HTC Incredible :: Charger Not Compatible Message Using OEM Charger
Jul 12, 2010
I am using the OEM charger on my Dinc and nothing else. I randomly get a message something like, "The charger you are using is not compatible with your device. Remove the charger now to avoid damage to your phone". I have not used anything other than the OEM charger ever. It isn't loose or frayed or bent strangely. It also seems to charge even though the message pops up. For now, I'm using my computer's USB port to charge it but man, that's SLOOOOOOOOW. It has done it since I first got the phone and before I had even installed my first app. It also does it after a factory reset and reprogram. Customer service is sending an aftermarket wall charger free of charge until I can get an OEM unit as they are obviously out of stock.

I have plugged my blackberry charger and my car charger into my Dinc and received a message that said, "The charger you have plugged in is not compatible with the phone. Please unplug it before it ruins your phone", that's not word for word but you get the idea. I had my phone on the stock charger the one that came with the phone on the phone over night and I got up this morning and and it said the same thing that my charger was incompatible and could ruin my phone. Is this a bug in the phone and has anyone else experienced this?

Is the palm pre charger compatible with the evo? I forgot my charger at work and the only charger that I have at home is for the palm pre. The plug fits in the evo and light turns on when charging so it should work right?

That`s a indication that the charger is not compatible. Don`t use other charger when charging because it is not safe. Charging from a charger that is not compatible to your phone can cause danger or harm to you and to your phone. There is a possibility that it will overcharged or battery will explode.

I lost my fake HTC Hero car charger and am considering getting a new one. My question is do unofficial chargers affect the overall battery life? Are genuine ones actually worth getting given the difference in price? I feel like in the 3 months I've had my phone the battery life has gone really bad but it could be because I have used it as a satnav a lot and had it plugged into my car even maybe when it didn't need charging.

I was wondering if this car charger would work with the Moto Droid. I know the Moto Droid has a Micro USB, and it says mini usb. If anything I might just buy a adapter for Mini to Micro. Anyone have any idea? Thanks all!

Can I use my Blackberry charger on my Eris? My chargers are next to each other and I accidentally plugged it in the other day. It fit and the Eris's battery indicator showed that it was charging. I immediately unplugged it for fear of doing it harm. Are they compatible from a power perspective?

Will virtually any mini-USB based cable, car charger, and wall charger work with my HTC Droid Eris? Mini-USB cables are generally universal, but I want to ensure that I use a compatible car charger and wall charger that won't damage my phone. The official Verizon accessories of course seem overpriced, if any generic solution would work equally well.
For example, I am considering this product on amazon.com: Amazon.com: Home Travel Wall Charger + Rapid Cell Phone Car Charger + USB Data Sync Charge Cable for HTC Touch Pro 2 / Tilt 2 / Hero / Imagio / Pure / Touch Diamond 2 / Droid Eris: Cell Phones & Service. Overall, this mini-USB cable / car charger / wall charger combo gets positive reviews, but I've heard of random glitches for some cheap chargers.

Is there any way to have the screen ON, but NOT receive this message? For those of us who use the Epic in a dock as a bedside alarm clock at night, this message is a major PITA. I know it can be suppressed with the screen off, but I need to suppress it with the screen ON. When I roll over at 3AM, I need to know what time it is, not that my battery is fully charged!!

I noticed that my BB Storm charger and car charger work on the Incredible. Is this ok? I did a search on here and read that people are using it on their Eris. Would it be safe to say its ok to use on the Incredible?

Just sitting here browsing and can feel this heat commin from the left side. It's comming from the base of the charger. The cable is also warm about a 1/4 way up. I'm sure charging and using it comsumes a bit of power. The battery is probably only 25% charged and I'm quite certain in stops charging once full. Maybe its normal but seems excessive to me.

So this weekend was my first real world test using the GPS turn by turn for a long car ride (about an hour). I had everything all set plugged in and started the music player (not Pandora) running in the background while the GPS was displaying on the screen. I also had the bluetooth synced to the car. To my surprise, the battery started to drain. It was pretty slow but after about an hour around 5-10% of the battery drained even while plugged in. Do you think it is my after market car charger from monoprice (For only $1.46 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Motorola V8, V9 Series Car Charger for RAZR2 | Motorola It has been working great in the car for about 2 weeks with Pandora playing and bluetooth.
Anyone else experiencing battery drain while plugged in the car using GPS? I think I read someone having a similar situation but with the Verizon charger. I am also using the stock battery. If not, please let me know which car charger you are using with a link if possible. I can't continue using this one if there is one out there that will keep me charged in the car.

So I normally use the HTC wall charger but left it at home and grabbed a Plantronics wall charger that came w/ my bluetooth. It's micro usb and everything, 5.0v output, etc. I plug it in, and the battery goes from red to green w/ a lightning bolt, but the green is moving to simulate charging. and a pop-up keeps telling me i'm at 12%. So, will other chargers not work on this thing?

Does anyone else have issues with the phone not recognizing the wall charger that comes with the phone? Every now and then mine will stop charging and say my charger isn't compatible. I've tried different outlets thinking that might be it, but it's not making a difference. It works most of the time, but will stop charging in the middle of the night which leaves me with little battery in the morning.

Everytime I plug my INC into the mini USB to charge, I have to unplug and replug several times and jiggle it to get it to charge. It's like it is not recogizing that it's connected. I had this problem with my blackberry a few times, and it ruined it. I had to submit an insurance claim because it couldn't be repaired easily.

I ordered a combo kit from amazon, very cheap. I know some chargers lock up the screen, but this one had a review from someone with an Inc. saying it was fine. Anyway, wall charger locks screen, but shows it is charging, led lights up. Car charger works fine, no screen locking up.
So... am I doing any damage to my phone using wall one? Was thinking I would just use overnight when phone is off. Anyone else using one that locks phone?
I can always just toos wall one, and keep the car one, still great deal for the $4 is spent.

I forgot to bring my Droid Incredible charger with me to work. Since the battery was getting low I decided to use my BlackBerry Storm charger on it. The ports are the same, and it goes in without any problems. However, after doing this, it became difficult to unlock. Swiping down usually didn't work. If I was able to swipe down I couldn't get past the "password puzzle." I thought the phone was locked up so I pulled the battery, but it still wouldn't swipe after coming back up. I took the charger out and realized I could swipe again. I repeated this, again plugging the charger in and again I was unable to swipe to unlock. Is there a voltage difference between the BB charger and the Incredible charger? It seems like it was charging it fine. JuicePlotter shows a charge while it was plugged in.

I only noticed this after I installed the 2.2 update. Now, sometimes when I plug the charger in, the LED blinks amber. It is not just the LED blinking, it is blinking because it charges for a second, then stops, then charges, etc. It does this with the OEM AC charger, and any other charger I use, however, it does not do it all the time, it seems random. When it is doing this, it doesn't actually charge. I turn the phone off, plug the charger in, it's fine, turn the phone back on, still fine. It's somewhat annoying. Anyone experience this or know what's going on? It's definitely not an overheated battery.

At work everyone has an ipod/iphone so we commonly share the same Apple wall charger (I have an ipod.. it was a gift and is soon to be sold). Obviously Apple uses there proprietary charger as far as plugging into the device itself but the wall charger itself just uses a standard USB. My question is, can I connect the Incredible's USB cable to the Apple wall charger and successfully charge the phone without any repercussions? I'd like to avoid having to take my charger to work everyday (not allowed to connect devices to our highly monitored computers).

Is anyone else's wall charger making a high pitched whistling noise when you have it plugged in? If I put the wall charger itself in the outlet without the usb cable inserted, it sounds fine. As soon as I plug the USB cable into it, it starts making the noise.

Two problems:
(1)For some odd reason my Incredible will not charge when the USB adapter is attached to the charger that came with the phone anymore.
(2)As an alternative, I used an DC adapter that accepts a USB. Now, when plugged into my car, there are no problems. However when I attach the DC adapter to an AC/DC adapter that plugs into a normal wall socket, I cannot use the touch screen. Is this an issue w/ the kind of current entering the phone?
