Samsung Captivate : Way To Manually Install Apps?
Sep 30, 2010I have read that to install apps manually I need to go to menu-applications and check unknown sources. I don't see that as an option in JH7 so am I missing something? Also, just to review. I can get any APK that will work on my phone, copy it over, double click on it and thats it?

Jul 21, 2010I'm new to Android. I recently was an iPhone fan but thought that Android was a better alternative to iPhone. So anyway, I have a few questions about the Captivate. Does Android have support for apps that you can use to password protect certain apps on the phone? Like messages, and photos for more private stuff. Another question I have: is the Captivates reception really bad? I currently have the iPhone 4 while it doesn't have the best of signal, its not too bad either. And my last question is if the captivate has support for 32gb cards. I'm sorry if someones already gone over these but I could find anything right away. Anyways, I look forward to Android and the Captivate.

Sep 26, 2010I'm running win xp and my captivate has the new update stock. Not rooted. I have tried many times with many different drivers. uninstall them all and tried again with no luck. In the device manager next to the S3C6410 Android ADB there is always a yellow " ! ". I loaded kies.uninstall it then install the newest one. Also installed the sdk. Still no adb driver will load. . wtf. mass storge works. Just not the adb. It's driving me nuts.

Oct 20, 2010I was installing some apps from the market last night and all was going well until one application got stuck. The Market shows it as installing but nothing is happening. The Market still seems to function to load other apps but I have tried pulling the battery, cleaning the cache etc and no matter what I do when I go back to the downloads page the install on this app is still in progress. I went to install the droid x Eye wallpaper - I transferred to my SD, then tried to install using Astro File Manager.. I get the popup stating that "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in the Android Market".
Is this because Astro is not using super user privileges?

I removed the battery and restarted and flashed the factory ATT ROM and that worked fine. Why this is just hanging up on install. Seems everyone else who's downloaded it had no trouble. I've tried the file direct from design gears and also the mirror on multiupload.

How to Install ClockWork Recovery:
1. On the menu there should be an option labeled �FLASH CLOCKWORK RECOVERY.�
Press it.
2. Once a popup says that it has been succesful press �BACKUP CURRENT ROM�
3. Your phone will now restart and backup your ROM
4. If your phone does not start backing up and instead boots into a blue menu use the volume
keys to select reboot now and then press the power button. Try to do all the steps again.
5. Wait for it to finish and then it should restart.
Is this considered a Nandroid backup? Is there anything else I need to do as far as backups or is this the best method?
This will allow me to go back to my stock Rom at any point , is that correct?
Then I should use Titanium Backup for data/apps/settings?

When I did the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" step no update.zip file was created in the internal SD root. Buried in the clockwork mod folder is recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-captivate.zip, do I move this and rename it?

Oct 8, 2010I have a Captivate I was running with out of the box software. I installed a profile timer to control sound (mainly because of the "fully charged" notification going off of a night). Since I installed it, I have not been able to get my phone out of Silent Mode. If I long-press power to get the Phone Options menu and Silent Mode is enabled, then I disable it, I get the Silent Mode icon in the notification bar and Silent Mode in Settings is checked, but shows as "Off" in Phone Options. If I turn off Silent Mode in Settings, then it shows as off in Settings, but "On" in Phone Options.
Because of this, the phone is always silent. I did a hard reset, but that did not straighten it out. I've also tried a couple of different widgets to force it to ring or vibrate, but I'd like to actually get the problem resolved. I even did the upgrade to Froyo 2.2 to see if that would fix it, assuming a whole new firmware would straighten it out. It worked until I restarted the phone, but then went back to the out of sync Silent Mode settings.Does anyone have any suggestions?Thanks, Mark
