS, the only calendar selected is Exchange. the Google Calendar is not checked there either.
Whenever I have a calendar entry that has a reminder alert sent, I am shown 2 of the same alerts on my phone simultaneously. The color coding of the alert shows that one if from my Exchange calendar and the other is from the Google calendar. First off all, how does my phone know the contents of my Google calendar, when I have it set not to sync and not to display? Second, why is it alerting me to appointments, when I have it set not to sync and not to display? My Google Calendar data should not even be on my phone. Why is it?
Today, I was actually had a reminder alert occur at the wrong time. My Google Calendar sync doesn't run on the weekends and holidays because I shut down that work PC. After shutting down, I changed an appointment time on my exchange calendar to another time. That appointment will not sync to Google Calendar until after I get back to the office and turn on that PC. I just received a reminder alert on my phone for the OLD time, with a color code of my Google Calendar, since the Google Calendar doesn't know about the change yet. I will receive another alert at the correct time presumably, from my Exchange calendar on the phone
