Is there any way to turn off the searching for signal tones? I get the little "bong bongs" whenever I'm in a subway. The tone plays through the main speaker even when using a headset.

Does anyone have any way to turn off the annoying beep the phone makes when it loses it's signal? I know changing the notification volume works, but that will also turn off my system and text notifications. Is there any way to target just the signal beep?

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I am on DD10, and when I go to use Google Maps Navigation, it just keeps searching for GPS.?

"For those of you having battery issues I found a way to Dramatically improve the battery life.
First things first, go into Settings> About Phone> Battery> Battery Use> Cell Standby. Assuming your phone has been on, or off the charger for ~10 minutes, it should show Time Without Signal at around 50%. Next thing, press Home and bring up the dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#* (Do not press "Call"). After a second, it should bring up the "Testing" menu.
Go into Phone Information, press MENU, and tap "select radio band." You should experience a Force Close, don't panic, this was supposed to happen. Scrolling down shows that the preferred network type is GSM auto (prl). What this means is that even though you are connected to a CDMA network, your phone is trying to find a GSM network, preventing the radio from sleeping, and causing excessive battery drain. Remedy this by tapping GSM auto (prl) and changing it to CDMA auto (prl).
Now your done, your TWS should drop dramatically, and you should experience much better battery life!
Note: You need to do this every time you reboot."
I've changed it on my phone just now and the service still works as normal. I guess we'll see if the battery life increases. If this works and with overclock widget I should be getting some crazy battery life now!
What I am needing is some ring tones other than the default ones that come on this phone. I have found a few on the Market but so far none are filling the bill as to what I need. Basically I have a little hearing loss so prefer basic tone type ring tones rather than a tune or clip from some song or movie. Funny but I kinda like the ring tone of the old standard phone ringer. Can someone suggest something on the Market or some other alternative? I suppose it's as easy as downloading anything using my computer and sending it to my cell phone and using it from there.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust got my Moment and noticed that I can not have different tones for text, voicemail, and email. They all have to be the same as well as when I plug the usb cord into and disconnect it from the phone. Any idea if 2.1 is going to allow people to customize the tones for the phone? I really depend on those. I use the sound to determine weather or not I need to get to the phone to check on it or if I can just ignore it. Also any idea on the voice command? The one that comes with it is worthless, I really liked the "live search" from the instict and you would think Samsung would be able to put in the moment since it was in the instinct.

Sometimes it takes a matter of a min to lock on other times much longer, and this past weekend I had an indecent where it never found the signal for about a 1/2hr or more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis phone has to be one of the worst at signal iv had. My wifes TP2 which was mine i thought was bad but this is horrible. I get 0 to 1 bar on my moment and she get 1-2 bars. A few times it is searching for service and this is all at my home which sucks cause i cant make calls or talk on the phone long before it drops. Is there anything out there to help improve this that isnt to costly? I know Sr print has the air wave thing but that is a monthly fee. I'm not gonna pay to improve my signal every month on top of my service already. What im looking for is maybe an antenna that i could stick somewhere to help boost it enough to keep me from searching for service.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am on 2.1 and couldn't get a god damn GPS signal yesterday while driving. Is this THAT much of a problem? I am about to throw this POS out of the window. It took me 2.5 hours to get somewhere yesterday which should have been a fucking hour. What, if anything, will Sprint do? I have had this since Nov last year and I want to get rid of it.
Also, this morning, no GPS on or anything and was on charge all night, the battery went to 50 percent according to the battery widget in an HOUR.
Also, widgets being moved from 1 home screen to another while it's being used and without MY interaction.
I have a sprint powered samsung moment i never used a custom rom i just have the 2.1 eclair update and i had the phone for a while no problems. But yesterday i dropped it at the bar i picked it up and nothing was wrong it didnt even get scratched. later that night it needed to be recharged and died on my but when i hooked my charger up the batttery didnt display on the screen so i tryed a difrent charger same thing i still let it charge all night but it wont start up. i want to try manuelly restart it but how? and ideas guys? thanks, Jeff
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving a strange issue that after searching for a few days I dont see anyone else having it.Every once in a while the 3 led's will not turn off. The home, menu and back lights. Then when the phone tries to go to sleep it automatically wakes back up and gets stuck in a sleep/wakeup loop. Sometimes unlocking it and hitting menu twice resolves it but other times I have to restart the phone. Im thinking either pandahome or handcent are causing it but Ive got a few friends running the same phone and those apps that arent having issues. If anyone else is having this happen please let me know.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt wasn't long so I never paid attention before, but since the upgrade to 2.1 it takes my Moment around 2mins and 50secs to turn on (from black samsung logo to home screen) and about 50 secs before gps and everything is loaded up and ready to use. I timed it to find out if this was normal.
How long does it take your Moment to power on and load up?
I dropped my phone in water n everything works except the trackpad acts up and tries to pull the camera up allt the time. Can I turn it off or turn off the hotkeyfor the trackpad?

Maybe I'm just missing something, but I don't see any options for tuning off the LCD! I really hate sticking my phone in my pocket with the home screen active. You never know who your going to call.

The phone worked great all afternoon after I got it but 30 minutes ago I pulled it out to enter something into my calendar and it was off. I tried to turn it on but it seems dead.The battery has at least 40% remaining last time I looked and it is charging right now just in case. Anybody else have this happen? Is there some special way to turn this on that I don't know about? I held down the hang up button to turn it on and it is not working.Any ideas? (The Sprint rep at the store where I swapped with the other person said the warranty sticks to where ever the ESID is active - meaning on my account so I do have the warranty for it).

I was recently on an airplane that had WiFi wireless connectivity (Delta using GoGo). I had my Moment and wanted to try it out. The problem is that the only way I could find to turn off the cell radio, as required by the FAA, is by putting the phone into "Airplane Mode". But, in Airplane mode, I could not get the WiFi to turn on.
So, what I really wanted was not "Airplane mode" but WiFi on and Cell Radio turned off. But I could not figure out any way to do that. Is it possible?
Flashed DD03 and rooted. Even though I have SD Card notifications unchecked, I still get the annoying sound when plugging in to USB port, charging, etc.

They gave me a new moment plus a $50 credit, but I have a question about this new phone. When waking my old phone, I only had to press menu to unlock it. This new phone has an iPhone style "slide to unlock" feature that I don't like. This is the way the phone came. Before I even set it up, so its not an app. Does anyone have any idea how to turn it off? I know the old screen is still there because if the slide screen lags at all before taking me to my home screen I briefly see it. Is this a function of the newer moments?

I've tried restarting the phone which helps but eventually it starts acting up again. As i type this, I haven't touched the phone in about 3 mins and the screen is still on. Any help? Any suggestions on how to fix this? Hard reset? I took the battery out and turned the phone back on. Now I have a black screen with an icon of a phone...triangular, yellow error symbol...image of a computer. I took the battery out, held the down volume button, camera button, and power button. Now I'm back to the "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET" screen.
