I am trying to use the navigation function of the Droid X, but when I go to navigate to a location, it just sits at searching for GPS and never gets a signal. Now if I open Maps it shows my location almost instantly.

When trying to use the Google Navigation app it just displays "searching for gps." at the bottom of the screen and never locks in on my location. In the location and security settings both "use wireless networks" and "use gps satellites" are checked.Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the phone?
View 49 Replies View RelatedI've noticed within the past month or two my Eris has been having a hard time searching for a gps signal. I'm on the Leak v.3. Sometimes it takes a matter of a min to lock on other times much longer, and this past weekend I had an indecent where it never found the signal for about a 1/2hr or more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to 2.2, I've noticed my Navigation takes MUCH longer to search for GPS. It now either never gets directions (the "Getting driving directions." pop-up box just sits there forever until I back out) and I have to turn GPS off and on then back out of Navigation and restart it OR it'll get the directions but say "Searching for GPS." for at least a couple minutes.

"For those of you having battery issues I found a way to Dramatically improve the battery life.
First things first, go into Settings> About Phone> Battery> Battery Use> Cell Standby. Assuming your phone has been on, or off the charger for ~10 minutes, it should show Time Without Signal at around 50%. Next thing, press Home and bring up the dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#* (Do not press "Call"). After a second, it should bring up the "Testing" menu.
Go into Phone Information, press MENU, and tap "select radio band." You should experience a Force Close, don't panic, this was supposed to happen. Scrolling down shows that the preferred network type is GSM auto (prl). What this means is that even though you are connected to a CDMA network, your phone is trying to find a GSM network, preventing the radio from sleeping, and causing excessive battery drain. Remedy this by tapping GSM auto (prl) and changing it to CDMA auto (prl).
Now your done, your TWS should drop dramatically, and you should experience much better battery life!
Note: You need to do this every time you reboot."
I've changed it on my phone just now and the service still works as normal. I guess we'll see if the battery life increases. If this works and with overclock widget I should be getting some crazy battery life now!
I am on DD10, and when I go to use Google Maps Navigation, it just keeps searching for GPS.?

View 30 Replies View RelatedMy droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.
On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.
Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?
I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.
yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.
Recently I've been getting this "searching for GPS" when using navigation and it never seems to lock.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNavigation has been working great since I got the phone in November. Starting yesterday the phone gets stuck on "SEARCHING FOR GPS." It's so odd - because it goes through the whole FROM, TO and even gives me the summary - 5.2 miles to destination etc.
Then it can't find the GPS? I've tried pulling the battery and uninstalling the last App I installed (which was handscent SMS). Could an app update have killed it? I think Yelp & Astro Manager recently had updates.
Earlier this weekend me and a couple of friends took a trip north to one of our favorite oyster farms for some good oyster. On the way up there I volunteered to use my gps on my phone to guide us there. Using the Sprint Nav app while we started to hit the mountains I lost signal on my phone and when that happened the app reverted back to showing me a guesstimate of where to turn and then it said eventually its said "could not cannot connect to server" or something similar. So we were basically driving blind and I was looking like my Evo wasnt worth the I payed for. What do you guys do in events like these where you get stuck in the booneys trying to navigate without a cell signal?

I had just left the gps on, so it would be ready for maps/etc. Is there a way to tell which program is accessing it? My understanding was that you could leave the gps switched on with the droid x because it would not actually use it, unless a program called for it.

My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
I finally upgraged from my LG Dare to the Motorola Droid X. On the first day I loved it! No issues at all. Today is the second day and I CANNOT get 3g signal. I have power cycled, pulled battery straight out and left out for a minute, turned all options on and off(wifi,bluetooth,airplane mode, gps) NOTHING IS WORKING AND I AM OVER IT! I am in the same spot I was yesturday. In a big city, full bars but cannot get 1x or 3g to come up. No navi, no internet, no picture messages!

I thought maybe I was accidentally touching the shortcut on my home screen so I removed it, but it still happens. I "went along with it" as it asked me to show my gps settings since I have gps disabled. So I enabled it to see if it would bring me to a map, but it just brings me to the default navigation screen. Running 2.2, stock rom, but super user access.

Sometimes I would only be getting -96 yet the bars would be full (all instances I was in 3G mode) do the bars take into account anything else besides dbm?

View 5 Replies View RelatedHas anyone had problems with their Moto Droid overheating while navigating and charging. I noticed that it really was not charging so I went out to my battery app and it showed the temp being 135. I immediately unplugged the phone, shut it off and took the battery out to hold up to the AC vent. I cooled it to below 90 then plugged it back in and it started to charge to completion (100%) without navigation turned on. The problem is if it is not plugged in the screen blanks out without going into the settings to change it. So I removed SETCPU just in case that was the cause and I tried it on my way home from work(20min). When I got home it was at about 118 to 120. So my question is has anyone else experienced this navigating while charging heat thing? Should I be worried about that high of a temperature? Also would you happen to know at what temp your phone fails to charge anymore because of the heat?

I started Maps on the phone and successfully loaded the map from the web. The map shows up on the phone, but when I try and go to navigation I have to enter start and end points. Is there a way to get the My Maps map to transfer straight to Navigation?
