Android :: Replace Standard Droid JSON Parser For Better Performance?
Mar 23, 2010
I know that Android has a JSON parser baked in but I was wondering if it was worth using something that offered better performance (like Jackson - see http://jackson.codehaus.org/) ? Anybody tried that ?

I have looked there, and xda is my next stop, but I would like to ditch Sense and use the standard Android UI. Does anyone know if this is possible? I am not talking about flashing the ROM but rather stopping Sense and loading the normal UI. I am not having any real problems with the Sense UI per se but from playing with other Android devices I think I prefer the normal interface.

I'm looking into writing an Android game, tough I don't curerntly own an Android device. For those of you who own a device, how does the performance on the emulator relate to real device performance? I'm especially interested in graphics related tasks. This obviously depends on both the machine running the emulator, and the specific device in question, but I'm talking rough numbers here. This question is a duplicate, but since that post is heavily outdated, I figured it's irrelevant by now.

I'm starting to develop an application for Google Android and heavily relying on a web API that can deliver data in a restful way via json or xml. I now have to decide which library to choose.
I saw that google includes org.json classes in the API but haven't tested them yet.
How are your experiences? What library/API should I use and why?

In my Android client I want to receive JSON objects from a server. By googling I found a lot of different possibilities how to best parse the InputStream from the Server, but most of them wrote their own parser. Isn't there a library which does this parsing for me? Or how should I best implement it by myself?

Is there anyway to get rid of the standard email app on my Android phone? It seems to be permanently stuck there in the bottom dock (along with "Phone", "Browser" and "Applications").
Since I use Gmail and the Gmail app, the built in Email app isn't used and I would much rather switch the icon there with the Gmail app. Is this possible somehow?

I manage a project where users upload JPEG images for processing. Generally the images are taken with Nikon cameras, but recently one user took images with a Droid and the client software did not recognize the Droid JPEG images for upload. The client software developer said it's because they read images written in the standard JPEG file interchange format (JFIF), and Droid JPEGs are not in this format. Why, and can this be corrected?

New Android developer here - I'm hoping this is simple.
I want to create a "row-based" prefs dialog, like you see in most standard apps. You know, black background, fading-line separators, bigger/bold label text for each entry, smaller description text, perhaps a checkbox/down arrow.
Is there a standard object in the Android API for this? If not, how do people usually create these?

I have wrote a ContentHandler for SAX parser to retrieve data from and xml file, but it does't work on 2.1-update1, but works fine on 2.2, What is on earth is the changes, anyone knows?
The problem I encountered is exactly the same as stated at: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=11223
----
*Reported by m.de.kwant, Sep 14, 2010*
My application uses a urlconnection to retrieve a soap response. This XML is run through the default saxparser available in the java/android lib.
In android version 2.1 the XML is not parsed correctly. I fact there seems to be no parsing at all, while the raw input is available.
In android version 2.2 the input XML is parsed and the return result from my handlers is correct.
In short. SaxParser on 2.1 does nothing (no result, no error, no parsing), Saxparser on 2.2 works like it supposed to work.
Are there any work arounds for this problem ?
*Comment 1 by project member e...@google.com, Sep 14, 2010*
you can have a look at the differences between 2.1 and 2.2 yourself.
