Sep 2, 2010I bought my new Samsung Galaxy S phone 3 weeks back. I am quite satisfied with it, but i have quite an irritating problem, my GPRS keeps on going back every now and then, like once every 2 minutes and then i have to turn the Flight mode on/off to bring it back. It might not be a problem in countries where 3G is available but here in India it's quite unsettling to see such a nuance in such a wonderful OS. I know it's not a problem with the carrier(Vodafone for me) as nokia phones work seamlessly in the same area.

Mar 10, 2010Ok I first just want to say that this phone is so nice, and I was so scared to get it from everybody on this thread complaining but I don't see why.
-I had no mounting problems.
-Memory is awesome compared to the g1
-I don't see no lag. I think people say this because of the vibrate when touch method samsung has on it.
-I actually like the touchwiz interface over the boring silver android. Messaging is awesome with the picture of the friend you messaging.
-The cube is pointless though, but friends love it.
-It's plastic but it really don't feel cheap at all.
-Battery life isn't too good, but what smartphone battery is? What else do you expect from a phone with that nice of a display screen.
-No reboots
-I haven't had a force close yet, but when I had the g1 i had at least 10 a day.
-Has to be the nicest camera phone since my old n95.
-There was complaints about overlapping objects on the home screen. I love that it can do that.
-My only complaint is the 4 buttons on the home screen. They are just simply pointless.
I feel alot are just being too picky. This has to be the best android phone behind the nexus one. Some questions though...
1.Can the home screen go into landscape mode?
2. Anyway to lower the brightness of the camera flash. It's blinding lol
3.Im trying to install some apps from my g1. (cracked) Most install but some don't. Is this problem because the apps are only for android 1.6 + ?
4. Anyone have any super thin case's? Where did you find them?
5. On the commercial about this phone with the comic artist. He changed the color of the picture with some app. What app is that? Is it pre-installed?
6.Does the phone lag any with a new keyboard installed? I was going to install swype or better keyboard.
7.Is there not any light's to show that the phone is charging, or when you have notifications?
8.This might sound ******ed, but is the screen glass?
Samsung Moment :: Physical Keyboard Opened In Landscape Mode
Feb 6, 2010When opening the physical keyboard, the phone first comes out of sleep, and then switches from portrait to landscape. This is typically not too noticeable, but sometimes it takes up to 5 seconds. Is there a way to make it so that opening the keyboard just resumes this phone already in landscape? Also, has anyone figured out a way to get the home screen to respect switching to landscape when rotated, like all well-developed apps do?

Mar 26, 2012there are those of us, who due to whatever reason (helmet cams, preference for posture, etc) want to record videos in portrait mode.
What happens (on my sgs2) is that the video records just fine in whatever resolution I pick... but it records it 90 degrees rotated to the right.
The solution that is usually offered is that "you can rotate it after!" yes... but then you have to CROP part of the image and lower the resolution. 1920 x 1080 recordings end up having to be cropped so that half of the view is cut out , or even more if you are maintaining a real aspect ratio.
The questions about "why not just hold it sideways", are just as pointless as the statement by steve jobs telling iphone4 users that they were holding their phones wrong.
is this something that can be remedied ? or has google decided that people should only record videos when their phones are in landscape mode?
i understand that we cant see landscape resolution in portrait mode; but can't we just have a viewport into the camera, but record in properly oriented landscape mode? so that playback on a computer will show the full resolution, even though we will only see part of it on the phone..

Sep 9, 2010Here are a few tips with the Fascinate camera:
1. You can access Panorama mode from the Scene menu in the top left. With Panorama mode... you will be guided by a green box, when you get close to take the next snapshot, move very slowly... especially when the green box is almost centered on your screen. This will produce better pictures with less blur.
2. Turn on Anti-shake and Auto-contrast in the settings menu. Turn on Grid if you'd like extra help with taking better photos.
3. Long press the shutter button to auto focus before taking the photo. It's a two-stage button that will take a little bit to auto focus, but it's better than not doing it before taking a photo.
Samsung Captivate :: Flight Mode (Turn Phone Off And On) 3G Not Working
Sep 16, 2010Not sure if anyone has faced this issue on Samsung Captivate? I searched the forum but did not find this posted. So I took a flight and found out something weird
1. Enable Flight Mode
2. Turn Off the phone
3. Turn on the phone
4. Disable Flight Mode
-You see the 3G icon appear now. Try accessing the internet, go to the browser, or sync your email - it does not work.
5. Turn off the phone
6. Turn on the phone
-- Now everything should be working as normal
I tried it a couple of times again to be sure and every time the issue occurs. There was no wifi access when I tried the above.

Nov 10, 2009From what I can tell, if you turn on WiFi the phone never sleeps even in standby mode. Is this a known issue or has anyone else noticed this. I noticed this using Spare Parts and turning off and on things until I saw it was wifi that keeps it awake.

Sep 11, 2010I tried flashing my Galaxy S, but when i turned it on, it stayed on the boot menu for 10 minutes and nothing happened, so i had to remove the battery. I tired putting it in download mode and it didnt work eiter. When i plugged in the usb, it showed the charging icon with the loading sign, however the loading sign did not go away, again I had to remove the battery. Aug 24, 2010I have helped some friends updating their SGS phones with the new software from the samsung firmwares website. However, now I'm stuck with a problem on one of the phones: It simply won't go into download mode. Normally, I press the volume down + menu key and while pressing them I push the power button. But nothing happens, excemt the phone starts up just like normal. I've done it the exact same way with all the models, but this model does not react like the rest of them. Today, I successfully updated 3 models this way, but model number 4 would not go into download mode. The model has the JM2 firmware now. The other 3 models had JM1 firmware, even though they were all purchased at the same date. Is there another way of getting the SGS into download mode?
