I wanna make it so that I cant be located when my mom uses family maps. How do I go about doing this? All of my gps/locator options are switched off, but she can still track me. I don't want this. I'm 18, she needs cut this crap out.

That Samsung will actually support the Captivate because it is part of the Galaxy S family? It seems to me that this phone will not sell well on ATT, especially now that I've seen so many price drops, but because of the 5 different Galaxy S phones I imagine as a whole these phones will sell and that means good support.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I just spent half an hour drooling - err, browsing - in the AT&T store. I had just about talked myself into an Aria, but I love the size of the Captivate. I was thinking of going to BB and getting them to price match the AT&T store, but my line still has a couple of months to go before it's eligible for an upgrade (because my dad used mine last year ... he swaps phones every 4 months since no one else ever gets a new phone until they're falling apart ... not that I'm bitter). But 2 other lines have upgrades (and the family is okay with me using one of them). The AT&T store was willing to do it that way, but will BB do that too?

Question is, can I switch the renewed contract to another line on my family plan or the only way is to return the phone, cancel the renewal and resign for the 2 years on the second line?

The question is, is it possible to change the primary line from one number to another in a family plan? I Upgraded mine last month. My wife's is coming due in March and you always get a better price/selection if you are the primary line.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi took the captivate on the road and used it as navigation. it worked great for the first 3 hours of the trip, reception or not. i was amazed until i received a notice that my phone internal app memory is low and i need to uninstall my apps. theres no way my memory should be full because i've checked it every few days and i've had 1.6 gb free. all of a sudden i've got 126mb. i'm guessing that Google maps had downloaded the maps in advanced and had just filled up the internal memory. unfortunately i have no clue how to clear the maps. until i can figure this out i cant receive emails, or texts or any messages because the memory is full. does someone know how to clear the old maps from the navigation app? i'm on the road so i havent been able to look at it extensively. i will research it more when i get a chance and post anything i find.

View 26 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed the differences in using the two maps in terms of location accuracy? Specifically with GPS off. I don't expect either app to be extremely accurate in finding my location with GPS off, but what's odd is that Google Maps put's me about .25 miles WNW of my actual location while AT&T Maps put's my location .25 ENE of my actual location. You would think that the operating system determines the location and provides the app of that information, but that doesn't seem to be the case (since the two maps are showing different locations).

So I thought hey... there are lots of wifi networks around where I live I wonder if it would help if I turn my wifi on.
I get an almost instant lock accurate to 50 meters (good enough for navigation). I have tried it over and over and when I turn off wifi, I get an accuracy of 1700 meters. Turn it back on and get accuracy to 50 meters.
It works indoors and out.
I just noticed that for this to work YOU MUST HAVE "USE WIRELESS NETWORKS" CHECKED under location and security then turn on Wifi (you don't have to connect to any networks). My guess is it narrows down your location based on Cell tower triangulation, then uses wifi to narrow it down.

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust got my refurbished Captivate in the mail today, charged and activated it as per the instructions. It worked just fine for about 30 minutes or so. I put on a few apps and showed them off to my roommate, and things were going fine. Then all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive phone calls, nor was I able to get/send text messages. With no pattern or logic I would go from 3g to edge to neither of the two symbols (just full signal strength) to the international no sign where my full bars just were. If I typed and tried to send a text while the no sign was visible it would send and receive texts as soon as I got signal back, but that would only last a few minutes.
I've tried hard and soft resets and restoring the phone to factory settings, all to no avail, as well as checking my message center number. I've looked around in the forums and can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem, and I was hoping someone would have some advice or could point me to a thread that I may have missed. I'd talk to AT&T but chat hours are over and I have to be up early for work tomorrow and need my phone for that, so I'm not sure I can ask customer service tomorrow beforehand.
So I have a song that I like (smooth criminal) and I would like the opening to be my ringtone. I have heard of ringdroid but it doesn't seem to work well on my phone.

Where is the setup of the default email application so I can remove/delete the application? Gmail application - HOW / WHERE can you make it default to show pictures in an email? Not liking all the black setup applications and menus? If I get a different theme does that change all menus and color of default applications like messaging and setup menus/everything?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAnytime I click to add a new event it always defaults to "My Calendar"(phone built in one) as the Calendar it is going to add it too.I have checked my settings and I only have my google calendar checked so it shows all of those events.The "My Calendar" is unchecked too. But it always wants to add it to that one, not google. Any ideas how to change this? Or if not, is there another calendar app you could recommend I use instead of the stock then?This is really annoying that every event I have to change and select Google.I use google calendar for everything, and if I forget once it could cause a lot of problems. Plus, I don't want to think about having to change it manually EVERY EVENT!

1) My ringer, when someone calls me, starts off quiet for a few seconds then goes to full volume. The ringtone I have doesn't do that by itself, it must be a setting. Is there a way to make it ring full volume as soon as someone calls me?
2) Is there a way to make the phone vibrate when receiving a text message either while the phone is on vibrate or on normal volume.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was looking at the Captivate and the iphone4 in store today and when comparing the same web pages in full page view the text on the Captivate was much smaller than the iphone4, even though the iphone screen is smaller. Zoom just made everything bigger so it wasn't in full page anymore. Is there a way to make the text bigger while in full page view? On a side note, that iphone4 screen is super sharp for text and the whites were much whiter vs the blueish tint on the Captivate.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI frequently find myself using the MAPS app (not the navigation) but after a few moments the screen turns off. Is there an easy way to make the screen stay on when I am using maps. Perhaps a "stay on app" or a setting somewhere. This is an issue in the car when I'm using the map and the screen keeps turning off, I know I can manually set the timeout up to 30 minutes but that's a pain and I have to remember to set it back afterwards.
