SetText Changing Wrong Text

Feb 25, 2013

I've searched using a couple of the above keywords and found nothing.Basically I have a layout with a few textview elements a few edittext elements and a few buttons. In the java any incorrect entries by the user in the edittext elements should change a textview element which acts as user instructions to prompt the user to make corrections, the problem is it actually changes one of the button texts. Here is the code for the layout (activity_main.xml):

Code:
<TextView
android:id="@+id/textView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_below="@+id/button4"
android:layout_marginTop="26dp"
android:background="@color/yellow"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
android:text="@string/hello_world"
android:textColor="@color/red" />
[code]..

I know this worked as intended when I only had buttons 1-3, but adding 4 and 5 seems to have started something odd, I can't see anything wrong so am guessing this is a stupid mistake on my part. For reference it is button4 which has it's text changed by the java code. My only thought was that this was something more complicated caused by relative layout and inheritence.

Samsung Fascinate : Opening Wrong Text Thread

Sep 18, 2010

I have been having a bunch of issues with the messaging app, and was wondering if it was just me. I keep having this issue when I will select a text conversation to open, and it will open another thread. I have made sure I am selecting the right conversation, it just likes opening another one. Also sometimes when I use the puzzle piece unlock method to go straight to the new text, it just opens the homescreen, or opens to the list of text conversations when it is supposed to open the specific thread. I am rooted, with LauncherPro running, but I had the same issues when running full TW.

Samsung Captivate :: Timestamps On Text Messages Are Wrong / Battery Has Standby Time?

Jul 18, 2010

First time poster and long time reader. First off I got the Captivate today and love it. I had the Aria and took it back and got this today. I just have a couple of questions. I will list them so it doesn't get confusing.

1. I saw in a few reviews that the battery has standby time of over a month and is generally very good and is a big part of why I bought the phone. That being said, since a full charge at 2:00pm, I am currently (9:00pm) in the yellow on my battery with normal use (ie minimal web browsing, 4 phone calls all under 2 minutes, about 10 total texts and 3 downloaded apps, and just browsing the phones features all while having a task manager). Should I just charge it after a few days and see where I am at?

2. My house usually gives me a pretty good signal but for some reason, I only have 1-2 bars in most of the areas. However, I seem to still be able to do things such as make phone calls with no bars. As for the "death grip", I also have held the phone with a case on it and the signal diminished very quickly which concerns me. A steady 2-3 bars I would be fine with, but 1 bar is unacceptable.

3. Timestamps on text messages are wrong just like they were on the Aria. It is a minor thing but it bugs the hell out of me.

Overall the phone is awesome but I buy a phone for two reasons, number one it has to be a good phone (call quality and reception) and number two it must have an above average battery (7 hours with minimal usage concerns me). I hope I am just overreacting but these are issues I think should be talked about.

Android :: Calling TextView.setText() Periodically Causes UI To Jerk

Sep 28, 2010

I'm coding an audio player where a thread updates the TextView representing the track's elapsed time, every 250 milliseconds. The display looks like this:

1:30/2:30<-----Progress Bar----->
TextView 1 is 1:30/ and TextView 2 is 2:30.
Both are set to wrap_content for width.

What happens is that on every 250 millisecond cycle, the thread checks the current time and updates TextView 1. For this brief moment, TextView 2 and the progress bar get pushed momentarily to the right by about 2-4 pixels. Then they come back to place until the same thing happens during the next cycle. I don't know what's happening. There are no trailing space characters, etc and everything should, theoretically, be working smoothly but it's not.

Android :: Avoiding String Allocation In TextView.setText()

Dec 28, 2009

On Android 1.5, using the Allocation Tracker I see that every time I call TextView.setText() with a StringBuilder as first argument, a String gets allocated from the following call stack (first line is last call):

java.lang.AbstractStringBuilder toString java.lang.StringBuilder toString android.text.TextUtils stringOrSpannedString android.widget.TextView setText

I tried specifying the buffer type with setText(strBuilder, TextView.BufferType.NORMAL) but it doesn't change anything.

Is there a way to avoid this allocation?

Android :: Widget With Changing Text

Aug 17, 2010

I'm attempting to create an incredibly simple widget that changes the text displayed every 5s or so. However I've had major headaches attempting to get this to work. Obviously I can't use the onUpdate call as it's a minimum of every 30min. Currently my solution uses an Timer in an extended Service class, which is as ugly as hell and tends to run like a dog after a while. Is there a "clean" way of doing this, ie. in a manner that doesn't require a Widget, UpdateService, Timers etc.

Android : Changing Text Value Of A Textview Dynamically

Nov 9, 2010

I have a textview in my XML layout file, but when I try to change its text value with code pragmatically (dynamically, depending on which button the user clicks) then the text of the textview doesn't change.

This is the code that I tried:

TextView userText = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.User);

userText.setText(bundle.getString("user"));

In debug mode, I can see that usertext has the changed text, but the change doesn't appear on my mobile window... I don't know why.

EDIT: SOLVED! it was a problem with my relative layout, text is out of the window!

Android :: Edit Text Image Changing Look When Given At Run Time

May 5, 2010

I am having an EditText. If i specify image for the EditText in the layout XML file (android:back ground) it looks different and looks different when i specify it at runtime EditText et = (EditText)find ViewById (R.drawable .et1) ; et.setBackgroundDrawable (Main.themes.getDrawable (EDRAWABLES.EditText BackgroundImage )); Both codes point to the same image. When i specify the image at runtime , the EditText leaves a margin at the top and bottom of the cursor in the edittext which does not happen when i do it in XML. I have attached the screenshots of both images. Top image is the one drawn from XML and bottom one is given at runtime. I am not getting the difference ? Actually i am facing similar problems with other Widgets too if i change the logic of specifying the drawable at runtime and not at compile time.. Is this the default SDK behaviour?
