Samsung Fascinate :: Battery Charger Knows When Stop Charging?
Oct 8, 2010
so i normally charge my battery with a USB cable while tethered to the computer. So i get this message "Battery Fully Charged, Remove Charger From Phone". QUESTION: Doesnt the phone know when to stop charging or does it just keep on charging? The phone doesnt feel hot but i dont want to fry the battery.

I have my phone plugged in and it will pop up all of a sudden with fully charged, so I unplug it. then, a minute later, it all of a sudden says 50 percent battery. so I plugged it back in. and a minute later it says 100 percent again. then, when I unplugged it, it said 48 percent charged. why is this happeniing? any fixes? this is, by the way, my second phone- the first was classified doa, and replaced. I have only a few days left in my 30 days... eta- on battery info, it now says:

I keep my phone near my head on my bed, since I use it as an alarm clock. Unfortunately the Vibrant is vibrating at the end of the charge cycle, which is distracting when I'm trying to fall asleep!
I can't find a setting to turn this off. I have haptic feedback turned off. I keep the phone in vibrate mode (ringer volume = vibrate).

I love this phone, but I am annoyed that it won't let me use my camera if I have less than 15% left on my battery. Is there anyway to disable this? I appreciate the idea, but if I want to let my battery run out using my camera, then I should be able to do so.

My phone was dying so i charged it. Plug it in, 30 mins past so i went to check on it.
So i looked at it and battery is still red. And i am wonder what the heck. Everything is plug in where it should be.
Low and behold the chord connecting at the mini usb well let's just say the casing is ripping apart and the wire is exposed. I've had this phone for 3 weeks and this happens.
Verizon better give me a new charger. Also i've notice i always get Sense UI force closed and other apps force closed but if i close and start again it works.

My mom has a car charger for her old Motorola Razr and it uses the same mini-USB plug that our phone uses. I was wondering if this would work in charging my Eris or will it just destroy the battery?

My X10 doesn't like charging to 100%, whenever I leave it charging for long periods of time (ex. overnight) the battery will never be at 100%, it will stop at around 95%, then it will stop charging (the icon still shows charging but the battery life slowly goes down). The only way I can get it to 100% is if I unplug the charger for a few seconds, then plug it back in, then it will charge up full.

Love the Vibrant, but the charging using the included charger is unbelievably slow. Does anyone know if an aftermarket charger would allow for faster charges?

Does anyone else's touch screen become unresponsive when the Epic is being charged? My touch screen gets glitchy and only responds to a fraction of touches.
I just received mine yesterday and I've already spent more than 6 hours trying to troubleshoot this issue. Most of the google searches that I've found have to do with cheap 3rd party chargers, but I'm using the OEM Samsung charger.
I thought it might be the charger, so I went out and purchased 4 different chargers today, but none of them fix the issue.
I also ordered another Epic for my wife at the same time, and her Epic has the same problem, which suggests that it's not a defective phone (unless they both came from the same batch).
To confuse things even more, I've been able to isolate 2-3 outlets in the house where this problem doesn't happen. The problem also doesn't happen when I charge at work, through a car charger, or via USB from the laptop.
I'm inclined to think it has something to do with the outlets in the house. However, I've never heard of any issue like that and the house is relatively new (built in '98).

When the phone is charging, the "alarm clock plus" app page comes up. When I try to click out to perform any function, it goes back to that page. I am sometimes able to complete another operation, but usually the phone goes back to the "alarm clock plus" page before I can complete it. Any ideas?

So my wife has a Samsung Fascinate no-rooted and running the official Gingerbread update for a while now. The issue started a few weeks ago. At night she turns the phone off, plugs it into the wall charger to charge overnight, and then the phone turns itself back on. The phone will not stay off while she is trying to charge it. She has had the phone for over a year and this just started happening recently.

Has anyone experienced this? I searched the forums and the common answer was that 3 hours was normal but it takes my phone around 8 hours to charge on both USB and wall charging.
I just got the fascinate a few days ago. Defective battery or handset? I called Verizon and they said that it can't be troubleshot.
I really like the phone but 8 hours is excessive.

Big selling feature for the Moment over the iPhone is swapable batteries. I'd like to keep the phone with me at all times, and just swap in batteries. But I can not find an EXTERNAL battery charger. Google search only turned up a "universal" charger where the contacts are manipulated to match up with the battery. Not a good option. Anyone have a source for an external battery charger which I can use to charge spare batteries without using the phone?

Minimal use, but still. Probably about 20 texts and checked email 3 or 4 times. Currently unplugged for 12+ hours and my battery is at 90%!
Let me first say, I'm rooted and running a noobnl's Andromeda custom ROM, bloatware is removed, OmaDRMconfigService.drm removed.
3G and wifi off by using Quick Settings (from market) except when in use.

I'm loving my fascinate so far except for one really annoying feature (other than bing, of course). Whenever my screen goes off, the phone locks itself, and I'm forced to use the puzzle piece or the unlocked grid. This happens every time the screen auto shuts off, or when I shut it off manually with the power button. Is there a way for a non-root user to delay the autolocking to something like 30 minutes or so? As far as i can tell, there is no setting for it, only the screen timeout setting. Its annoying to keep having to unlock the phone, especially if I am driving. Anyone have any ideas?

I've searched and searched but still cannot find a precise answer. I bought a powerjolt 2.1 amp car charger from amazon, since I've had it I've noticed it takes forever for the phone to charge! (37% to 67% in 2 hours and it was on stand-by the entire time) So after doing some research I found that the phone is charging in usb mode which has a max of 500ma. So my question is, could this be fixed with a different usb cord? Or is there a way to force the phone while charging, to "ac" vs "usb"? I have also tried a friends 1amp belkin charger with the same result. And I have used the stock usb cable and 2 different aftermarket cables. Im clueless at this point! I did just buy a charge only usb cable from amazon.. not sure if that will make a difference or not since it doesn't transfer data.

Prior to getting the Galaxy S, after I read what Samsung were saying in the manual of not to overcharge, I investigated the reasons and wrote in various topics on the battery and the differences between Li-Ion & Li-Pol battery types. At that point with all the evidence found it made sense to believe that what Samsung were saying in not to overcharge was accurate.Basically, at that time it was believed the phone used a Li-Pol, Li-Pol batteries are different in that they are 'wet cell' as opposed to Li-Ion which are 'dry cell' charged.Li-Pol can be manufactured much thinner but can not be manufactured in different shapes. This is to allow the wet cells whilst under charge which become hot to move around the battery freely. If a Li-Pol was manufactured in different shapes like Li-Ion it would create a 'hot-spot' in an area where the wet cell could not move fluidly around the remainder of the battery. However, it has now come to light that this is not the case and that the batteries provided with the phone are indeed Li-Ion.Anyway, moving on to the present.
After now getting the phone and doing a bit of testing I have found the overcharging issue NOT to be an issue. When you commence a charge on the phone the icon changes to a charge state. However, once the battery has reached maximum charge capacity the battery icon automatically changes to a 'Non-Charge' state and then the phone simply runs off it's own battery. This is despite the phone is still connected to the charger. It's just that the charger although still attached is no longer charging the battery. As soon as the battery falls below a certain figure (I've had different figures ranging from 98% right down to 91% which is probably due to whatever the phone is doing at that particular time to wake the phone up from realizing "hey, you are still attached to a charger, now wake up and start charging again").

I've had the captivate for about a week now and I haven't noticed much improvement on the battery life. I have discharged/recharged the battery a few times and nothing much has changed. The main issue is that overnight, the phone will go from 100% charge to 75/80% charge. I only have wifi on; bluetooth, gps, sync are all off. I also kill all applications except for a battery status notifier and the sms application.I have noticed, though, that when I sometimes open the task manager I find applications that are open, which I have never touched (ex. music player, video player). Could this be the problem and how would I fix this.Any help is appreciated cause at this point I have trouble making it through one whole day with the phone.

To all those who have battery issues.... How long do you charge your battery for? Check this out:
Saturday night -> Sunday - charged phone for 7 hours
Sunday - about 18-19 hrs of battery life - moderate usage
Charged from 6pm sunday night to 4am monday - (10 hours on charger)
Monday -> Tuesday - 38 hours of battery life - moderate usage
Charged tuesday from 1030pm to 4am wednesday (6 hours on charger
Tuesday - 16 hours of battery life - moderate usage.
BOTTOM LINE: I think the phone says it is charged way before it actually is full. Let me know if anyone else is having the same issues....

So coming from a BB and iPhone I never had to worry about leaving my phone on the charger all night. This being said I would like to do the same with my cappy but I am afraid that I will destroy the battery. Do you guys leave your phone on the charger over night? The only reason I am concerned about this is because the stupid phone actually tells me to unplug it when it is charged. This leads me to believe that it will over charge the battery if I leave it on...

Ever since I got my Captivate, I've been charging the battery on and off, here and there, never completely, an hour or so at a time, whenever I noticed it running out. Then I read the manual, and it says there that the battery should be "completely" charged for 4 hours before first use.
Have I caused any damage to the battery? I thought with modern batteries we don't have such restrictions and problems as we did with the old batteries (battery memory, discharging once a month, etc).

So I normally use the HTC wall charger but left it at home and grabbed a Plantronics wall charger that came w/ my bluetooth. It's micro usb and everything, 5.0v output, etc. I plug it in, and the battery goes from red to green w/ a lightning bolt, but the green is moving to simulate charging. and a pop-up keeps telling me i'm at 12%. So, will other chargers not work on this thing?
