Sony Ericsson : 1.6 Remains After Upgrade / Error When Reaching Close To End Of Prepare Phase

Attempted to update to 2.1 , everything appeared to go ok , but after restarting i saw that firmware was still in 1.6 .
The only effect was that my intended apps etc. were gone.
According to SE PC Companion the phone is up to date.
According to the phone's software update a new version of Android is available ..
Using the SE PC Companion to repair ( ca'nt install since aIready have the latest sw according to SE-PCC )
results in installation error when reaching close to the end of the prepare phase.

Today i upgrade my x8 to new version, but when i want to go on internet there is no data connection!! But in settings there is an app "TUS INTERNET"(slovenian tusmobil). WHAT IS WRONG?

I'm writing a graphic design application for Android where the user can add several images to a document, where each image is stored as a Bitmap object. Each bitmap has roughly a dimension of 800x400 pixels and uses ARGB8888 pixel format (i.e. ~1.5Mb each).
I'm aware that most of the first generation Android devices have a 16Mb heap limit and this limit is 24Mb and larger for newer phones. I'm also aware that bitmap memory is allocated externally, but I'm confused and what the implications of this is.
My question is: How can I tell at runtime when adding a new Bitmap will get me too close to the memory limit?
Before someone suggests "don't use that much memory", I know that one option I have is to limit how many Bitmaps the user can create such that I know this limit is safe for the most basic Android phones. However, I'd like for phones with a bigger memory limit to support more bitmaps and/or bigger bitmaps.
I know to check for OutOfMemory exceptions when allocating bitmaps. However, there will be some situations where I've only got just enough memory left to allocate one more bitmap. After this point, the whole application will be unstable because even allocating small things like strings could cause an OutOfMemory exception. This is something I want to avoid.
I'm not sure how to define "too close to the memory limit", but I suspect something like "don't allocate more than half of your available memory to bitmaps" would work OK as my other data structures I store in memory are small in comparison.

I am trying to write a sample program to record the video (say camcorder application). When i run my program using the emulator (I have android-sdk- windows-1.5_r3) I see java.io.IOException: prepare failed. error in logcat output.
Further I can see that I have came across this error when i call MediaRecorder.prepare() from CamcorderActivity.surfaceCreated() But I am surprised to see that activity got launched and I am seeing the camera preview! Again the preview is seen only in half of the screen! Its weird!!!
Further when i do recorder.start() to record the video I get java.lang.IllegalStateException. Yes this is obvious since the prepare () has failed. But the question is why prepare() has failed ?

how to close an application? Do you just push the back button to close applications? I wonder because my old phone (Nokia 5800) allows one to have more than one application open at the same time, and it has a function to enable one to check what's running and to close anything that you don't want to run. Is it the same on the X10? If it's only possible to have one app open at the same time, that answers my question, I suppose - if I open another application, the previous one will be closed. That seems to be the case, but I checked the other day what was consuming so much battery and it turned out to be a game (Labyrinth Lite) which seemed to be running in the background. I've deleted it now, but I'd like to have a clearer understanding of how to check easily what is open.

Anyone using any other email app that is as close to the std one as possible? I dont mind it but need something with multi select function.My biggest gripe with the std app is that you have to select one email at a time to delete it, then you have to go into the trash folder and repeat the same process all over again to remove the deleted emails
Bit of a ball ache when you receive in excess of 15 to 20 emails.Any advice? Have tried K9 Mail but that force closes every time I try read mail in the Inbox ?

Please can you advise if it is possible to get the stock SE keyboard and dictionary back after upgrading to 2.1. I actually liked the way the dictionary displayed rather than the scroll that i use now.Also please can you advise why the stock android keyboard only suggests names in the dictionary rather than real words?

Is there anything I can do to get my 3g network back after the 2.1 upgrade? I was in an area that I used to have 3g with no problems. Now that I upgraded to 2.1 Generic for 10xa AT&T I now have no 3g. Maybe I just need to turn it on?

I just checked software update and it tells me 2.1 is now available for upgrade. however, from the sonyericsson site i have to download PCcompanion and do the upgrade via PC.so, my questions..
1. i can not upgrade OTA?
2. i am a Mac user, i must do the upgrade from a PC?

Can someone help me. I turned on the playnow in mediascape and now it always force closes because of playnow. Is there a way to turn off playnow or fix the problem in anyway? A hard reset maybe?

I upgraded firmware to R2BA023 yesterday and everything seems to work fine until today.
Whenever i open mediascape, i get 'the application playnow (process com.sonyericsson.playnonowstore.android) has stopped unexpectedly, please try again. i have tried these options below but nothing works
- from manage applications
. mediascape --> clear data, clear cache, force stop
. mediascape plug-in manager --> clear data, clear cache, force stop
. playnow --> UNABLE to clear data ??
- recycle phone a few times --> power off and on
- delete task manager to make sure this app is not auto-killing mediascape
I get the force close pop-up everytime i launch mediascape. i supposed i can do a HARD reset, but i try to avoid this as i have to re-install everything.

For some reason, everytime I try to access my Mediascape it gives me an error message saying that "The application Playnow(process com.sonyericson.playnowstore.andriod) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Then it makes me force close. I have tried to reset the phone to factory setting as recommend by sony and it is still not working. Can anybody help?

This is really just a silly thing but it's bugging me - I've put the Android keyboard on the phone after the upgrade to 2.1 and the preview of the smileys has disappeared
I can see them in their raw form by long pressing the smiley face on the number pad, but I'm not fluent in smiley language! and also, not all of them translate anyway; I can't get the angry face anymore for example.
Is there any way of getting the smiley page to work as it did on 1.8, where the More button would bring up the pictures? (can you tell I have a banging headache this morning, having trouble with words.

Using Astro. Long press on a file, select "send as", then "Bluetooth" and it just force closes every time.

Love the X10 but cannot get mediascape to work, get force close message each time. Sony not responded to any of my emails and when I called they were not that helpful, could only suggest I restore to factory settings. Do not really want to do that.

I get a message on the phone that says there's an upgrade. I assume this is the Android upgrade. It said, I think, "details on the sonyericsson.com support pages", and no, checking exactly what it said is not an option, I need to use my phone, not keep a message displayed until I have time to do something that potentially renders the phone useless. Web pages refer to installing PC companion which I haven't done. Mea f-ing culpa, it didn't work and I didn't bother. So now the instructions just say connect and either pc companion will install or it's already installed. Neither is true. Trying to look at specific instructions for X10 Mini Pro (or even X10 mini), btw, tells me the page does not exist (it has "wandered off", which strikes me as something that a 10 year old support page might be doing, but one for their newest lines? Come on.) And by the by, the X10 mini pro is not selectable when creating a forum account I didn't want. Glad if someone could help, but honestly expecting another expensive SE brick.
