Aug 10, 2010every time i do volume down and power it just regular reboots. if i hold volume up and power it gives me power reset or upload mode. How do u get to download mode.

Sep 12, 2010This is probably a dumb question but this is my first phone that uses a sim card. If I go to settings and status for phone number it says unknown. On my previous Android phone with verizon it knew my number. The Google voice app doesn't seem to be able to read my number either but the phone itself seems to work fine.

Oct 9, 2010So I have updated my phone through T-mobile yesterday after I received service message and the phone never got past the "samsung vibrant" screen, it stays here after it plays the welcoming melody. After that, it simply won't start. I have tried hard reboot, factory reset, nothing worked. Did this happen to some of you as well? Any ideas how to get my phone working again?

Oct 9, 2010I have a Vibrant. The issue all started when I tried to install the 1.2ghz OC rom onto my phone. I had rommanager installed, and attempted to run it off the SD card, but when my phone booted up it had lost my applications, everything.
The problem I'm running into now is that the phone seems to be unable to use its mass storage. Every time I attempt to reinstall an application from the market it says it doesn't have enough memory. Under settings it says "unavailable" for the internal mass storage.
I tried using the volume buttons and power button to enter recovery/dl mode but every time I do I cannot make selections. If I use the power button to try to select it does nothing. In fact the "up" volume button makes it go down, and the other "down" button also doesn't do anything.
Since I have no applications I can't use clockwork recovery, even though I know I have one. Also, Odin is unable to connect to the phone, so I can't reload factory. Kies also doesn't recognize the phone.
It also won't even recognize the SIM card, says it has no reception when it clearly does.

Sep 8, 2010I'm sure this first question has been answered, but I haven't been able to find it. I have a Vibrant and a Mac Book with OS 10.6.4. When I plug in my phone and mount the SD card, nothing happens. I've learned elsewhere that this seems to be a problem with this phone and Macs and I've enabled USB debugging. That works, but for me it is not a proper workaround. Has this problem been fixed? Is there some update for either my phone or my computer I can install that would make it work like it should? Also, a question about my contacts. Like most, Gmail saves every person I email in my contacts. This is fine because on Gmail.com they're separated into "my contacts" and "other contacts". On my G1 I was able to only have "my contacts" in my contacts, but on my Vibrant it just threw everyone in there. I was able to get around it by saying only show contacts with numbers, but that's not exactly what I want either. Is there a way to tell the vibrant to only show certain groups of your google contacts?

I've tried simply restarting the process from the beginning, but that didn't work, and the progress bar still goes nowhere. If I do volume down+call+end, I get the same thing, but under the "can not find" error it says "recovery mode." But that's it. Oct 3, 2010I just got a Bell Vibrant and unlocked it to use on AT&T. Everything's been working fine, but I do have a minor problem.
When I am in SMS messaging, most of my conversations have contact names on them, but on a few, it shows only the number. The number is clearly the number listed on the contact in my contact list, but the messaging app(stock) doesnt seem to recognize it. This is weird, because in the LauncherPro Messaging widget, it shows the names correctly, but when I go into the SMS messaging app, it doesnt recognize the contact.

Aug 22, 2010I followed the instructions on the how-to root sticky, but when I power down the device and then hold vol down+up simultaneously and power it back up to get to recovery mode (to root), it boots normally. I've done this 7 times now, with two fingers holding down the volume buttons (one each) and then pressing the power button until the device shows signs of life.

Aug 27, 2010If you go into settings/date and time the first option is a check box that says Automatic (use network-provided values). If you uncheck that it does not stick through a reboot. Upon restarting your phone this box will be checked once again. Now for the interesting part. If I put the phone into flight mode, uncheck the automatic box and then change the time and/or date. The instant I re-check automatic the time is reset correctly. How is this possible? I thought that flight mode actually turned the radio off. If it does indeed turn the radio off then how is the phone able to instantly set the time to the correct value?

Sep 2, 2010I was able to access recovery mode on my bricked phone in a way that all of you may think is stupid.I have a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. My phone somehow bricked it self a few days ago. I wasnt able to get into recovery mode at all, no matter what I tried, how many times, and I tried every single method with no success.People on XDA Forums were mentioning about heat somehow allowing you to access the recovery mode. Some said putting it facedown in the sun for a few minutes, some said plugging it in for 15-20 min, some said playing games on the phone to heat it will would also allow them to access the un-accessible recovery mode on their phone.I tried all of them. I put my phone in the oven for 5 minutes, twice, last night, did not work. Ok I thoght to myself. Maybe I need more heat. To get it hot to the touch.So I tried once again today, and what a shock, I was able to get in recovery mode via the 3 button - WITH BATTERY OUT, HOLD VOL UP + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON, then insert battery, and let go of the power button once your phone turns on.Took 3 seconds to set everything to restore, in the recovery mode.It worked for me. If you are going to try this, maybe try with a hair blow dryer first.dont have one of those, so I couldnt, to be safer.I will not be held accountable for any damage you do if you leave it in too long or damage your phone in any way.This worked for me. Im happy I got it working.The only thing which worries me now What if heat or cold can cause your phone to brick itself? phone bricked itself out of nowhere, no idea how.

Sep 25, 2010Just bought a Vibrant off of CL. I got it unlocked and it seems to be running well off of AT&T. I had a few questions though.
1) Whenever it is in the sleep/standby mode it will randomly flash on. I won't get any new emails or txt messages but it does stay on for a while until the screen timeout period ends
2) It does display a "Refreshing SIM data" message at the bottomish area every few minutes. Is this normal or is this an AT&T thing...
3) I was able to reset everything from going to the Settings>privacy>factory data reset but the instructions for a hard reset of "turning on the phone while holding down the volume down button" did not work. Has anyone been able to pull this off?
All in all I'm pretty jazzed about the phone. I like the Swype typing a lot as well as the overall speed and app installs. I'm coming from a work iPhone and an old school bar phone that could only call and txt. My wife has a iPhone4 and even though the facetime feature is nice I still don't like the restrictiveness of Apple products.

Sep 10, 2010Deleting shortcuts on the application pages doesn't seem to work.
I press the shortcut icon I want to delete, hold, wait for the vibration, drag to the garbage icon, and release. When I go back to the application page the shortcut icon is still there.
This technique works perfectly on the home pages, just not on the application pages.
