Samsung Captivate :: Backup Application / Program For Android
Nov 13, 2010
I'm coming from a Blackberry and I love that I was able to backup my entire phone on my computer with the desktop software. Is there any comparable application or software for Android (even if its not free) where I don't have to root my phone?

When i click on batch, then run to backup my apps it jumps back to the Backup/Restore screen with all the apps, nothing gets backed up. I have backed up before with Titanium and it worked. I reinstalled Busybox, didn't help. If i uninstall and reinstall will i lose all the things i did like freeze apps etc ? When i try to update through the marketplace it says installation error, package file was not signed correctly.

Newbie here! Just got my Captivate today!
Guess I have to wait for 2.2 to be able to back it up to my PC? Looks like the Samsung Kies program isn't available for the US right now and I don't want to root it until after the update.
My PC doesn't even see it. I changed my USB settings in the phone to "ask on connection", chose "mass storage" and two new Removable Disks popped up (in My Computer) but both ask me to insert a disk in the drive.
Am I trying to treat this android like an iphone when I shouldn't be?

Okay a weird this has been happening on my Behold II... After a power cycle one program disappears from the application drawer. The programs that have disappeared are Handcent, dolphin browser, Facebook, Live Bible, Evernote. Others could have but I have not noticed. When I go into "My downloads" in the market the program is still there but when I try to open it it fails to open. I have to uninstall then re-install the program. I only lose one program at a time though? This was happening last week so I did a factory reset and everything was fine until this morning. I have been running GDE home so the next step will be to remove GDE and see if it continues to happen. There have been a few other things happening as well the day after I reset the phone it would not boot up it just got stuck at the "android" screen I had to go into the recovery console and wipe it again to get it to boot up, also twice yesterday the phone just started vibrating continuously the screen would not turn so I had to remove the battery and restart the phone. I do not have the phone rooted.

So couple months ago I installed a application backup program that basically tracked what I installed. I had a log in for it. Well just rooted and knew I had everything backed up. Only problem is I forgot the name of the program! It was not My back up, or anything I had to pay for.

I rooted and then did this after downloading clockwork/rom manager:
How to Install ClockWork Recovery:
1. On the menu there should be an option labeled FLASH CLOCKWORK RECOVERY.
Press it.
2. Once a popup says that it has been succesful press BACKUP CURRENT ROM
3. Your phone will now restart and backup your ROM
4. If your phone does not start backing up and instead boots into a blue menu use the volume
keys to select reboot now and then press the power button. Try to do all the steps again.
5. Wait for it to finish and then it should restart.
Is this considered a Nandroid backup? Is there anything else I need to do as far as backups or is this the best method?
This will allow me to go back to my stock Rom at any point , is that correct?
Then I should use Titanium Backup for data/apps/settings?

Ok I figured out how to delete the ATT bloatware off the Captivate using Titanium Backup. But how do I reinstall it? I only deleted 'ATT Family Maps' for now until I can figure out how to reinstall things, incase I have a problem later and need to go back to ATT. I clicked 'backup' before i deleted it. But I don't know what buttons to press to get stuff back from the backup.

When I try to backup using TB after the SRE I get a Warning that reads;
Your system settings will prevent you from restoring applications. To correct this, go to your phone's Settings, then in "Applications" and tick the "Unknown Sources" checkbox.
There is no such option....
When I run batch restore I get an "Install Blocked' message.
I get; For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android market.
What is happening here?
I'm running JH7 with the SRE 1.3-Bloat version.

I just got 2.1 installed and love the difference (didn't used the leaked versions). After flashing and reinstalling the apps using MyBackup, I am left disappointed that the data that goes with the apps didn't make it. I am missing all my Mileage app entries, Storm8's long list of game data, etc. Is there a backup app that would have saved all the application data?

Without having to backup the entire data partition, is there a program that will backup 'private' applications. For example, I am using Astro File Manager. When I go to Application Manager/Backup, some programs are listed as private so I can't select them to backup.

There is an application in Captivate called "AT&T Hot Spots". What is this application and how does it work? I read about AT&T Wi-Fi, a free Wi-Fi access from AT&T at various locations in US. I read that it is free for iPhone users and some BB users. I am not sure if it is free for us Captivate users. How do one find out.

I am about to embark on the ROOTING journey for my new Droid-X, and wanted to know if there was a way to backup the phone so that I could get it back EXACTLY to where it is before the rooting. If not, is there a way to get it 100% back to factory default settings? I haven't really customized it yet, so if I break it during rooting or BRICK it, I know there are UNBRICKING steps posted already, but I want to make sure I don't end up with a FUBAR phone during this process, or afterwards.
