Samsung Captivate :: Install An App - Game - Says - This Application Has Access To The Following
Nov 3, 2010
When I am about to install an app (game) it says:
"This application has access to the following:"
Your Location
coarse (network-based) location, fine (GPS) location
Network Communication
full Internet access
Phone calls
read phone state
What does all this mean? For the internet part, I have limited data per month, will it really add up...I have 200 MB/month.

I'm kind of new to Android. Only have had this phone for a few weeks, switched over from the iPhone. Anyway, I'm having trouble with Game boy emulators. I loved playing Pokemon on my jailbroken iPhone and would really love to enjoy it on my Captivate.

I know that I can write something to take care of this but I was just wondering if there's already something available in android that would give me the date when the application was installed.

If any of you own an uncloaked captivate, and also have a T-mobile phone, and you don't mind testing let me know. I want to confirm my fix, that popping in an active T-mobile sim card with data plan, will allow an unlocked Captivate to get a 3G signal. No software or root required, it is actually very easy. If you are willing to volunteer, let me know.

I've had a problem since yesterday that every time I'm on 3G the browser returns an Access Forbidden error. All the other apps work just fine, it's just the browser, and only when I'm not on wifi. I have tried rebooting the phone, clearing the browser data, turning flight mode on and off.

Most of the applications on my phone are stored on the internal storage. I cannot figure out how to access the internal storage to manage these applications. I may need to reset my phone, but I don't want to lose my paid applications.

I dearly dearly miss the the separate call button in my prior phone, that I could access no matter what app or screen I was in. With android, it is huge step backward, where you have to first click the home screen to get to the call button. Please tell me I am overlooking something very simple because I cannot imagine Android missing out such a big part. Or please tell me if there is a better home screen replacement that does exactly what I mentioned above. Will really appreciate any responses.

I just got my Captivate this past weekend and love it so far. I came over from the HTC Aria so I am a little Android savvy. Question is this. I put a 2GB SD card in my Captivate and want to set one of the songs on it as a ringtone. I would also like for the external SD to be the default location for pictures when I take them. Thirdly, I want to access the external SD card when I connect my phone to the PC via the USB cable, but for the life of me, these 3 issues I cant seem to resolve and they were cake on the HTC.

So I got my Captivate this weekend, and have been using it on my WiFi at the apartment and everything is working fine. But today I went to work, and now any webpage I try to access just shows up as a blank white page with the words "Access Forbidden". Other apps work just fine, I just can't visit any webpages. I'm definitely connected to 3G, with a strong signal strength. I read in one thread that clearing APN proxy settings solved this problem for them, but I can't find any way to edit the APN settings on my phone (can only view them). I read another thread that this happens to people who switch over from an IPhone; only problem is, I've never owned an IPhone. I'm contemplating giving AT&T customer support a call, but wanted to check here first to see if anyone else is having this problem/has a fix. Here are my APN settings in case this clears anything up:
Name: ATT WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: None
APN type: internet + mms
These are the default phone settings and it won't let me change any of them, although it will let me create a new APN and edit the settings of that. It seems odd that the default APN is Cingular...that is the service I had years ago, but it merged with AT&T a while back.

I foolishly installed google voice on my Captivate before listening to all my AT&T voice mails. After I did this I realized that I had a bunch of voice mails on AT&T voice mail, and now I can't figure out how to get to the AT&T voice mails.Any suggestions? Do I need to de-activate google voice on my voice mail then get the AT&T messages, then re-activate the google voice on my voice mail?

I tried everything and I'm beside myself. I dropped my phone off the second level of a local mall....it is (was) a Samsung Captivate. I was leaning over the rail to yell down to someone and the phone fell out of my pocket.
The screen is black....the buttons on the bottom light up and function. but I can't see a thing.
I need to get a video off the phone of my son, it was one of those moments that I was so glad I caught on video. I have to get it!! I"m sending the phone to DR.PHONEZ to get repaired but I scared that this video will be lost. So
I tried BitPim but the phone isn't supported. IT is recognized by my pc but I can't access the files I need.
two REMOVABLE drives show up in "MY COMPUTER" but when I click them it says "please insert disk"
Not sure what to do here, I checked all over the web.

I'm a big fan of just having direct access to my devices (i.e., no sync, no "management" front end). So this isn't about local access from the device (using MyFiles or Astro), but from a PC in the same location (so not like 3G remote). So far I've explored these options: USB Connect phone, mount from notification menu, and there you go. Bluetooth Pair phone, use "send file" from PC BT app (running in system tray).
Files drop into a 'bluetooth' directory, ready to move/use. Android Web OS Very beta-esque right now, but runs as a service on the phone, then you can access the filesystem (and SMS, eventually other functions). You can copy up to the phone or download (basically via a simple web mechanism). Use across Another service on the phone, a basic FTP server accessible across WiFi.
Works pretty good so far, I created a 'network location' in Windows, then a shortcut on my desktop into my MP3 directory on /sd. So I just open that folder, copy over MP3s. Doesn't matter where the phone is currently sitting or connected. For the services type options, I'm going to check out something like Locale or Tasker, when I can trigger the service to fire up based on a rule (a specific WiFi network trigger would be outstanding).

I was installing some apps from the market last night and all was going well until one application got stuck. The Market shows it as installing but nothing is happening. The Market still seems to function to load other apps but I have tried pulling the battery, cleaning the cache etc and no matter what I do when I go back to the downloads page the install on this app is still in progress. The Captivate is not rooted and I am not really keen on a hard reset as I have lots of apps and data. Any ideas from you pros out there?

I have rooted my phone using 1 click lag fix. everything is working fine.
I went to install the droid x Eye wallpaper - I transferred to my SD, then tried to install using Astro File Manager.. I get the popup stating that "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in the Android Market".
Is this because Astro is not using super user privileges?
