Alright this may have been asked a few times, or maybe it could not of been asked. I just can't find the thread related to answering this question.
Okay so my question is, can I flash Galaxo 1.6.2 or GAOSP "without" ODIN flashing or updating my firmware to 1.6? and not then what consequences would occur if I don't flash firmware update before GALAXO 1.6.2 flash. My phone firmware version is I7500ZHJA1 and I believe that is the latest firmware for my region which is still Android 1.5.
I want to flash my phone back to android 2.1. My phone is in download mode but odin is not picking it up?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi tried and tried to update my phone using NPS but i litteraly could end my life of aging and by that time it would still be crap and won't update. so i have decided to update my phone to get rid of the animation that my carrier put oh and because it will speed my phone and bettary stuff.. MY PHONE IS STILL IN H1!

I'm new to Android and want to update the firmware. I keep reading about this Odin and was just wondering what it is?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo i downloaded Odin and "I7500XXII5-PDA-CL64494-REV5(VIA).tar" with the intention of overwting my providers startup ads and bloatware and saw in the instructions that I should delete the cache.img file in I7500XXII5-PDA-CL64494-REV5(VIA).tar. However when i did that and try to flash, odin reports: "Check image files!!"
View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my phone, I've had 2 lines show up at the top of my screen in the past couple of days. They're both multi-coloured and definitely look glitchy. They show up even in boot screens, fastboot, recovery, etc. I thought it might have been a problem with Galax0 that I was running, so I tried to re-flash it with Odin, and Odin seems to finish, but the phone does not actually get flashed. It stays at my previous firmware, with all apps installed, but when it reboots with Odin, the screen doesn't work (except in between the two lines at the top, so I can just see the bar at the top). I pull the battery and reboot, and it works, but is very glitchy.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a "backup" like the files that can be used to flash with Odin (phone, pda, bootloader and csc tar files)? That is, if I have a phone with some firmware I want to have in this format, how can I get it? I know about nandroid backup but that's a different format.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi think my gt-i7500 is bricked. i downloaded the 1.6 firmware(.tar) along with ODIN.. set up the downloading mode and used ODIN to flash it to 1.6. ODIN showed PASS in the window but the phone refuses to boot up. It remains frozen with the SAMSUNG sign. Recovery mode is not working either.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had no luck with connecting to my Galaxy using adb under Linux. Has anyone manage to do that? There is an unresolved issue (issue 4635) on code.google.com, which states that adb won't connect to non-HTC devices under Linux (?). From my experience, that is certainly true for Galaxy. Please tell me that I'm wrong. Debugging is on, and lsusb outputs.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to flash my new Galaxy using Odin (because I got it sim-free and I don't have the market). I'm doing this on WinXP inside VMWare on Linux, unfortunately. It had only this to say: <1> Added! <1> Detected!
That is, after I filled in the filename and pressed start, the two boxes went yellow and the timer began counting but there was no other output. I killed it after about 45 mins. I've tried this with the II5 (one file) and IH7 (multiple files) firmware versions linked to from this site. Now, I guess the obvious culprit here is VMWare, but it seems odd that it would find the device and then give up (and NPS and mass storage work as well as expected). Also, even if I don't connect the Galaxy to the PC, the only way I can find to leave the 'downloading...' screen is to pull out the battery - is that normal? I did try with native WinXP on an old laptop too, but it's a 7-year-old installation and it wasn't playing ball... so I'm hoping someone here has a suggestion for how to proceed that doesn't involve a fresh Windows install?
So I flashed my phone early this morning with H7 (I'm in the US - I don't think the H8 with that German/UK CSC file will work for me). Was running GREAT! Seriously, I finally was able to get Internet anywhere and have Market and use the phone like I'd wanted to when I bought it. Then about an hour ago - coincidentally, shortly after I bought my first paid Market application - I picked it up and it was unresponsive. It had shut itself off. I push and hold the power button, and the "Samsung Galaxy" splash screen appears for a second or two and then it dies. When I try plugging it in, the same thing happens with the battery icon: shows up for a second or two and then dies. I was able to get into download mode stably, so I tried to reflash. Odin said everything went fine, but the insta-dying remains.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie at all this, and I've read a lot of posts here but they all say how to root or flash. Pardon my simple question, but I just wanted to know what the difference between rooting and flashing is and at what level (hardware/os etc.) do each of these take effect. Also, which method will directly affect what I see/feel from a user's perspective as opposed to underlying OS changes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been a Galaxy owner since release day on O2 UK and have been following the forums here for a while. I've had all the usual problems (NPS being useless, etc) and found the forum to be invaluable, so thank you.
I wanted to update the firmware, but found there's almost too much information around. Lots of updated / contradictory information, and some of it requiring convoluted hacking of text files etc. I eventually took the plunge, and made notes as I went. Hopefully, this will be of help for other new users.
After reading, I decided there were two stages to this. First, back up the phone so if it all went west I could roll back. Second, get the firmware on it.
Booting in various modes:
With the phone off:
Fastboot mode - call + power
Recovery mode - vol-down + call + power (hold home + back to exit)
Download mode - vol-down + ok + power
To enable root and back up the phone: (update - this method appears to have been blocked as of firmware rev. II5, should still work for IH8 and earlier)
To enable root and back up the phone:
Get recovery image from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8SAFKOIN see [url]
Get recovery flasher from Android Rooting in 1-click (limited time only... until it gets patched)
Copy recovery.img and rectools.tar.gz files to /sdcard
(tar.gz must be the root of /sdcard)
copy the recovery flasher .apk to /sdcard and install it
Run recovery flasher
Choose "backup recovery image" just in case
Enter sdcard/recovery.img as the path
Choose "install custom image"
Boot into recovery mode
Run a nandroid backup
Enable root if desired
Reboot
To flash the firmware:
Get Odin + H7 firmware from MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Get H8 firmware from RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting and unizp it to give you a .tar file. Alternatively, you can use the latest I5 firmware here, there's links to it elsewhere on the forum - I'm using H8 as an example as this was the latest when I wrote this.
Edit the .tar file with 7-zip to remove cache.img (to remove CSC branding) - 7-zip handles .tar files in a vaguely sensible manner, unlike things like WinRAR. 7-zip can be had from 7-Zip
Boot phone in Download mode
Run Odin
Follow instructions here The Chronicles of Cjeni a.k.a. Dejan Cencelj: Flash ROM Samsung I7500 Galaxy for dummies - essentially you're adding your freshly modified .tar as a one-file update, along with the orion.ops file supplied with Odin. The web page is nice and clear.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have new firmware on PC for my Samsung phone, intended for flashing with Odin (i have PHONE, CSC and PIT files). My question here is, is it possible to root this firmware before flashing it. The case is, my phone is now rooted and I don't want to loose root access, but I would like to flash this new firmware, cause with this one i have occasional problems (force close of apps, freezes, loosing wifi connection, etc). I've searched every where but haven't found anything. Only Mobile Odin have such options, but my phone is not supported yet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Galaxy SII to official android 4.0.3 through Kies one month ago. Unfortunately, it often hang and finally cannot boot up again after my yesterday hard reboot. It stuck in the opening white logo "Samsung Galaxy SII".
So I used "download mode" and followed all the steps, including killing Kies, etc. to flash a new 4.0.3 through Odin. Everything seems working fine before I clicked "Start", e.g. yellow "ID:COM". Only boxes of "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" were ticked.
However, the installation process got stuck for over 5 hours now as follows:-
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..[code]....
What should I do next?? It seems not appropriate to reboot my device at this moment, but seems no other choice......

View 8 Replies View RelatedOdin only detect my Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300 when the power is off.
In a meanwhile:
- Odin cannot detect in Download mode.
- KIES is able to connect, detect & do the backup.
- I've tried many versions of Odins.
- Odin(s) is able to detect other phone (Galaxy Mini S5570).
- PC could detect the driver and do the file transfer.
Why only when the power off id:com turns into yellow (or green in Odin 3) ????
The Samsung i7500 Galaxy is, except the support from Samsung itself, a great Android smartphone with a very good (the best?) price for value. It's with 11,9mm the second slimmest Android phone after Nexus One with 11,5mm (right?) and has unlike the HTC phones a flash light and build in storage of 8GB. On most sites the Galaxy is (one of) the cheapest Android phones, I wonder if it's because Samsung is cheaper or HTC/Motorola more expensive by itself?
I personally would compare the i7500 with the HTC Hero, although in my opinion the i7500 still has a much better price for value.
Is it even possible to define if and which Android phone is a low, middle, or high-end smartphone?
Sure, it also depends for what purposes you bought and use your phone, but I still wonder were the i7500 would be if 1=low and 10=high end Android phone, and if there even is a number 10? I also think that the D-Pad is a big plus and not a minus in comparison to the scroll ball from HTC.
I just bought my captivate a few days ago and so far I love it. However it has started acting up more and more over the last couple days. I have my settings to "vibrate" whenever I click buttons. Sometimes after I click something the phone vibrates over and over again and I have noticed that the "home" button flashes when doing so. Eventually it stops but whatever application I am in crashes. Anyone know a fix for this problem or should I go exchange it for a new one?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi successfully got into adb in recovery mode fairly easily on my ubuntu 10.4 laptop using the following method- this should also work for a linux live boot from a usb flash drive
in one terminal tail and follow log messages
~$ tail -f /var/log/messages
In another terminal run the loop
Then
1. plugin usb and keep it plugged in
2. remove battery, eject sd card.
3. put battery in
4. press vol- and power
5. after around 6 seconds, your terminal with the log will show something like "new high speed USB..."
6. press vol- to select recovery
7. press the power button
8. IMPORTANT- as soon as you see a new log entry (something like "USB disconnect"), pop in the sd card
check your loop terminal for adb. if it doesn't work, repeat at step 2
I have an i9000M (Bell) Galaxy S that is unlocked. I have had different versions of Froyo on the phone in the last couple of months, Currently, I have JPO and it is working fine.
My first question is,
Is there a generic (Non Bell, Orange, Att, etc.) version of Android that works on any android phone? Also, what about a version that works on any brand of phone, sort of like WIndows on a PC. I know there are a sh*t load of different phones out there, but I was wondering if a generic version would work.
Question #2,
Can I flash a European version of Froyo onto my Canadian phone?
there I am new to this. I would like to find out some information in regards to and update for the samsung galaxy I7500.I live in Australia and it seems the phone cant be updated. Is this true. I have tried on many times to plug my phone into my computer via pc studio.
