Alright this may have been asked a few times, or maybe it could not of been asked. I just can't find the thread related to answering this question.
Okay so my question is, can I flash Galaxo 1.6.2 or GAOSP "without" ODIN flashing or updating my firmware to 1.6? and not then what consequences would occur if I don't flash firmware update before GALAXO 1.6.2 flash. My phone firmware version is I7500ZHJA1 and I believe that is the latest firmware for my region which is still Android 1.5.
I saw in samfirmware.com that there is already an official Android update for my device. If I download it and use Odin to install, will it erase all data in my phone (contacts, messages, games, etc.)?I know using Kies to update my android will not delete anything...

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo i downloaded Odin and "I7500XXII5-PDA-CL64494-REV5(VIA).tar" with the intention of overwting my providers startup ads and bloatware and saw in the instructions that I should delete the cache.img file in I7500XXII5-PDA-CL64494-REV5(VIA).tar. However when i did that and try to flash, odin reports: "Check image files!!"
View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my phone, I've had 2 lines show up at the top of my screen in the past couple of days. They're both multi-coloured and definitely look glitchy. They show up even in boot screens, fastboot, recovery, etc. I thought it might have been a problem with Galax0 that I was running, so I tried to re-flash it with Odin, and Odin seems to finish, but the phone does not actually get flashed. It stays at my previous firmware, with all apps installed, but when it reboots with Odin, the screen doesn't work (except in between the two lines at the top, so I can just see the bar at the top). I pull the battery and reboot, and it works, but is very glitchy.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a "backup" like the files that can be used to flash with Odin (phone, pda, bootloader and csc tar files)? That is, if I have a phone with some firmware I want to have in this format, how can I get it? I know about nandroid backup but that's a different format.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi think my gt-i7500 is bricked. i downloaded the 1.6 firmware(.tar) along with ODIN.. set up the downloading mode and used ODIN to flash it to 1.6. ODIN showed PASS in the window but the phone refuses to boot up. It remains frozen with the SAMSUNG sign. Recovery mode is not working either.

View 14 Replies View RelatedHas anyone tried flashing the phone from a GNU/Linux box using odin? How safe is it?
I'm using Fedora 12 x86.
I'm trying to flash my new Galaxy using Odin (because I got it sim-free and I don't have the market). I'm doing this on WinXP inside VMWare on Linux, unfortunately. It had only this to say: <1> Added! <1> Detected!
That is, after I filled in the filename and pressed start, the two boxes went yellow and the timer began counting but there was no other output. I killed it after about 45 mins. I've tried this with the II5 (one file) and IH7 (multiple files) firmware versions linked to from this site. Now, I guess the obvious culprit here is VMWare, but it seems odd that it would find the device and then give up (and NPS and mass storage work as well as expected). Also, even if I don't connect the Galaxy to the PC, the only way I can find to leave the 'downloading...' screen is to pull out the battery - is that normal? I did try with native WinXP on an old laptop too, but it's a 7-year-old installation and it wasn't playing ball... so I'm hoping someone here has a suggestion for how to proceed that doesn't involve a fresh Windows install?
Which firmware do you use?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an unlocked 02-germany Galaxy on Orange UK. This was all news to me today that the Galaxy users aren't entitled to Over-The-Air updates nor is it apparently a "Google" phone in the same way the HTC G1 is. (Samsung, when are we getting Donut?). I'm not clear what the distinction is. Maybe someone can tell me. This is a big let down to be honest, I wouldn't have probably bought the device if I knew this. Even app updates nots don't come through and my bro has been showcasing Donut on his G1 (also on Orange UK) all morning to make matters worse. Any news on when we get donut now? Is this the only non-OTA updated Android device. How does one confirm this? I presume the Magic is however.

View 42 Replies View RelatedIs it my imagination or does the radio in this version have lower reception than previous versions? It never was a stellar performer in this area, my G1 sitting next to my Galaxy would have much better reception (I'm talking like -80something dbm vs -110ish dbm- btw I pulled those numbers out of my a$$ cause I don't remember what exactly they were but there was that big a disparity when I looked right after I got my Galaxy). Now I'm having signal issues where I didn't before. Previously in my basement I'd get 1-2 bars of signal with edge reception (I only get 3G upstairs with my Galaxy). I installed I5 firmware yesterday and hdblog's galaxhero today after using H2 for AGES. Tonight I'm getting 0-1 bars, with very frequent full disconnects with no reception at all. ><

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with BT on my Galaxy, it somehow gets stuck and forgets the settings:
- If I go out of range with my BT headset, and than back in range, sometimes a single click on headset button will make it reconnect with the phone, as it should.
- But, sometimes it will not reconnect (even by manually reconnecting from the phone WirelessBluetooth menu), and also it cannot "Scan for devices" - a click on that will not do anything, the phone does not scan for other devices, even though BT seems to be on.
- If I restart BT at this point, it will forget its "Device name" and say "Galaxy" in that field. Also cannot search for devices.
- If I restart it again, the "Device name" will be "No name set, using account name"; scanning will not work. Further BT restarts keep it in this state, only restart of the phone helps.
I'm on JB2 firmware.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Samsung Galaxy K4 firmware update includes a new virtual keyboard alternative, named "Samsung keyboard", in addition to the stardard "Android keyboard". (Sorry, I have yet to succeed in taking screen shots; I will post some if I find any.) What are your thoughts on this? There are a bunch of different layouts ("Qwerty", "12 keypad", "20 keypad"), all accessible from a popup menu. All layouts seem to be missing a shift key (relying instead of a popup selection for "abc"/"Abc"/"ABC"/"Numeric and symbols"/"Emoticons"), and there seems to be no press-for-variants feature to access characters with umlauts. You can set the keyboard language. Available languages are: Automatic (based on carrier?), English, German, Dutch, Polish, French, Czech, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
All layouts use T9 prediction, and the dictionary adapts to the selected language. Also, it appears that the dictionary is not shared with the Andoid user dictionary (accessible within Settings->Locale). I like that they've done it. It shows that Samsung have not completely given up support for this device, that they do have developers assigned to it. The keys are nice and large, and they've made good use of the landscape format. I don't know if they are using a context-sensitive key-enlarging-function like HTC have, but my typo rate seems to have decreased. I find the lack of a shift key very inconvenient, especially when entering passwords. Having to open a popup to enter a capital is two, three, maybe four additional taps -- they could have made much better use of long-press and off-key swipes. The lack of the press-for-variants feature means that, if you require umlauts, you must either switch to the appropriate language or, if it doesn't exist, use another keyboard. Since none of the Scandinavian languages are supported, I cannot use this keyboard.
