Should I exchange the phone if my gps is not working properly, or is it a known issue and we are awaiting a software fix. I also cannot get kies to install. What should I do?

I am unable to install the USB drivers for Windows XP - I have downloaded the correct zip file, but the drivers are marked as being detrimental to Windows XP somehow and they just won't install. Can I copy them out of the zip file and manually put them somewhere? I'm inching ever so slowly towards rooting and am trying to get my ducks in line - but they're not cooperating.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy wife recently got a SGS and we have just tried to download Kies so that she can put some music etc on it (she has a 16GB microsd card in it). However, when we try and install Kies it gets to the installation phase and then at the stage where it prompts you what to install, I selected "instal all" and then it thinks about it and comes back a minute later with a message "unable to connect to file server".Is this a common problem people have had? We are running Windows 7 64 bit, so I dont know if there is a compatability issue? If we cant get Kies to download (and I called their support line and of course no-one answers) is there another way to get data onto the phone and external card? Will I need to buy some kind of adaptor so that I can connect the microsd card and just treat it as any external hard drive?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect my Galaxy to the computer either through Kies or by just plugging it in the computer does not recognize my device. The following message comes up on my phone regardless of which connection method I choose. "PC connection available only on idle screen. Close running applications". The only thing I have running that I know of is the "weather widget" which is part of beautiful widgets. Can I get a list of applications running on my phone somehow? Is there a way to turn the weather widget off? I am assumming that that is the problem. Anyone else out there have similar difficulties hooking up to Kiev or just your PC with the same kind of message?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had kies on my computer for about two months. My phone connected fine and I could save messages and contacts. But now after this kies update I just sits there and says "Connecting the device... Please wait" This is rather annoying. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, persists to do the same thing. I tried clicking some buttons. It says something about you can't do blah blahh when there is a firmware update. I didn't hit the firmware update button so it shouldn't be downloading and update.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if there have been numerous posts about this but i couldnt find one with my specific problem.I tried connecting my galaxy s to Kies for the first time ever. I just installed Kies but whenever i connect my phone Kies tells me "This Device Is Not Supported By Kies" I've restarted my Phone and Computer. I've tried running it in USB Debugging mode and got nothing. Its extremely frustrating.if you have any questions about my problem feel free to ask and I'll gladly answer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDay 2, now everytime I try and connect the MTP Application screen pops up, then crashes, then pops up again, then crashes, and continues to do so until I unplug. Has anyone else experienced this and fixed it?
Changing the USB setting to anything else, such as Mass Storage, works fine.
I've tried on Windows 7 and WinXP with the same result. Drivers are already on the computer from the first time.
I tried getting Kies to install the Froyo update on my Galaxy S (i live in the UK) using the registry hack that has been widely published. It didn't work and I ended up witha slightly newer version of 2.1 than I already had. Phone seemed to work fine, until I put my SIM card back in. It immediately restarted itself as soon as I tried to use 3G.
I went through all the settings, everything seemed to be the same as it was before the flash, but still it restarted everytime I connected to the 3G network.
Sooo, I decided to try and restore it to the previous firmware version again by changing the KIES regisrty values. Everything seemed to go well, phone downloaded the correct version, installed it fine etc and then KIES notified me that the firmware upgrade was succesful and the phone will now reboot.
Only it didnt.
It turned off and hasn't turned back on since
It doesn't get recognised when plugged into USB, it doesn't even show a charging logo when plugged into the mains. It does get VERY warm when I leave the battery in for 10 minutes or so though.
I've tried all the three button combos posted around, I've taken the battery out and in and out and in etc etc... nothing. It's a shiny 9mm thick brick now
I decided to try Kies again. I set it up and hard set my USB connection on the phone to Samsung Kies. I plugged in my phone and didn't even get the notification from Windows that a USB device was plugged in.I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in, this time watching the phone. A very quick message popped up on the phone that said"PC connection available only in idle screen.Close running applications."I checked TasKiller and there wasn't anything running.I scratched my head for a minute and then on a hunch used Home Switcher to change my default and running home screen to TouchWiz. I plugged/unplugged my phone and it worked! It said "MTP application", gave the USB symbol and connected.I then switched my home screen/Launcher to LauncherPro and tried it. It failed like ADW did with the same error! I'm not sure what gives there, but it's something you may want to investigate if you're having trouble using an MTP application like Samsung Kies.

For example, everytime I connect the phone it does it automatically. My previous phone was a Samsung i8910 with symbian OS and everytime I have my laptop on, the phone synchronizes everything with outlook over bluetooth. I was really hoping for a way to get this feature somehow on my Captivate.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor those still struggling with this, or those just getting this phone and encountering issues, I have a solution for you (that I have not seen posted thus far, and with 90% less black magic - just average, everyday Office blood, sweat, and tears).
If you are just trying to get your contacts, and you can't get Kies to work, try this:
Go to your contacts in Outlook, then selects the contacts you want (ctrl+click if you just want certain ones, shift+click to mass selects, etc), then right click and go to "send full contact" and then "in internet format", and then send the email to yourself. Go to the email, save the contacts you wanted someplace you can find them.
After this, make sure your Captivate is either in "Mass Storage" connect mode or in "ask me" mode. Plug your phone in with the USB and open up the phone in explorer. In another window go to where you saved all those .vcf files and then copy them all to your phone.
Unplug your phone when you are done, then go to your contacts app. Open the menu->more->import/export->import from sd card->phone-> and then whichever option you want (I'd go with all).
Spent 5+ hours trying all the different suggestions (and every different permutation of settings and procedures I could derive from the various programs and dark rituals suggested) before I finally figured this one out. Hope this helps others - it preserved my contacts, pictures I had assigned them, phone numbers, birthdays, etc, without manually entering them for a day or two, or being forced to sync them with gmail (preventing me from giving them custom ringtones...) and saving me any more headaches with 3rd party programs or Kies or any other ridiculous witchcraft.

Kies now just sits there saying Connecting to device, but will not connect.I have tried this several times and cannot get it to connect. Even tried restarting the phone and my computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been doing a bit of research, and it seems that Samsung Kies is not meant for (or supported) for North America. Apparently, the older versions of Kies could work on our Captivates and was available to download through Samsung's Europe site. However, the newer versions of Samsung Kies can apparently detect that we've got North American Captivates and will not connect. Anybody have links to the older versions? Doesn't proprietary-ness totally defeat the reason we bought androids in the first place?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and this is already the second time I'm having a problem with the phone being recognized over USB. I have all the drivers installed. Is there some fix for this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedUp until today I've had my phone syncing with Google (Contacts and Calendar). Through a bit of searching and work, I've now finally got Kies installed and I want to have my Captivate sync only with Outlook. The problem I see at this point is that if I sync now, I'm basically going to have everything duplicated in my phone. I simply want to remove the Gmail account and all my existing contacts, calendar entries, etc.
When I go into Accounts & Sync, if I attempt to remove gmail, it states that some programs are using this and I'll have to do a factory restore to remove it. This would apparently remove all my downloaded software which I definitely don't want to do. The phone is rooted and enabled for side loading along with all of AT&T's bloatware blown out. Is there another option that I might be missing to remove this? I really want to use Kies and stop using gmail to sync.
Having waited for FROYO for a while now I was really pleased that Kies had an update which I think includes the Froyo update. I downloaded the update but my phone is not showing as connected in Kies mode. If I attach the phone in mass storage mode it is recognised!Having only just switched from iPhone to Android I cannot believe how shyte Samsung/T-Mobile have been with the software for such a great piece of hardware.I have tried rebooting laptop and phone as well as reinstalling Kies.

However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a samsung galaxy young s6312, stock android 4.1.2 jellybean, non rooted. I am unable to connect it with kies, however hard I try. Kies shows the dialog box "reconnect the phone in samsung kies (pc studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by kies" Usb debugging is disabled. I tried rebooting my phone. I also tried rebooting my pc. I tried reinstalling kies, but nothing worked. I have never been able to connect it with kies.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to apply the update in the system recovery screen i go to apply sdcard:update.zip and push the home capacitive button. It brings up a progress bar and about halfway through it gives me an error. Im assuming I accidentily deleted this BuddiesNow file after I rooted the phone. I tried hard reset and factory reset but neither of these fixed it. Is there a way to download or install this BuddiesNow.odex? I didn't back up the file.

After reading in this forum and the Italian HD forum I successfully flashed the firmware(to H8 cause you people said the II5 is buggy) and rooted my phone. I want to install the USB drivers but I have a problem: I've already seen the guide that kam made but when i try to install the ADP driver I get this message(after it recognizes its a ADP driver but not recognize galaxy): I think this pictures will explain better than words. What happened when i install the driver: This is how my device manager looks AFTER i installed(unsuccessfully) the driver: this is how the driver looks: I use windows XP if somebody is confused. You can see in the "details" that my phone is VID_04E8&PID_6640&MI_04 So that is not the problem. UPDATE: I managed to solve my problem with this file.
Everything was OK yesterday but now I.can't send SMS! Any settings I can change to fix this?
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhenever i add a rom manually and then open up an emulator and click on that rom it just closes back to my homescreen. ive seen several vids on how to do so but it doesn't seem to work. i added a folder on my internal sd card placed roms there and no go. i was able easily add roms on my iphone but still no luck on my captivate.
View 7 Replies View RelatedBasically, something happened, my phone's battery died, and as usual,I just switched in a new battery, turned it on, it went to the splash screen, the glowing S.and then turned off.I tried to charge the phone, that didn't work.I thought the battery might just be dead, so I charged it over night, but nope.After I put a battery in, it does it's usual swoooshhh noise, turns on, S glows, then turns off.Then it won't turn on again until I take out the battery, put it back in, after which I turn on and the same thing again. Just for more information, the screen sticks on the glowing S for a reallllyyy long time, and it doesn't go through the "Turning off" animation anymore either. What's weird is I didn't even do anything at all with it this past week, other than play Angry Birds, call/text some people, and use the alarm on it.No idea what went wrong at all.

What do I have to do to fix this? It keeps happening and I can't do what I want on my phone. Do I need to install a program to fix it? Or do the odin ROM load to stock and reroot it?
for the past 2 weeks, everytime i go to the market to upgrade my apps, it doesn't upgrade. it says the app is "starting download" but nothing...also, the notification bar is showing that anything is being downloaded.i also cant download any apps from the market as well...
