HTC EVO 4G :: Making VOIP Calls?
Jun 16, 2010I have heard about using SIP with Fring, Sipdroid, Google Voice. Would anyone be willing to give a step by step of how they made VOIP work on this incredible machine.

View 6 RepliesIs there anyway to make VoIP calls or Skype Out calls on the EVO? I am switching from the iPhone 3GS and am going out of the country on vacation in a month and I got used to making Skype Out calls over WiFi when out of the country.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Google Voice number local to my area code that forward to my pbxes.org account, which in turn takes the call and sends it to my phone via the SipDroid app. I can make incoming/outgoing calls all day long for free, but have a problem with call quality.
I have linked two voicemail files. I placed a call from SipDroid out to the same number in both cases, but one was done over WiFi and the other over 3G (2-3 bars, average signal). The WiFi one is acceptable, but the 3G one is not. Listen for yourself (For the message, I read one of the opening paragraphs from the US Declaration of Independence, same on both so you can compare accurately.)
Setup: Google Voice number -> pbxes.org -> SipDroid app
Wifi VOIP Voicemail: [URL] ....
3G VOIP Voicemail: [URL] .....
I am wanting to use my Google Voice number for work, as my off-hours support phone, so I do not accrue charges on my personal cell plan (not covered by employer, and they do not provide work mobile phones). So, since I am usually on the go, I will not be connected to WiFi, thus I need a reliable VOIP option that will get acceptable call quality over 3G. There are multiple options out there, and I do not have a problem with a monthly fee, but they all come with caveats. For example, if I got an "Online Number" from Skype, and just forwarded my Google Voice number to that, it would work through the Skype app, no SIP app needed; however, the Skype voicemail cannot be disabled, so I can no longer use the Google Voice app to easily see my support calls/messages from my home screen. I have use the Skype app (or website) to listen to voicemails. Skype would solve my quality problem (based on reviews of other users that use it over 3G), but introduce the new voicemail issue. The setup I have now (GV->pbxes->SipDroid) allows me to use the GV voicemail, but quality is lacking...catch 22. Is there a better more reliable solution out there for VOIP on Android?
There's also the Google Callback app, that I have been trying to avoid at all costs, since it is kind of hotkey, and I tried the GrooVe IP app, but it has a lot of echo for the person I am calling, and no setting change could fix it.
I will be updating my phone from the DroidX (3G only) to the Bionic (4G). If you think that will make a difference, and make all my concerns moot, then just say so, and that's what I'll do.
So I'm a little confused about Skype on Android. As I understand it, it's not really running Skype at all, it's just a fancy way to call their local Skype number, which you can actually do on any cell phone, right? So you still use minutes. If you make long-distance calls, you'll also use credits. If you make local-calls, I assume you don't? And do you use credit if you make Skype-to-Skype calls? What if someone Skypes you -- do you still use credit? Second, can Fring really do real voip Skype calls? Just using my wifi and no minutes? Can I see all my Skype contacts? Can they see me?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have nimbuzz on my milestone 2.1. I am trying to make VOIP calls on my skype account through nibuzz. When using wifi it works great. When using 3g I have a weird prob.
I can receive calls fine but I when I call someone I can't hear the person answering and he/she can't hear me. It won't work even with echo sound test. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen. I tried uninstalling and re installing and all that so.
I just can't figure this out. All I need to do is be able to make calls to other cells and landline phones over my wifi connection using my incredible ( i don't get cell service at home). No international calls. I have sip set up and fring. I can dial out on my dinc and i will hear ringing but but that is it. No one picks up. I have called my home phone and it doesn't ring.

And ironically, we decided to drop our land line last month. Now its like I've been plunged back into the 90's dialup days of can't be on the phone and Internet at the same time!
i just got new nexus 5 the issue is that when some one calls me , i can only hear the ringtone . and nothing displayes on the screen no caller id nor number just home page screen gets displayed and the ringtone can be heard
same way when i make a call the blank screen appears and nothing gets displayed on the screen..
I've had my phone a few days and have noticed a crackling when making regular calls at anything above around 65% volume. This seems to happen only on louder parts of speech. It's pretty frustrating when I'm in public and need the volume louder.

View 11 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days now when I make a call it has a delay in making the connection, like 10 seconds, never had this issue before, the only program I have installed lately was the GPS for golf and of course the latest updates on the existing programs I have. I have rebooted many times since and still have the issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got my Magic today (Rogers) and things went pretty smoothly. Phone unlocked fine, AT&T's APN entered correctly, web browsing is good, Exchange is up and running, etc. But, I am having a problem dialing outbound calls, it is only working intermittently. I'm in a known good service area (5 bars) and have strong signal. Half the time I try to make an outbound call, it fails after about 5 seconds of just sitting there and saying "dialing" - it just craps-out and I get the fast busy signal and a "called failed" message. I try again - same thing. Every once and a while it will go through - and then the cycle happens all over again. This isn't happening in any of my other devices. Could there be a setting in the "phone" area that I have to tweak or something? Obviously a phone that doesn't make calls consistently is no good to me!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have turned off all vibrations on my phone because I can not stand them. The only ones I can not figure out is when making a call. When dialing numbers, it has the haptic feedback for each number, and when you press send it vibrates for an outgoing call. Any one know how to turn these off?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm at work (I'm in the Army), and someone who recently got a Droid was asking about not being able to browse the web while in the middle of a phone call. Someone else who had an iPhone said they could do this. But the person with the Droid tested it, made a phone call and was not able to bring the browser up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAny way to use the Droid to make calls over WiFi as opposed to the VZW network? I have terrible coverage at my house, and would like to just use my WiFi connection. I would need to be able to go over WiFi but still be considered a Verizon Wireless call, as I call a lot of people with Verizon and take advantage of the free calling to Verizon customers. I don't see why Verizon wouldn't take advantage of something like this, it would only take strain off of their network if some users are connecting on their WiFi networks.
View 15 Replies View RelatedIs there an app available that allows me to make cheap international calls? So far the only only one ive seen gives you a local access number to dial. But the problem with this is that it uses the inclusive mins from your mobile. Are there any apps that gives cheap rates and uses 3g/WiFi to make the calls?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I make a phone call my droids screen turns off. Then when I angle it a certain way it turns back on. Is this a feature to save battery life or do I have a problem ? Either way its very annoying when I need to use the keypad during a call.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I make a call, or sometime when someone calls me, I have to put the phone on speaker in order to hear the other end. Apparently, whoever is on the other end can still hear me before I do this, but it is pretty much happening all the time now. Has anyone else experienced this? I googled and looked for some kind of setting, but I have not found a solution yet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedGizmo5/GV/Sipdroid calls were working fine yesterday over both WiFi and 3g but today for some reason whenever I make an outbound call through my N1 it dials but I hear nothing and sipdroid hangs up after 22 seconds. Inbound calls are fine and when I initiate calls to phone #'s through Google Voice on my computer it comes through on my N1 where I can pick up fine and I can hear it. Complete opposite though when making outbound calls - no sound/hangup at 22 seconds.

When trying to make a phone call nothing happens for about a minute then a message pops up saying network busy try again later. It happens overtime I am in this area of about 90 miles!
I have full 3g bars.
Under -80 db signal
Can receive phone calls fine.
Can use the internet fine.
Tried reboot.
Tried prl update.
Tried factory reset.
Tried downgrading to stock 2.1
Had Verizon send me a new phone. fixed the issue for about a week then came back.
Verizon has not heard of this problem.
Other Verizon people even with an incredible doesn't have this problem.
Seems to be getting worse. It used to only happen in the Toledo Ohio area. Now it doesn't work for most of the Ohio area.
I've had this annoying problem with dialing a number, placing the phone up to my face and suddenly finding my call being placed on hold as the phone is attempting to dial another number. What's happening, you say? Well, as the phone is being placed up to my ear, my ear is inadvertently touching the keypad of the phone and dialing. I thought the phone was supposed to automatically shut off the screen during a live call so as to prevent accidental dialing, no?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've tried searching this topic for 15 minutes but cannot find anything about it, so I'm sorry if it has been posted before... Anyways, when there is an auxiliary cable, or headphones I'm assuming also, plugged into the phone, I can hear the person who I call/who calls me, but they cannot hear me through the phone. Is this true with everyone's phone? Listening to music and then having someone call me while it is plugged in is very annoying as I have to hang up on them and call back.
