Which voice app do people prefer? I've heard a lot about Vlingo, but Edwin is funny (tell it you love it). Which do you you prefer and why?And while I'm thinking of it, is it possible to replace the standard Google voice think on the keyboard with another program?

I tried searching for the question I'm about to ask and didn't find any threads so here it goes. Can someone post the steps to setting up Google Voice as visual voice mail for the Captivate? I know it's probably something very simple but I just can't figure it out ( yes, I'm a bit slow ).
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am using Captivate on the AT&T network and looking into goggle voice. Since the main feature I am interested in (for now) is the visual voice mail, I was thinking of getting the option without the GV number and therefore, keeping my cell phone number. I have several questions:
1. Does this work well with the Captivate phone?
2. Is there any delay in getting the voice mails by going through GV?
3. Does this eat into my data plan at all? Currently, I am only on the 200 mb plan per month.
4. If I try to get text messages through GV, would that not use up my data plan and instead come through my Internet connection ( which could at times be free if I am in a WiFi zone)?
I am curious in what it is. They say it is a great app, but can somebody explain to me what it is and what it does?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I both have Hero's and after the recent updates our phone takes forever to dial a number. It was bad before going to 2.1 but now it's terrible. It takes about 10 to 15 seconds to actually dial out. Any suggestions? We both have Google Voice but it dials slow regardless if we're using Google Voice or the standard dialer.
View 49 Replies View RelatedAlright, so its day 3 of my time with the captivate... so far so good. coming from my iPhone 2g, I will say the device is amazingly fast by comparison... Also, I have been able to make and receive calls from my office and my in-laws house. two places that had been frustrating dead-zones before. So I am happy. Now, I'm switching over to Google Voice for my SMS, since its free, usable on desktop, etc.I am also using LauncherPro as my Launcher.I am not rooted and don't really plan on rooting.A couple Questions:
- I LOVE the puzzle-piece unlock when there is a Text waiting, is there any way to have this become the standard unlock screen?
- Or, alternatively, can I at least get it to work for texts waiting on google voice? Any way to expand the puzzle functions to include email?
- Is there a good Google Talk widget?
- Is there something I can change to improve facebook notifications? It seems I don't get any, unless I open the app. I tried the widget, but that seems to be just a news feed. Am I missing some setting for push notifications?
I finally got GV visual voicemail working using my carrier number as my GV number. it took 2 days of frustration.now, from what I understand, i should be able to use GV to send text/SMS messages.is that true?when i launch GV app, i don't have any options to compose messages. how is that supposed to work?

It does some of the same things that the Google one apparently does (no setting alarms, though, too bad).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI foolishly installed google voice on my Captivate before listening to all my AT&T voice mails.After I did this I realized that I had a bunch of voice mails on AT&T voice mail, and now I can't figure out how to get to the AT&T voice mails.Any suggestions? Do I need to de-activate google voice on my voice mail then get the AT&T messages, then re-activate the google voice on my voice mail?

I am able to send and rec sms through google voice and my new GV # but I can only send sms from my att number. I cannot receive any sms from my att number and people who are sending them do not get any kind of message they just get lost in the network somewhere. People in general and my boss are getting mad because they think I am just ignoring them.

I am not talking about flashing the ROM but rather stopping Sense and loading the normal UI. For example when I say, "Call Candace" it asks, "Did you say 'Call Candace?'" and when I say "Yes", it waits for a moment then goes back to my home screen. If I say, "No", it proceeds to the next name that sounds like what I said. If I say "Yes" to the next name, it closes Nuance and goes back to my home screen. I have gone through the Adapt process. Sprint has tried to fix it and ended up giving me a new phone. Samsung has been stumped by this.

The SYM button and the one to the left of it are blanked out - meaning they are just black boxes and clicking/pressing them does nothing. It is bad enough that this screen comes up everytime you dock the phone in the car, but it is even more annoying that the "home" button is hijacked so that anytime you press it from any other program it takes you back to the "Car Home" instead of the main home. I would love to have an App that would allow you to designate a different program to open when in the dock, such as Quick Dial.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am an android user, using sony xperia z with 4.3. I have problem about the google voice (GV for now) and keyboard, im not the same as everybody with missing GVT or wanting to disable it, i actually like it a lot, especially because it support my language (not english).
using voice input is easy:
1. i press the GV icon
2. i talk
3. text coming out, there will be miss typed/heard sentences
4. you know, if the system doubt your speech and want to correct it, you just tap the word with grey underline,it indicating that it have multiple option
5. then you choose the correct sentences
My step number 4 is a problem, because the correction that pop up to correcting/delete sentences is being blocked by keyboard, that is why i say it also a keyboard problem. so i cannot choose anything from it. and i have this problem since 4.2.2, the first day i upgraded it to 4.3 is okay, but suddenly it happen again. i don't think i will resetting or formatting because i have a lot of app and chat history that i cannot delete.

I'm coming from a Blackberry and I love that I was able to backup my entire phone on my computer with the desktop software. Is there any comparable application or software for Android (even if its not free) where I don't have to root my phone?
