Samsung Captivate :: Leaving On USB Charger All Day
Jul 28, 2010
I have a desk job that I'm pretty much at my desk 90% of the time and was wondering if I have it hooked up to my PC through USB cable and have it fully charged all day, is that okay to do?Meaning I rather siphon off the power from the PC instead of the battery which might conserve it in the long run from not cycling as much. I use to do that with my Iphone 3g and my battery was still good after using it for almost 2 years.I wasn't sure how the power management was handled on the Captivate meaning is it sucking power from the battery and it's constantly recharging or if it sees that it's connected via USB, it powers the phone from the PC or outlet.

I recently picked up my EVO, and am loving it. Does anyone know if there are negative effects to leaving the phone on the charger? At work, I'm primarily in my office, and could leave the phone on the charger during the day and then it would always be full when I leave in the afternoon.

Can anyone point me to a car charger I could use for this phone? I'd prefer a plain old USB charger so that we could use different cables for my wife's iPhone too.
I ordered a few of the cheapos over at monoprice.com and they are a no go. They say charging but are actually draining the batter instead.

I've got a couple of car chargers from an old Motorola RAZR phone. Will they be compatible with my new Captivate? I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't damage my new phone.

So I was reading forums on how to better my Vibrant (hence so many posts by me in the last few days, ). I came across this somewhere online last night and again today on forum.xda-developers.com
Before I apply this on my Vibrant (I'm on page 6 reading user posts) I wanted to know if it's a good idea to leave GPS on at all times?
Does it drain the battery?
Does some other apps post your location on the web (like how facebook 'places' is starting to do now)?

Will virtually any mini-USB based cable, car charger, and wall charger work with my HTC Droid Eris? Mini-USB cables are generally universal, but I want to ensure that I use a compatible car charger and wall charger that won't damage my phone. The official Verizon accessories of course seem overpriced, if any generic solution would work equally well.
For example, I am considering this product on amazon.com: Amazon.com: Home Travel Wall Charger + Rapid Cell Phone Car Charger + USB Data Sync Charge Cable for HTC Touch Pro 2 / Tilt 2 / Hero / Imagio / Pure / Touch Diamond 2 / Droid Eris: Cell Phones & Service. Overall, this mini-USB cable / car charger / wall charger combo gets positive reviews, but I've heard of random glitches for some cheap chargers.

I am using the OEM charger on my Dinc and nothing else. I randomly get a message something like, "The charger you are using is not compatible with your device. Remove the charger now to avoid damage to your phone". I have not used anything other than the OEM charger ever. It isn't loose or frayed or bent strangely. It also seems to charge even though the message pops up. For now, I'm using my computer's USB port to charge it but man, that's SLOOOOOOOOW. It has done it since I first got the phone and before I had even installed my first app. It also does it after a factory reset and reprogram. Customer service is sending an aftermarket wall charger free of charge until I can get an OEM unit as they are obviously out of stock.

I purchased a "generic" wall charger at Best Buy. If it turn the phone off and then plug in the charger the phone turns on and boots up. If I plug the charger in while the phone is on and then turn the phone off, it immediately reboots. It's more of a minor annoyance, just wondering if anyone else has had this experiences. Running 2.1 (joeykrim 2.0.4).

So I ordered a Micro USB cable with a regular USB port on the other side so I could connect and sync my Samsung Moment with my computer, but all it does is charge it. I was under the impression that as long as it gets connected to the computer somehow it would be able to sync up but the computer doesn't recognize me inserting the phone. Is there such thing as a USB cable that just charges and a USB cable that charges AND syncs? And if so, what is it called? So I can look it up on amazon.com

It seems like I have to jiggle any charger just right to get my phone to recognize the charger as plugged in. It never used to do it, but I think I may know what caused it. I was worried when I originally bought the 'Sprint' car charger and tried it for the first time (WAY over priced, but I figured better safe than sorry ). Compared to the included USB and a/c chargers, the Sprint car charger barely fit in the unit, and I mean it took effort to get it plugged in. I thought that was an intended feature, so that the phone didn't accidentally unplug if I picked up the phone while driving (like how the Razor charger used to fall out, if the phone was held sideways)So it seems that the Sprint brand car charger messed stretched the port inside my phone. Now the USB charger and the a/c and the car charger all have to be plugged in 'just right' to charge. I guess I'm going to have to risk swapping out for a phone that may not be in the perfect condition of my current phone Because, although I love it, it's of little use it it doesn't have any power.
In fact, last night before going to bed, I plugged my phone into the USB charger. I set it just right, held my breath, and left it on the desk charging. This morning I woke up to find my phone COMPLETELY DEAD with the USB plugged in... So on my way to school I tried to charge my phone via the car charger, I set it 'just right' but then if I hit a bump in the road the charge would stop, and then maybe restart after the next bump. And god forbid I answered a phone call, because that would disable the charging every time. So right now I have the phone charged at 5% sitting next to me, connected to my computer and intermittently charging via the USB cable. I really DO NOT want to swap out this phone for another Moment because everything else on it works. The GPS is fine, the battery is fine, all of it. And now it's wrecked because I wanted to take the 'safe' route using Sprint's car charger.

Big selling feature for the Moment over the iPhone is swapable batteries. I'd like to keep the phone with me at all times, and just swap in batteries. But I can not find an EXTERNAL battery charger. Google search only turned up a "universal" charger where the contacts are manipulated to match up with the battery. Not a good option. Anyone have a source for an external battery charger which I can use to charge spare batteries without using the phone?

I just bought a car charger/wall charger on ebay from a reputable seller. the car charger works fine but the wall charger locks up the screen whenever its plugged in. Can someone recommend a charger that works with the phone from a seller on ebay. I have the wall charger that comes with the phone I just wanted another one for the office and I don't want to pay the huge markup that sprint puts on them.

Just got the 2.1 update for my Moment. Have a problem. I leave my phone on at night on the charger. I get up way earlier then my wife. Now after the update - my text notification ringer goes off when I plug in and unplug the charger. I tried turning off the "Notification Ringtone" - and that worked to kill the charger plug/unplug sound - but it also turned off the ring when I get an incoming text. That just will not work - turning that on and off all the time. Is there a way to just disable the sound when the charger is plugged/unplugged?

The house charger that came with my phone in the box works perfect. I plug it in and the phone shows charging and then the screen goes out after the 30 seconds I have it set for while its charging.
I bought a Rocketfish charger from BB to have an extra one I can leave downstairs. When I charge the phone with it, after about 5 minutes the screen lights up on my phone and stays lit until I unplug the charger. Then the phone will go back out like it should.
I though there might be a difference so my nephew gave me his home charger he dont need. Its the charger sprint sent him by mistake for his phone. He has the Blackberry and they sent him the micro-usb wall charger. He gave it to me and when I plug my phone in with that charger the screen lights up and never goes out until I unplug the charger. I dont want to mess up the phone and was just wondering if there is still a difference with the chargers even though they are all micro-usb chargers?

Minimal use, but still. Probably about 20 texts and checked email 3 or 4 times. Currently unplugged for 12+ hours and my battery is at 90%!
Let me first say, I'm rooted and running a noobnl's Andromeda custom ROM, bloatware is removed, OmaDRMconfigService.drm removed.
3G and wifi off by using Quick Settings (from market) except when in use.

I'm animating a an ImageView from the right to the left of the screen using a translate animation. The ImageView is place inside a RelativeLayout over the top of my main layout using FrameLayout. When I run the animation on the emulator everything works pretty well but when I use run it on my G1 it leaves visual artifacts behind and effects the rendering of the text component behind it. Is this a performance issue and I'm being too ambitious or is it a bug I can overcome? If it is a performance issue is there anything I can do to improve things?

I'm looking for a app that will turn on the GPS when I leave a location, and will turn it off when I arrive at a location.
Example: I leave the house and the GPS is turned on, I arrive back home and the GPS is turned off.
