is there a way to download files even if the phone doesnt support the format? example. i tried to download a .rar file and an .avi file but it says cannot resume download cause format not supported. is there a way around this and be able to download it anyway?

Samsung Galaxy S getting "Unsupported file format" on .mp3s in AllShare (DLNA). Want to stream music from Windows 7 computer to Android device. Connected AllShare to Windows Media Player 12 over WiFi G network to "Play file from server on my phone". I can browse PC media folders from the Galaxy S. In AllShare, I click an .MP3 from my PC library, add it to the AllShare playlist, then the circle spins for about 10 seconds and I finally get the pop-up error "Unsupported file format." All .mp3's are DRM-free unprotected files. They play fine directly from the MicroSD card through the standard Android Music app. Disconnected/reconnected WiFi, same results. Read a few other posts on various forums, a few people have the same issue. Looks like fewer are even trying to use DLNA like this. Heard plenty of "hypothetical" troubleshooting steps but still searching for someone who's actually tried the steps & got it to work. Some had success with other DLNA media servers or by using different software altogether. I want to specifically stream music from a PC to my SGS using DLNA & WMP. Great for portability. Any "dittos"? Resolutions? By the way this device is AWESOME (Sprint Epic 4G) Also I realize this post is verbose; I want it to easily appear for others' search results. Most of my music on my phone's stock player has been synced to my sd card is showing as unsupported files. I even have tracks from one album showing unsupported while the other 10 work fine. All are mp3 files. What am I doing wrong? I imported my itunes library or at least I thought I did. Can someone please explain to me step by step how to get my itunes files to media player and then to my Capitvate sd card? I'm about to pull my hair out after working on it for over 4 hours. I really don't understand all the technical terms most forum users are throwing about.

I converted a DVD to MP4 and put it on a friends Motorola Droid and it worked great, put it on my Eris and I could see the icon but it said it could not play the video, like it was an unsupported format? I know the Droid is using Android 2.0 and the Eris is using 1.5, anyone else play MP4 movies on their Eris?

When you click on it.. it asks to format... you click "format" and then the phone just freezes. If I receive a picture in a txt and I click on it, the phone freezes. When I plug my phone into the computer through the USB cable, mount, and try to format it through the computer it says windows is unable to complete the format. I've reset the phone to factory reset also, no luck.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I want to send a contact in my contact list I can via "share" in the contacts menu. It then attaches a .VCF attachment to my email. I can then send it to anyone via e-mail. I tried this with and iphone buddy and he was able to see and save the file as a contact perfectly. He then tried to send me one, but Gmail says that .VCF files are unsuported. How is it that they designed the phone to send them but not receive them. What am I missing here.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the Samsung Vibrant phone. I am a little intimidated by it but trying to learn things, but have two questions I need to find answers for quickly - for business reasons.
I found out how to put a file on my computer, but not how to name it...i.e. clients...that type of thing....
AND the guy that talked me into this said that I would be able to access my home computer with this phone so if I needed to send a file while away from the house, I could do that. BUT I cant seem to find that.
AND LASTLY...there seem to be a lot of aps on the phone already that I done want or wont use, but the TMobile guy (who uses a blackberry) could not seem to figure out how to get rid of them.
ALSO...for anyone looking for some cool covers for the phone...decalgirl.com has some great skins for the phone AND the Realook screne protector is wonderful...changes nothing and cant tell it is there, but do follow the directions as to the water to take all dust out of the air.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLong story: Went in, got my Vibrant, immediately downloaded a few apps to play/test the device in the store. I got handcent and barcode scanner. Went home, tried rooting phone, couldn't get into the recovery menu. Gave up on rooting for the moment and tried to download launcher pro, and immediately after it started the download it gave me a "download unsuccessful" error, regardless of whether I was connected via 3G or Wifi. I then tried downloading several other apps and got the same error. Afterwords, I tried clearing the market's cache, signing in/out of Google Talk, uninstalling the apps I had originally downloaded, rebooting the phone; nothing worked (and I was unable to reinstall the apps I had managed to install in the first place, due to the same error). I then attempted a factory reset and was unable to do that, given the error "No reset was performed because the System Clear service is unavailable." After going through tech support through everything I did, they asked me to do a hard reset of the phone, which I didn't realize used the same recovery menu as one must access to root the phone. Since I couldn't get into the recovery menu for whatever reason (I blamed my fingers at the time), I was told to go back to the store to swap my phone out for a new one. Did that, repeated the app downloading process but didn't connect it to anything other than a car charger, and the app store gave me the same error, and I'm again unable to perform a factory reset or a hard reset. I know it's not my fingers, though, because I was able to get into the recovery menu of a display phone at the store.I'm going back to the store tomorrow to swap my SIM out, since tech doesn't know what else to do with it, but I was wondering if you guys had any input.Short story: First symptom was all market downloads failed with error: Download unsuccessful. Second symptom was inability to perform a factory reset or a hard reset. Possible causes/solutions?EDIT: Problem seems to have been fixed by going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > (menu) > Filter > All > Download Manager > Clear Data. Will update if anything fails afterwards.

I've already deleted this picture from the Download folder, but anytime I download a new picture attachment, it still uses the 'unwanted' pic as the folder preview.I've even tried manually deleting the Download folder using AstroFile Manager.Everything I've tried doesn't seem to work.I desperately need help because currently I'm not able to download any picture from my Gmail account without that stupid picture showing up as the preview for the Download folder.

What format makes the least hassle to convert the latex to and show in android if we want it to work for versions 2.2+?
Normal bitmat images would be easiest I think, but my client want's vector-based format for maximum quality.
I just want to show the images not manipulate them. Should I try PDF, or SVG? I was also thinking about HTML, or what lib is recommended for that format?

1. I plan on going South Africa. According to this site, both the phone and 3g should work perfectly right? GSM World Coverage Map- GSM Country List by frequency bands
2. I have seen an app to unlock the Vibrant. It is by DaGentooBoy from XDA. Its called Samsung Galxy S Unlock. Would it be better for me to use this app or to just request T-Mobile to give me the unlock code. Are there any pros or cons for using either method.
3. If the OTA update or Froyo don't come out before I am gone, will I be able to get an OTA over wifi while I am in South Africa. Just to clarify, I will be using a local sim over there. I will discontinue from tmobile when I leave the US I know nothing of rooting. This is my first smartphone, so if possible I would be hesitant of doing any updates via the computer that requires me to loose all my info. I have too many apps and saved games and settings to download again so its just a scary thought of loosing it all.
4. Will google navigation work overseas. I have heard people say yes and no. I am hesitant to buy apps like co-pilot as they cost a lot and have mixed reviews, so I wanted to find out about this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to download the SMS app from XDA and the guy has it up as a zip file. I download it and extract it, and it's a folder with random crap in it. No apk.
Then I read that I just change the file name. I'm on a Mac, so I change the filename and it verifies if I want to change it from .zip to .apk and I say "yes." Put it on my card and Astro still doesn't recognize it. It's list, but it's an icon with a window and a gear in front of it.
I installed the Vanilla email app, no problem. Not sure what the deal is with this one.
